I would have an advise to all car reviewers: spend less time explaining the styling (that people see and can evaluate with their own eyes) and spend more time explaining the function and user experience.

There's another trim of the Grand Highlander in the USA that's higher than the limited: the platinum. That's the one I have. The big differences are the second row heated/ventilated seats, heads-up display, and larger 20" wheels. As someone who drives the Toyota GH, I don't see a lot of meaningful differences between the two to justify paying the extra $10k to $20k for the TX. The Grand Highlander also has a more fuel efficient hybrid powertrain whereas the TX has the more expensive and performance-oriented hybrid max powertrain. The TX will also be coming out with a PHEV version, the TX 550h+, which the Grand Highlander will not have that option for this model year, but the differences between the PHEV and the TX 500h are HUGE. You can get something more luxurious and with 4-wheel steering with the 500h, but you cannot get those features with the TX 550h+. The TX 500h will have a panoramic glass roof whereas the TX 550h+ will not have that option. Basically, you're paying more money for the powertrain, and you're losing on some of the luxury features of the 500h. For me, that's a deal breaker. Of all of the available TX powertrains, the 500h is the best one. For the Grand Highlander, I would say that the Hybrid Limited powertrain and trim are the better options. You lose out on some of the features from the platinum trim, which are only available for the gas and hybrid max versions, but you gain incredible gas mileage. I would take the gas mileage over more performance or luxury features any day of the week.

@LivingInAnInverseReality save your money and try living frugal. It took me years of saving. I've had bad luck in past with cars etc. But last one my Toyota that I was going to sale has 218,000 miles and after new shocks for leaky shock and brakes and new alternator. I decided time for new Toyota. I am keeping the old just in case. I worked my butt off my whole life until I couldn't no more. Had to get out if expensive California . Lost my house that we built half of. Raised my kids there. But had to retire and move to where we can afford to live. I been very careful. I do have car payments now but no credit cards. I don't go clothes shopping until I'm desperate and like Wal mart if need jeans. I'm not ine to spend on hair make up etc. But I wanted a vehicle I'm not paying a ton on gas if gas goes up as I assume it will because the push in electric cars less cars needing gas. Those oil companies want to make money. Also I figure I can camp out with my dog in those long trips to go visit my kids who live a few states away. I'm really hoping this was worth it for the long run.

I think they need to compare AWD Lexus TX with AWD of Grand Highlander and FWD with plane TX though it's rear wheel drive. Compare hybrid with the hybrid. I see TX is more money just to have electric seats you wait for it to move when folding. Or the sound system is different. Lexus is just upscale Toyota but much higher price for basically same. I wo Der if the regular hybrid that gets 34 / 36 mpg is the best overall. Just wondering maybe I should of got that one.

Something he didn't mention is that the TX has more structural welds and adhesives so it will drive better. Multiple reviewers have mentioned that at the Hawaii drive event, they (or a passenger) were feeling car sick in the 2nd/3rd rows on the mountain roads. So - the TX should be better composed on the road and be quieter inside. Also, rear wheel steering probably helps the driving dynamics, and certainly cruising the parking lot.

The biggest disappointment is when you go to the top tier levels of both of these vehicles. On the TGH Plat edition, you pretty much get all the bells and whistles including a Pano Roof. The only exception is that you will still have a 2.5ltr Turbo Hybrid Max motor. Whereas the Lexus TX550h+, you will get everything luxury options maxed out BUT...NO PANO Sunroof!! Only exception is that when it comes to the power train, you willl be getting the tried and true 3.5ltr 2GR motor and it's also an E-Hybrid which is awesome. So my take on this is that for the price range of the Lexus, I feel that they dropped the ball in the interior features but knocked it out in the powertrain department. The TGH Plat Edition, feels more like bang for the buck but time will tell how the motor's reliability will be since it is brand new. Toyota is VERY WELL known for reliability but I feel that Toyota should have at least given the same motor since the tried and true 2GR V6 has been their bread and butter. I guess like he said, "Don't need a proprod since you'll barely open the hood" It has been considered the Maytag of vehicles. I understand why Toyota has done this because if it is that reliable, then it will not be back for anything maintenance issue. And ofcourse they have to make money somehow.

Currently have a deposit on a Limited AWD GH with are 2.4L. Has some options added I don’t care for. Now I see a local TX350AWD base, that’s within $3000. I drive 2500 miles per month. 6’3, 295. Comfort is premium. You have to manually tilt/telescope the steering wheel on the Highlander vs the Lexus. Also hood prop rod vs struts. Painted lowers vs exposed plastic. Better layout ie the 3rd row in my opinion. Longer warranty. And the dealership experience, especially for Service, is big. Own a ‘23 GX460 currently. Now thinking of getting the deposit back and going for just a base 350 AWD. Don’t need the panoroof or other bells/whistles.

Like the trunk space of Lexus is 20.1 cubic ft. And Toyota is 20.6 cubic ft. And maybe also go over the height, length, width? Cause I might as well just do my own spread sheet. I’m expecting to watch this without having to go google the dimensions. And it would helpful to demonstrate how the electrical doors work on the Lexus. Someone please tell Toyota & Lexus HQ that some families have 5 members, as in 3 kids. Both vehicles have an added cost that comes with the purchase. This cost is not optional for either vehicle. I tested both vehicles the same day and chose the platinum Grand Highlander because you get more bang for your buck. The added cost is a $5500 Lexus performance and Service where the Toyota is $1699. So ask yourself, how much would you be willing to pay for refinement with the Lexus over a well refined balls-out Platinum Grand Highlander. If you asked me, paying $13000 more for a badge is ludicrous.

Excellent review! I really like Toyota's business strategy with these two brands/cars. If you think you've made yourself enough money in life but still want to live a reasonable life and want to buy a car, which will come to match up with your status, then go ahead and get yourself the Lexus, because unlike the German competitors, the Lexus will stay with you for many, many years without causing you troubles because they just never break. However if you're just thinking what to buy across the Toyota's cars line up, it means that you don't feel like needing to some how stand out, plus you might be after that third seat in the third row, then the Grand Highlander is the best one for you. These two models are perfect in their own classes. That's a very wise move from Toyota! Although I've always been a great fan of the German cars, as I grow up, I'm coming to value reliability over stickers on the mask. After all you can only drive as fast as the signs allow you to. On the other hand, Lexus are very good driving cars.

As someone who’s worked in the car industry my whole life and is now a auto body tech id like to add things that you maybe didn’t or did mention. Firstly , the paint quality on the Lexus IS usually way better than Toyotas . I’ve painted hundreds of Lexus and toyota vehicles and the thickness and quality of the clear coat is way better on the Lexus . The Lexus also have way more sound deadening through the cabin and body panels to reduce NVH and road noise . The Lexus also has have a softer ride (this I cannot confirm myself but I watched a few reviews on both and all said the Lexus had better suspension tuning. I install and remove airbags so I have a good idea of interior fit and finish and material . The Lexus always have better materials . Lastly and maybe the most important feature is probably the mark levinson sound system in the Lexus IS literally 10x better than the JBL sound system in the Toyotas (KZbin savaagegeese he’s a KZbin car reviewer who goes in depth and tests sound systems out) . From personal experience it sounds way better to my ears as well . Summary : better ride, better sound system, better paint, more NHV material/reduced wind noise on highway and in general .

Toyota/Lexus is planning on releasing most of their models in Hybrid soon... basically their form of cutting down Carbon emissions

Great comparison video. I agree with you about the buttons being nice to see on the GH. Maybe it’s just me but the gap between Toyota and Lexus products have narrowed a ton in recent years. So much so that if you put tape over the logos it would be tough to tell them apart. Lexus used to be REALLY prestigious back in the day. Still terrific vehicles but I wouldn’t spend the extra $20K in Canada for the TX. Same power train and major parts. Especially when you compare add ons between the toyota/lexus websites for things like front and rear cameras. Same cameras, but significantly more on Lexus (at least in Canada). My last gripe is about the new Lexus logo. That traditional “L” logo was what cemented the Lexus premium luxury brand in people’s eyes (at least mine). Why change a great thing? I don’t recall BMW, Ferrari or Porsche changing their iconic logos - but I could be wrong.

The Grand Highlander also looks more masculine than the Lexus TX. Depending on who you are that may be a plus or minus

If you’re planning to use the 3rd frequently, the TX is what you want. The TX has a push button seat release compared to the pull lever on the GH. That would suck to pull each and every time especially if you’re a kid

If you want the TX then get it as the GH will disappoint in comparison. I would rather own a Palisade/CX-90/Telluride than the GH after seeing them all and driving them all, but the Lexus is a step above them all for sure.

This tx is a limited trim of the Highlander. Lexus has gone a bit downhill. Tx was rushed and its build not much different from GH. Gone are the days when lexus went overboard to make their cars better insulated and comfier than german lux cars.

Personally not a fan of the lower plastic trim on the Highlander and the fact that it stays on the limited and platinum trims…to me it makes it look “cheap.” At the same time, I’m not 100% on the Lexus front end…

BE CAREFUL BEFORE YOU BUY A NEW GRAND HIGHLANDER .Grand Highlander Having a bad sound issue . I bought a brand new Grand Highlander 2024 and it`s making a booing sound and too much pressure in the cabin and it`s giving me and my family a headache and ear pain. the sound is coming from bottom of the car from the 2nd raw area. I brought it back to the dealership and they said there was a another GH owner also having the same sound issue and they don`t know how to fix the issue .I couldn't drive the car because the sound giving us ear pain and headache. I contact the Toyota customer care many times and they are not doing anything on it. I am really Upset and I never expect something from a trusted brand like Toyota. Now I spend a huge amount of money and I cannot drive the car . The dealership and Toyota don`t know how to solve the issue. so be careful before you buy a Grand Highlander. Do a test drive and make sure there is no such sound on your car because even if you bring it back to fix it ,they don`t know how to fix it .

Boom noise normally comes from one or more of the panels in the vehicle. If you can pinpoint the panel where the noise comes form, like you said in the 2nd row floor panel, you may open up that area, best to the floor sheel metal and put a sticky damping pad and it will likely take care of it. The hard part is to find the exact location and panel or panels. Boom issues need to be well addressed in the vehicle design stage. Hope this helps.

Idk...I saw a TX while running and at first glance I thought it was a Grand Highlander, I had to look hard at the front to notice it was a Lexus and I saw a GH the next week in person....so for me at first glance not really a big difference, but as a driver I would prefer the luxury doing a cross Country drive more.

Grand Highlander wins the exterior competition by a mile. Internally you'll be hard pressed to find a difference between the two vehicles that doesn't include a simple change in logo. So from my money the Grand Highlander is the better vehicle because you get A better looking interior and 90% of the interior for a lot less money

Something he didn't mention is that the TX has more structural welds and adhesives so it will drive better. Multiple reviewers have mentioned that at the Hawaii drive event, they (or a passenger) were feeling car sick in the 2nd/3rd rows on the mountain roads. So - the TX should drive better and be quieter inside.
