Look on instagram. There are plenty of us who are throwing our Lexus's off road. They're extremely capable and the industry's best kept secret. The GX and LX are more affordable than the Landcruiser.

They are a pretty good value pre-owned considering they come standard with 4x4 and a flat plane V8. Not to mention 200k to 300k miles of life. You can also get after market bolt on parts marketed for other Toyota vehicles such as wheels and suspension.

Correction: Nissan Patrol is no longer on the European market (for several years now). Prado's competitors are Nissan Pathfinder and Mitsubishi Pajero!

You can buy the controls and ECU for the MTS and crawl control and retrofit it to any GX460 by the way, including the pre-facelift 2010-2013 models.

Awesome rig. My 2012 LEXI with a 3" lift on 33's performs great. I've done Bulldog Canyon in Phoenix and all of Broken Arrow trail in Sedona. I plan on taking her to Colorado later this year to do Imogene and Black Bear Pass. 🤞

Impressive for a late model rig. You did a video on the V-8 series 80 conversion but nothing to put it to work that I've found. I recently purchased a 97 Land Cruiser with locking differentials and leaning towards a LQ-9 with 6L80E transplant. I see lots of videos from Australia but would like to see you guys find a modified series 80 and put it to work. I'm working overseas so I won't be able to make the engine swap for sometime to come but also considering the stock 4.5L reworked with a turbo system. I do need to reseal the engine as it leaks a bit of oil. Standard stuff, go through the diffs, t case etc and rebuild those units. Tough hardware for sure, just want to rejuvenate things after 180,000 road miles.

It has a different engine. Previous 4Runner had a 4.7 iron block V8 (2UZ-FE), whether this one has aluminium 4.6 V8 (1UR-FE)

It does indeed. I had an '03 V8 4Runner until October of last year. When it came time to replace it, I test drove the 2015/2016 4Runner 3 times. I just couldn't like the V6 engine -- not enough low-end torque and too thrashy at the top-end where it made power. I drove the GX460 three times, but I found the seats to be uncomfortable. I also didn't like that front-end and the side-hinged rear door. Then I found a 2-year-old, CPO 200-Series Land Cruiser at that same dealer. One test drive and I was sold.

.... not just Europe concerning the Prado nameplate. Every other world market gets it as the Land Cruiser Prado and other bigger one is usually called the Land Cruiser V8. Then let's not forget the Land Cruiser 70 Series which is still in production and is a direct competitor for a Mercedes G Wagon and the now discontinued (but still available) Land Rover Defender.

I didn't realize that the GX460 was different from the LX570. I thought the GX was the LX with a different motor. I know the name Prado as a legendary off-roader from overseas (I live in the US)

You can take LOCKERS out of a 2010 FJ (newer) and put thosse in the GX-- they're a DIRECT BOLT IN.. (I will do that with whatever I get.. )

My LX450 with factory lockers (and other assorted aftermarket goodies including Slee) really leave many to scratch their heads. Couple of guys have thought I somehow grafted the L emblem onto the grill. '97 was the last of the true Land Cruisers that the US got. Sad times.

This just makes a buying decision harder. Because he didn't start with the vehicle most people would start with if they were more interested in off-road prowess meaning the air suspension vehicle. For all the money he put into it he has basically matched what a Land Rover has for ground clearance stock... I don't know it's just confusing!

Fortuner is based on the Hilux underbody with same engine and transmission options. Mostly sold in SE Asia, Oz, NZ, southern Africa and Russia. Prado is part of the Land Cruiser range and has a bespoke chassis. Sold mostly everywhere. Generally considerably more expensive to buy than a Fortuner (and more expensively engineered to match).

I know the previous gx was identical to the prado apart from bumpers and engine. I think there's a whole lot of overlap between all these things though; there's no point in reinventing the wheel. Prado, fj, LC, hilux, gx, lx, 4runner. A lot of the aftermarket parts work in multi vehicles

Technically it's a Landcruiser, as its the same platform, but just a little smaller. The original Prado was a light duty 70 series back in the '80s then became its own model after that.
