Lexus GX470 vs. Toyota Tacoma on Gold Mountain Trail Part 1: The Gatekeeper

In today's video, we discover whether a #lexus #gx470 on 35 inch tires with #lockers can make it up the #gatekeeper at Gold Mountain trail in Big Bear, CA. My bro ‪@jonnytacooutdoors‬ also came along in his Toyota Tacoma 4x4 build on 35s as well. It was really cool to see how the different builds performed on this obstacle. There is a 17” difference in wheelbase and the Tacoma is a few inches wider track width as well. This obstacle turned away some big tire #Jeep s ahead of us so I can’t believe we were able to do it.

great video. Definitely a spotter trail... we made it up the first waterfall with a stock height GX460... lol.. on the second waterfall I saw nothing but blue sky... flying blind... definetly a spotter trail 😃

The dashcam mirror is great and can be used as a trail cam. I linked my head unit trail cam solution here

@@lexus_offroad_adventures thanks! That’s what I thought you were doing, keeping the stock rear camera and using the auxiliary camera with the mirror kit as a trail cam. That’s what I’ll be doing with mine most certainly. Or I’ll get a legit 360 camera setup with its own display. But I’d like to cut down on extra displays, having already a carpuride, scan gauge, phone mount on the dash.

I had the Phoenix automotive unit in mine, and I took it out because one the sound was crap and it was clunky as hell. Wasted $800 bucks. I have the Mark Levinson and for a stock 15yrs system it was quite good until I got stuck in a water hole in northern Ontario Canada. I’m sooo glad I fitted a snorkel or I would of hydro-locked motor.

@@Fremlin snorkel is coming soon for me! Glad you had one. I will be trying out the Phoenix Android 12 unit when it comes out. Hopefully better than the last. Others have said that the “Sergey firmware” which is an aftermarket software add-on, helped the performance of the android 10 unit a lot. Hopefully there are some improvements in the new generation, I can’t wait to find out.

Man cool rigs but this was really hard to watch. You all need some serious work on your spotter skills to keep those rigs moving and not getting beat up. Both vehicles could have easily made that with good spotting.
