Lexus SC 300 Shorted Fuel Injector Drivers

How do fuel injectors work? In this example I'm showing you the inside of a Powertrain Control Module or PCM for short. Inside of the PCM you'll see circuit boards that are filled with drivers, transistors, etc. With this PCM, we try our best to expose the damage on the circuit board and how it's affecting the operation of the fuel injectors.
What we see is leakage at one of the capacitors and damage to one of the fuel injector drivers. In this case, the PCM was allowing two injectors to open at the same time causing poor performance and fuel mileage.
Before we replace the PCM we inspected each injector for integrity and performance. We also tested for any high resistance levels to see if the injector coils were not shorted as well.

Thanks for the video I have constant 12 volts to all 4 injectors 98 civic 1.6 (flooding cylinders no start) no flickering/pulse while cranking, cam/crank TDC, CYP pick up sensor resistance measures good, I have good spark (good inputs) no shorts on injector wires at all, main relay is good crankshaft sensors is good. Just pulled computer out Would you suspect bad control driver in the PCM?

Look at RPM live data PID with a scan tool while cranking. Do you see any value at all or does it stay at zero? If you see about 200 RPM, then that means you are getting a good crank signal AND the pcm should be switching the ground side of the injectors. Before replacing the pcm, you should get an ohm reading from the injectors to make sure you don't have shorted injectors. If you have shorted injectors, it's possible the pcm detected excessive current and purposely turned off switching on that particular injector to protect the pcm. If the injectors are shorted, then replace the shorted injectors and see if the car starts. Before you replace the pcm, check for good power and ground at the pcm by doing voltage drop testing. Bad computer ground can do funny things to cars, including causing no starts.

Do you do repairs? I sent my ecu (95 sc 300) to TaninAuto cuz of noticeably leaking capacitors and having a fuel flooding issue. After reinstalling it i have the same problem. I’m thinking these drivers could be bad? And they just didn’t see any signs to warrant a repair?
