LEXUS Genuine Dashcam

Once again, another comprehensive video of a feature I was looking for in my NX. Thank you! As I found out, this dash cam is not available in the the USA. I went with the "fitcamx". It took a while to get it from overseas but after it arrived, it took all of 20min for install and setup. The app interface is very similar and records nice videos. Fitcamx is also nice that it looks OEM. Ive always been a believer in having the silent witness of a dashcam. Thanks again for a great informative video!!

Nice video, but for this DASHCAM on my car, I have three issues 1. How to turn it off, because I’m taking my drivers license and no recording is allowed 2. Sometime when I startup the car, the dash cam beeps 8 times. 3. How to record a video without breaks, such as recording 1 hour video as a whole.

I don't think you can turn it off. At most is take out the SD card so it can't record, but I don't know if it will keep on beeping. I think it's ok for the dashcam to record, it's just not allowed to record inside the cabin... you should double check that 2. When it beeps 8 times, it means while the car was stopped, there was some movement / Gforce of the car during that time and it's telling you that the car was shaken (could be you opening and closing the trunk etc...) 3. It is not possible to record without breaks. Most dashcams are done this way as it's easier to download a small part than a whole 32GB file.

@@WYLNXCA Back seat reminder. You open the back door and when you lock the car, you didn't open it again. So it's reminding you that you may have left something in the back.

I had seen this genuine Lexus dashcam since quite some time, but it is not available in France. Hence, I opted for the FitCamX, the "OEM like" one listed at the very end of your video. I confirm that you can install it yourself in 15 minutes very easily. You can't see it from the driver seat, it completely hides behind the mirror. And from the outside, you barely can notice there is a dashcam in the car. For a third of the price, it has basic functions, but still the same as "automatic recording" (with customizable clip duration), "incident recording" (with customizable G force), "interesting event recording". It records in various customizable HD formats on an included 32Gb (or 64Gb) SD card high endurance and it can be monitored on the smartphone via WiFi. There is no laptop app though, and it does not record speed, acceleration nor GPS position, only date and time. The framing is slightly higher, compared with the genuine Lexus cam : you see more of the road, nothing of the dashboard and just the edge of the hood. Parking surveillance and rear cam are optional. In my opinion, and experience since one month, it is a very nice and elegant option if you don't want to spend 600$ and only need a discrete basic dashcam.

The FitcamX is definitely one option and it depends on what you plan to use it for. If it's for recording any incidents or things happening in front of your car, then all of them are good enough. If you need high resolution and knowing the license plate, then the camera quality is important.

I've been running dashcams for as long as I can remember. This time, I opted for the Lexus dashcam instead of Thinkware. Mercedes gave me a hassle blaming the aftermarket install of my dashcam for a rattle that I had even before the install of the dashcam. (which I had documented).

@@lsft I believe the resolution is better on paper with the Thinkware, but it really isn't. Not to my eyes. I did find connecting to the dashcam easier with the Thinkware. I don't know why Lexus didn't engineer a dashcam into the car to begin with...it already has plenty of cameras.

Hi LSFT. Excellent videos, thank you so much. I just got my NX with dashcam. I purchased several 32GB Sandisk high endurance cards and can’t get them to work. Tried formatting to FAT32 and just get error beeps and flashing red light. Of course app doesn’t work on iPhone with latest iOS. Do you have any idea why cards don’t work?

Unfortunately, I am not sure what is wrong. If you look at the manual for what the error code is? is it a high pitch consistent beep or you are getting beeps with the blinking light? If you put back the original sdcard it works?

@@lsft I think I have succeeded. I read somewhere to copy the contents of original card onto new card and now I get no errors and green flashing lights. I have no idea what action is setup. Not sure if a working app helps or I need to read more of owners manual which I just downloaded. Only had vehicle a few days now and I’m overwhelmed with things to figure out. Trying PC software for first time had a lot of Lexus dealership footage before I even got the car but can’t find much in last couple days. Must be how it’s set to record. I’ll figure it out one day. Thank you.

My dealer in Australia offer blackvue over AUD1200 with installation. Not sure which model it is. If it’s blackvue 950x then they have 400 for installation.

For this dash cam version are the ones for toyota and lexus both compatible with each other, like if I bought one used off a 2017 Toyota RAV4 will it be able to fit in my 2008 Lexus RX350?

I am not sure if a 2008 RX350 would have the setup for this dashcam. I would say the Y harness would be different even if it was a 2018 RX. I don't have the info on this, would need to see the installation guide and see if the part is compatible with your car. What is the part number for your dashcam. I can see if I can look it up.

I just had this camera installed on my Lexus RX 350. I am interested in upgrading the 8 Gb SD card to a 32 Gb card as mentioned in the KZbin video. If I do, can I simply install a new card? Or is there a procedure to format the card first? Thank you, ...

You can simply install the new card. If you like you can format it on the computer with FAT32. Not NTFS or other formats.

@@lsft Hello :) The 32 Gb is a Sandisk Ultra HC1 with the n°10 in an open circle. The 8 Gb that was inside is an HC with the n°4 in the same kind of open circle. Thanks !

If it's between the two then FiTCamx has higher resolution, but lacking parking mode unless you buy the fuse connector. Overall, I would pick the FiTCamX as it's overall better and lower cost.

Can you remove 'speed' from recording's date stamp info

By default, the videos you export, you do not need to put the data in the recording. You can opt to not add speed to the videos and keep the date time etc.... hope this helps

uninstall it? I have not tried and do not know if it's easy to uninstall. I assume you just pull the wires and find the plug to unplug in behind the glove compartment.

@@lsft I am just discovering this new "integrated" version; a bit disappointing that Lexus still don't offer one that is really integrated into the mirror cover, that would be more discrete and elegant than a cam in a separate cover... Personally, I am pleased with the FitCamX that corresponds to these criteria, but disappointed that I had to go shopping this accessory in China instead of procuring a similar one from Lexus, with a higher quality, most probably.

Not worth it. I like the ones (“back in the days”) that you can just plug into the 12V socket. Easy removal and no need to rip off trim pieces.

Yes. They have released a newer version with the TX. Most ppl will choose another dashcam.
