Here is one car reviewer who didnt repeat like a broken radio,that Audi has the best interior. Well,it had,some 20 years ago. Not anymore. Lexus quality is top notch. Not performance. Build quality. Years after years all their major components are working as they should,while the German cars are falling to pieces.

Just a quick story behind the idea for the parcel shelf made of cloth: Every Takumi that wants to start within the Lexus factory must fold a cat with origami paper with their non-dominant hand in under 90 sec. That's one reason it's made out of cloth, cause when you fold it, it looks like a cats face. The second reason why it's out of cloth is to allow you to fill the boot to the brim without having to take the parcel shelf out.

After 60,000 miles and 4 years we absolutely love our UX200. 31 mpg from day one. Agile, nimble handling for a CUV at $31k USD. The look is simply beautiful. Best of all, there has been ZERO PROBLEMS and we live in severe desert and mountain. The entertainment system took me about 20 mins, to get used to. I dont care about the smaller size, because the only thing we have in the back seats is dust. It is definitely a car for one or two. People who complain that it isnt a roomy people mover, get rubbers or an NX. It's like complaining about lack of space in a Miata. As for the "rigidity" of the rear cover...well that's there to conceal whats in the "boot" from potential "smash & grabbers". The resale on these are also very good.

I currently drive a Lexus CT200H 2016 model and will move to the UX within a couple of years. I'm sure I am going to be happy with it as I love my CT and can't see me not being satisfied and impressed with this model now that I have decided to stick with Lexus for at least the next few cars.

James you obviously contradicted yourself; only positive thing about this review was the intro. Then came to your senses as the German rivals continue to possess your psyche; “Hideous materials”... “like a 1970 Datsun” ... “Pretty Nasty, (seats)”... “Infotainment system pretty nasty”... “Hideous Hideous touchpad”... “Operating system doesn’t work like German rivals”... “Bad Thing, and Minuscule storage”... “Downward turn”... “Things get even worse” (boot & back seats)... “piece of material” ... “like a kite”. This Lexus had no chance!

The infotainment system works fine in our UX, at least it works, much better than the system in my Jaguar i Pace which cost nearly 3 times the price of our UX!

Serious question...is the touchpad a little more difficult for UK drivers since they are most likely using their non-dominant mouse hand to operate it? We have this car (F-Sport) in the US and the touchpad is pretty easy to get used to.

Technically, they are superior in every way if you plan to replace the car after 3-5 years. Lexus is superior if you want to keep it for more than a decade.

Why do the Japanese struggle with infotainment systems? I find it quite bizarre. Mazda, Toyota, Nissan, they're all pretty terrible.

@@hennokun Yes I have but quite a few years ago! I agree that UX design on Japanese infotainment systems is mediocre at best, but strangely the technology is lacking too. Slow processors, rubbish software, poor quality, low-resolution screens etc. I was amazed at how absolutely rubbish the infotainment system is in the new Toyota Corolla, for example. It even looks absolutely dreadful!

Back to the drawing board of Practicality before Design. This is why Qashqais/ Tucsan/ Sportage/Kuga/ XTrail/ are selling. I dont know why Lexus still bothers with 6 cylinder on some models. All modern combustion engines cars could be 3 or 4 cylinders with turbos for best efficiency, performance and lower emmissions.

Smaller engines with turbos are less reliable than larger engines that don't need turbos to boost performance.

It is one place manufacturers could design better and limit revs but they cannot design for a lack of scheduled maintenance. The benefits of turbos outweighs the negatives eg turbodiesels and high altitude/ efficiency etc

I heard that the NX is noisy and uncomfortable for a Lexus, though. I don't know if the UX is any different. Here in the Philippines, there's a like USD20,000 different between the base models of the UX and the NX.

I don’t understand why it’s a hybrid. This was ok 20 years ago, but a hybrid and it doesn’t plug in?? So, it has two engines and in terms of efficiency, it hosts the energy losses associated with the transformation of power from the ICE, to storage and then the electric propulsion. So very strange and unnecessary. Buy a tesla!

It depends on the type of the fabric, some made of velvet are pretty nice, even better than leather. This one is unacceptable, though.

Well I can't really think of any redeeming features of this 'jacked-up' expensive hatch back which is probably better than the CT but that's not saying much. Looks like a bagful of elephants and certainly can't carry a load like an elephant. The 'hideous' description for the seat material and a recommendation for leather is interesting when another German channel would have the opposite view. The Audi Q3. BMW X2 or Volvo XC40 are far better cars and buys.

You really shouldn't recommend bmw or volvo over a lexus, one of the main factors of buying a car are reliability and after sales care of dealers, both of which lexus is top in for countless years. Design is subjective, I personally like the look of new lexus cars, certainly more stylish and interesting than the different sized clones bmw keeps chucking out.
