The Man Inside is a 1958 British crime adventure film directed by John Gilling and starring Jack Palance, Anita Ekberg, Nigel Patrick, Anthony Newley and Bonar Colleano.[2] It was produced by Irving Allen and Albert R. Broccoli for Warwick Film Productions. The screenplay by David Shaw was based on the 1954 novel of the same name by M. E. Chaber. It was Bonar Colleano's final film role.[3]
Plot
Sam Carter is a jeweller's clerk who dreams of stealing a fortune in diamonds and eventually does so, but he kills a man in the process. He then embarks on the high life, but is pursued across Europe by private detective Milo March, a woman named Trudi Hall, and two thugs, Martin Lomer and Gerard Heinz. These characters end up trying to outwit each other over the largest diamond, which is worth $700,000, on a train travelling to London. March describes the diamond as "$700,000 of unhappiness" because people are willing to do anything to get it.

Anthony Newley's a real charmer in this one - he steals every scene he's in, just as smoothly as Carter stole the diamond! Good support by other British stalwarts James, Colleano, and Pleasance, too.

I note an early credit for *Nick (Nicolas) Roeg* as camera operator. Roeg worked as cinematographer (uncredited) on *David Lean's* productions of *Lawrence of Arabia* (1962) and Dr. Zhivago (1965), and is credited as cinematographer for *The Masque of the Red Death* (1964) directed by Roger Corman, *Fahrenheit 451* (1966) directed by Francois Truffaut, and *Far From the Madding Crowd* (1967) directed by John Schlesinger. Roeg would expand his career co-directing *Performance* (1970), with Donald Cammell, and direct *Walkabout* (1971) (also photographed), *Don't Look Now* (1973), and *The Man Who Fell to Earth* (1976).

TY for posting. The corporate history (Wikip) of the financial collaboration among co-producers Irvin Allen and Albert Brocoli in Warwick Films, resulting in this film, is fascinating. Allen ultimately thought that James Bond was beneath him while Brocoli was more pragmatic. Enjoy!

And Allen was eating his own words so much with the success of the James Bond films that he decided to launch his own spy movie franchise in rival to his former business partner Broccoli: the MATT HELM films with Dean Martin!

Bonar Colleano - Martin Lomer in this - was an American whose family was famous in the circus world in Australia and the USA. His principal acting success came in Britain from 1944-58. He was killed in a car crash in August 1958. This was his last film.

He was returning from a theatre in Liverpool when his car went the wrong way at a road junction: his passenger survived but Colleano didn't.

Good movie. But Anthony Newley (Stop the World I Want to Get Off) steals it. But Palance and Newley make a good Duo. Palance is a damn good and intelligent actor. When you plan to shoot to kill, always shoot twice!

A not very successfully made and acted film from the 50’s but interesting shots of Lisbon and Madrid of the time (almost no traffic). Jack Palance acting rather primitive (he was originally from Ukraine and built like a truck) and a first by the Swedish gorgeous Anita 😅, all under the spell of Joe Henderson’s tune “Trudie”, his first and greatest success from 1958 (I believe he then was the husband of a very young Petula Clark). Also a first by Donald Pleasance.

Experience, my friend, experience. Of course Palance, of Ucranian origin, later on developed with good scripts, into an experienced and sensitive actor. But everybody had to first learn the ropes. Just like with film criticism…
