Lexus GX470 Headlight Replacement

Thank you Timmy the Toolman! Great video, it really helped me determine what all fasteners to remove in order to replace my headlights. I went with OEM sport lights and Lasfit LEDs and it turned out great! I don’t have the deep pockets to replace with custom headlights, but they look great regardless. Keep up the awesome videos, they are super helpful!

We're glad you like the video. Running the wires over the top of the radiator and underneath the body seemed to be the most logical routing to us at the time. Maybe if we gave it more thought and were willing to extend the wire we could have come up with a better routing.

Here's an update regarding the quality of the BXBuilt headlights and the quality of their customer service. Recently one of Thanh's headlights stopped working. Not a good sign for the quality they put out. As for their customer service, their delivery times are pretty atrocious. I didn't know at the time of filming this video, but some guys have waited over a year to get their lights. Knowing these lead times, how long will it take for Thanh to get a replacement? I'm guessing a very, very long time so he's going to have to put one of his OEM headlights back on for the time being, Also, their reputation on Facebook Toyota pages is atrocious. There's tons of shit talking about the BXBuilt brand. *With all this new information, I can no longer give my support for BXBuilt products.* Choose a different supplier like TEQ Customs in Raleigh, North Carolina. facebook.com/TEQCustoms/ I've met the guys that run TEQ Customs and they are good dudes. I would have taken this video down altogether, but the video still holds value for anyone wanting to swap out headlights on their Lexus GX470. 03/06/23 - It appears BxBuilt might not be in business anymore and potentially screwing over a whole lot of people who paid them a lot of money to get a set of their headlights. As more information is shared, I'll update this comment. 03/08/23 - It's confirmed that BxBuilt is out of business. Will the owner refund people their money that didn't receive their lights? I'm sort of doubting that will happen, but maybe the guy has morals, integrity and a soul and isn't going to screw anyone over. I'll report back with an update on the situation as I learn more about it. 04/04/23 - I'm hearing from people who had outstanding orders with BxBuilt that they have not been reimbursed. It appears the owner of BxBuilt does lack morals and integrity and has no issues screwing people over. That's very unfortunate. I regret showcasing BxBuilt headlights in this video because it probably inspired people to buy from them and maybe they are some of the people that got ripped off. I realize BxBuilt ripping people off is not our fault, but I still feel bad about it.

I have these on my 4runner, if your thinking about getting these do it! Especially if you drive at night at all. If I were to get another 4runner The first things I would do would be bx headlights and tundra brakes 💯. Maybe I’m bias cause I can’t see that great at night in the first place but these make me feel much more confident driving in the dark.

I ordered these not to long after I got my GX, waited a year for them and ended up canceling the order because I was selling the GX. I did have these on my 3rd Gen though and they were amazing.

Yeah, hopefully they can get their production time down. I'm guessing the reason for the long lead time is their lights are very popular and they are struggling to keep up with the demand.

@@TimmyTheToolman yeah it was at the very height of lock downs and the explosion in popularity of the GX470 out of nowhere so I don’t blame them. If you order today I think it’s a lot better. I’ve personally talked to the guy that runs BX and he is a cool dude and I don’t blame them for the delays it’s just circumstance.

@@TimmyTheToolman after owning 2 4runners, 4 GX470s, a scion FRS, and a Prius as the gateway drug, a few other flip cars and working my main job at the dealership and delivering for door dash, I was able to flip all those cars for a profit and buy a new tesla model 3 out right. I know I’ve gone to the dark side, but I still love Toyota trucks. Definitely way cooler people in the Toyota community than the tesla community.

Timmy, I am doing a retrofitted First Gen GX470. How did you bypass the DRL assuming the halos do a switchback when using the turn signal?

We didn't bypass the DRL. We just installed the headlights like we showed in the video.

Thx for the videos. Timmy, did you ever figure out the catalyst monitor issue on the 4-runner that you installed the engine in? Were you able to get 4-runner to pass the state inspection? Help a brother out

Brendon is still having issues getting the catalyst monitor to show ready. He talked with the guys at ORS and they think it could possibly be an issue with the ECU. I'm not so certain that's the culprit.

I'm just a little familiar with these Lexus models, mostly the GX 470 and LX 470. I honestly couldn't give you a good comparison of the two because I know zero about the LX600 and nothing really about the GX460 as well. I must say. This headlight replacement procedure look to complex for this rig. Not sure what was on Toyota guys mind when they design it ;) I own 4 runner 2000 and it was easy as F. I also own Volvo XC60 and also no problem with uninstalling headlight. I am very suprised and confudes ;)

I agree with your assessment. It is quite a bit of work to get the headlights swapped out. It certainly could have been made easier by Toyota/Lexus.

I’m really disappointed in the engineers on this headlight replacement. A little extra work and thought and they could’ve easily made it where an engine mount needs to be removed to change the headlights.

@@snasuage Well yes, I do. I enjoy my LED rgb lights while I’m out in the wilderness, I enjoy them while I’m getting groceries. Definitely a mod I don’t regret. I also utilize my extremely bright projectors that went with my RGBs. I call irrelevance on your assessment of mods like these.

That's what happens when you have a popular product and everyone wants it. Maybe they will hire more people to increase their production to reduce the lead time. Long lead times are fairly common in the automotive industry when a company makes a well-built and desirable product.

@@PaulHero Yeah, it's a long wait. Hopefully they can reduce these wait times. Some of it is a supply problem. If you can't get the parts, you can't build the units. Some of it is probably a manpower issue.
