this is not a normal Cvt gearbox but works differently and is called E-CVT

BreakItLikeItsHot ich bin auch kein Freund von stufenlosen Getrieben, mich nerven die Dinger. Aber ich muss zugeben, dass es im LS600h erstaunlich gut mit dem Motor harmonisiert. Insbesondere da mit dem Dickschiff meisten sowieso eher am gemütlichen Gleiten ist, da passt das alles dann ziemlich gut.

Thats the F-Sport, its the lightest of them all, he has about 2100kg. The 2600 Version is the extended Wheelbase Version with President and Executive Seat (4 Seat) Package.

It's a CVT or continously variable transmission. My Rx400h has a 1 speed CVT and when you put your foot down not only does it go like a stabbed rat but once it reaches max Rpm it stays there but the gears change and its still flying into the next time zone. Amazing car, I couldnt think of any other brand of car I would have over any lexus.

The market seems bigger in europe, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Toyota, Nissan and Lexus seem to be the main brands who have CVT cars at the moment. Makes you wonder why all auto cars aren't CVT, especially as many American cars are. Far faster than traditional automatic.

It's not actually a CVT. It's a planetary gear set with two electric motors in them. Each component can rotate individually in different directions, they same directions or locked together in the same direction to achieve petrol acceleration, electric acceleration, deceleration, braking, regeneration. For all intents and purposes they function as a CVT, but there's no belt, drums, etc. The LC500h has a planetary four speed auto trans on top of this set up too.

Can someone explain to me, why the RPM doesn't go all the way up to 6400 right away and stay there during the whole acceleration process? Wouldn't the engine produce more power at that higher RPM and couldn't the car that way accalerate quicker from 0-210 km/h (at which the RPM is finally fixed to 6400). The limitation cannot be the lowest gear ration, because at 40 km/h the engine RPM is at 3000 (probably at the lowest gear ratio). That way the RPM could reach 6400 RPM at around 85 km/h in the lowest gear ratio. So the RPM could theoretically stay at 6400 from 85 km/h (where the limiting factor is the lowest gear) all the way up to top speed. Also the car makes a wierd RPM-jump from 4000 to 4800 at around 100-120 km/h.

As far as I understand it, it's a limitation in the electric motor part of the e-CVT gearbox that controls engine speed and power delivery which has a limited maximum speed, so at slower speeds the RPM can't be as high due to the way it works. See eahart.com/prius/psd/ for an interactive example of the gearbox. MG2 = Motor generator directly connected to the wheels MG1 = Motor generator connected to the engine ICE = Engine If you turn up the engine speed, MG1 will go up and into it's maximum RPM range, limiting the engine speed. But if you leave it at max and turn MG2 up, MG1's speed drops then drops because of the gearing relationship, so the engine RPM can go up a bit more, so on and so forth. Only at 45mph can the engine reach near maximum speed without overspeeding MG1. The ratio on the LS600h will be different to achieve a higher top speed, so that limitation will extend further up the speed range too. I believe the weird jump is a 2nd gearbox shifting gear but I've not looked into it.

Max Tp the transmission doesn't have the gear ratio spread big enough to support a very low cruising speed which this has and very short gearing in the beginning for maximum power at starts so it rises up slowly but you can cruise at like 150 miles per hour at a very low RPM

Horsepower is Torque times RPM. Then come the gears or the constant variable gearing this transmission provides. The torque that gets delivered to the wheels and make the car accelerate depends on the torque the engine makes and the the 'magnification' of this torque by the gearing ratio. For different ratio's of the gears there is different RPM's in which the combination results in the best torque delivery for acceleration. With lower ratio's the amount of torque at the wheels quickly drops off as the RPMs increase and thus you would need to shift or in this case the ratio will change continuously as the next ratio can provide more torque at the wheels. And as the ratio changes the RPM at which peak torque is delivered to the wheels changes in most cases from the engine torque figure gradually to the horsepower figure. I may have misunderstood some shit but this is how I understand it after having watched previous vids from people like Engineering Explained. Maybe you should watch a few of his vids cuz he is surprisingly good at making it understandable.

it has a CVT gearbox - continuous variable transmission. so the rpm stays the same but the gearing changes.

What it does is adjust the "gearing" output so the car can give you the better acceleration of the better fuel milage as you can be going at a certaing speeds at completely different rmps

Yes because he has lowest weight of them all. He is very low equipped has no Massage Seats, no Rear Ventilated seats, no secondary rear ac, even no curtains in the Rest side windows. Just normal 3 Zone AC, Navigation, LED Headlights (Standard in all 600s in Europe) Ventilated and heated Front Seats and thats all.

Wird der 600hl nicht auch von dem 4,6l V8 aus dem 460 angetrieben, nur dass er von einem Elektromotor unterstützt wird, sodass die gesagte Leistung gegeben ist? Der Elektromotor ist ja auch der Grund für das CVT, deshalb wird die Kraft deutlich besser auf die Straße gebracht, als mit einem Stufengetriebe.

Im LS600h ist tatsächlich ein 5L V8 verbaut. Vermutlich basiert der auch auf dem 4.6L, hat aber in der Tat mehr Hubraum.

passion:driving auch wenn der Kommentar schon 3 Jahre Alt ist möchte ich ein Statement dazu abgeben. Der 5.0L basiert nicht auf dem 4,6L. Es sind 2 Grundverschiedene Motoren, auch wenn beide Motoren 8 Zylinder haben auf 2 Zylinderbänke aufgeteilt in V Anordnung. Es sind sehr viele Sachen unterschiedlich: Art der Einspritzung, Material der Kolben und Ventile, Luftführung der Ansaugung und sowieso die Auslegung der Motoren.
