You are mostly based on european cars yet I cant find anything about Peugeot, which is very common car manufacturer in EU. I have Peugeot 308 with 1.6VTi engine (same engine is build in MINI also) , and it is very specific engine with lots of things that can and do go wrong. So it would be very helpful if you make one video about that engine. What can we do about oil consumption (some says replacment of the PCV valve solves the problem but I kinda do not believe in that statement).

Dan, excellent diagnosis. It demonstrates that as independent diagnostic techs we need access to OEM tech info. It would have been interesting to see if there was any freeze frame data available with the DTC to see if it showed the battery cooling fans were commanded on at the time the DTC was logged. Would also have liked to see the current trace on the scope of the old fans verses the new fans could reveal any back EMF or perhaps some AC voltage leaking on to the DC circuit. Just thinking out loud here.

One of the MIT open course engineering videos demonstrated what "noise" would do to a chip that is looking for s clean "yes/no" (1 or 0). The data sheets for semiconductors give you the tolerance for each particular chip. "0 or NO" may be from zero to 1.8 volts. "1 or YES" may be from 3.5 to 5 volts. If voltage spikes (static) are introduced into the line, the voltage may drive past the point where the chip goes past the tolerated voltages and the receiving chips don't understand what the transmitting chip is trying to say. Odd that all 3 fans failed at the same time. It could also be that the failure of one fan would not produce enough noise to drive the communication past the "threshold of misunderstanding", but once the 3rd fan failed, it was too much noise for the communication line to tolerate. If these fans have brushes, sparking will eventually occure as the brushes, commutator and bearings wear. Side note: My cousin worked in the Silicon Valley in the early days. He told me that a big part of the code written for any program contained tons of fault checking and data verification, ie, did you put in a number where a letter was required..did you enter that you were 20 feet tall and weighed a kilo (etc, etc). Dirty connections, broken wires from too much twisting, kinks, etc caused many communication problems. The "hand shake" contained tests of communication. Good video...showing the on/off waveforms illustrated the problem very well. I will post the MIT to this if I find it.

@@danthemann6565 Hi, yes, a noise filter would do the trick, a simple LC (or a snubber circuit, or both) would "swallow" the noise created by the fans. And probably cost peanuts compared to three new fans.

Peugeot/citroen - my sister had a 1996 Peugeot 306 that I learned to drive in and she always said French cars are crap for electrics and brakes. How are those two items in your experience? I did end up getting a year 2000 Peugeot 306 as my first car and also had a 2004 Peugeot 307 estate. I found I was less impressed by the suspension than brake issues but the 307 did have a COM2000 unit issue which was under warranty thankfully.

The way they came to a stop they looked like brushless PM motors. Like the ones in your computer. Can't argue that the fans did it but I'm not certain there are brushes in there. Manf would not want anything that sparks near the batteries. Would love to tear them apart and see if they have any filtering on the supply wires.

@@OldePhart Could be some faulty condensators in the blower motors if there's a filter inside ? No idea why the motors else would give the noise on the line......

The bloopers make get me every time lol, They doing the dpf thing over here in uk as they been trailing it for around 2 years, been warning all the boys who been getting deletes that even with a empty dpf they will soon fail the mot's, then spend more money making it "oem" again to get it back on the road Pukka vid buddy 👍

@@Diagnosedan up to £1000 on cars, and £2500 on vans, but also depends what other powers the police or vosa (they are the police of the road but more authority) decide to enforce such as seizure of the vehicle or destruction of the vehicle, but i feel they dont push those often unless its a repeat offender and/or they want to make a example of them, Also i believe (not certain) it will be classed as a "dangerous defect" on the fail sheet which means the vehicle can not be driven again so if the test station are not doing the work, a recovery vehicle must take it to the garage to have it repaired, after the repair they can only drive it on the road to the test station for a retest

You probably get this question a lot But my biggest problem dealing with car electrical is the source for electric diagrams. I like to deal with small electrical stuff, I am not even close to what you do, you are my hero. What is the best reliable source for electrical diagrams for cars?
Don't let this trick you!
