@@rebeccajunis8501 They won't. I had this issue on the same model two years ago and they refused to take care of it because they, allegedly, had no feedback about this issue on the 17-w series. It was under warranty. I called them yesterday because it broke the plastic around the keyboard, and one of the cracks is slowly going where the screen is attached. They refused to send me a spare part to repair it.

It went really well, and the new battery is still trucking along this long after. I think the biggest thing for me was getting past doing a pry opening for the first time. I'd done a lot of stuff with desktops before, but that's usually a couple of screws, or just a latch in some cases. Carefully going around the seam of my laptop with a tiny prybar felt a lot more high risk lol.

I like the look of this HP (as well as the HP OMEN that I have). SSD, hard drive, 2x RAM slots, and beefy cooling (better cooling than my HO PMEN!). Most in built speakers are pretty crap if I'm honest, though most people will either be using a headset/headphones, or external speakers, anyway. I used external speakers ever since I had an Acer Aspire 5742 (which had just ONE single speaker).

I had exactly the same issue, including laptop stopped working. I ended up sending the laptop for warranty repair since it was still covered. I am not sure if there was something else wrong with it at that point. Two years later, all good, however I just removed the back cover to check the m2 since I will be swapping that with 1tb version and I noticed the battery being slightly swollen. I can't really see from the new battery pictures, are they slightly swollen in the middle to begin with or this second one it's about to get get bad... Also, I noticed some oil in the cooler area meaning thermal pads are getting bad, temps are still good but I may replace the thermal paste and pads next time I will be opening the cover

0:33 I guess you could call that a "bad Omen" :) Anyways great video, same exact thing happened to me recently on a MacBook Air... one day I noticed that the thing wouldn't sit straight on a table, it would wobble a little, and then the lid wouldn't completely close over the keyboard. Bought a replacement off eBay, watched one of your MacBook Air videos (VERY helpful btw!) and all is good now. BTW be careful about running laptops without batteries. In some cases, it may do weird/unusual/unexpected things. For example, in the case of my MacBook Air, it would only run in "slow mode" (i.e. heavily throttled) without a battery fitted, even though temperatures were fine, the fans weren't running at full bore, etc.

before my recent omen purchase, the last time i owned an hp product was in 2011. i had a hp pavillion 17 inch with an i7. first the hard drive failed, then a few months later there was a recall on sandybridge laptop processors that i chose to ignore. about a year after that it would thermal throttle while gaming and shut the whole laptop down. this eventually made it so the laptop didnt run without being plugged in, and it died in 2014, just didnt boot at all. i was careless with my tech back then. this new omen seems to have decent cooling, considering how thin it is. but the charging brick is poorly design . the cord connected to the charger is at a right angle and has a loose connection, and i have had to get a replacemnt recently. so hp stilll has a ways to go, but its getting better.

Hi there, I've experienced a similar issue with my battery, which I have replaced with another HP original. However the battery will not calibrate properly and after a few cycles seems to stop discharging completely - hence the laptop dies if the power cable comes out. We've replaced few battery a second time but still no luck calibrating the battery and again it has stored discharging after a few cycles. Any advice you may be able to offer would be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance, 👍🏽

Good morning Graham , a couple of things. A customer just brought me a 1.5 year x360 HP laptop that was over heating. When I went to take apart, there were four screws under the rubber foot rest. Once you peel back rubber, the remaining adhesive strip is toast. Really bad design as you mentioned. I had to clean then use some 3M narrow double sided tape to reinstall the rubber bumper. Again, a real pain. You can buy the rubber strip for a ridiculous amount of 50 $. Second thing is the overheating was caused by a swollen battery that actually made the touchpad really really hard to use. I replaced the battery for the customer and after reassembly , I discovered the swollen battery actually deformed the top palm rest . If you touch some areas now, the palm clicks like a warped cookie baking sheet. Just a pitiful overall engineering design by HP. Stay well. Neal in Atlanta, staying busy.

Yea... Older (pre-retina) MacBooks are prone to this same issue. TBh I don't blame HP or Apple for a failed Lipo cell, it's just the failure mode. These flat cells are the only way to get the battery density up, but on the flipside, the 18650 cells that cheap laptops use don't swell when they fail. Tough choice to make really...

Yes, within the Windows 10 OS you can limit charge to 80% which prolongs the life of the battery but if you are using it at home can remove netbook and notebook batteries with just two catches and use mains power only to be 100% sure.
@Biffo12623 жыл бұрын
A mention of safe disposal might have been in order. Never ever, ever put one of these things in your household bins. They cause massive problems if you do do so. Take them to a safe disposal point at your local reclamation site. Never throw them away irresponsibly as the are poisonous and toxic.

@@Biffo1262 where are the settings for that?
@geraldh.80473 жыл бұрын
@@hatlink there is no such functionality in windows 10. Steven Booth is a liar. A few manufacturers have implemented something like this though, but it depends on the model and their proprietary control software. Some machines allow limiting in the BIOS, for example the HP ProBook 430/440 G5/G6 for example can do this as a BIOS setting.
@Spotify95TestAccount3 жыл бұрын
My HP OMEN 15-dc0003na has a BIOS setting to stop charge at either 60%, 80%, or 100%. If you're not using it on battery then it's best to limit it to 60%, which is an ideal long term Li-Ion storage charge. I have mine set to 100%, since I use mine on battery (not for gaming though). Though don't completely remove it (unless it's damaged, as in this example) because the power supply that HP bundles is well known for not being adequate enough. Under high load, my battery actually discharges slightly despite being plugged into mains.

@Adamant_IT4 жыл бұрын
Generally speaking I just charge labour. But I often round up parts costs. If the part costs £27, I charge 30. If it costs 65 I may charge 70. The rounding tends to be higher if I'm not getting much labour - eg, fitting-only charges tend to be low, so I'm more likely to round higher on parts. I use my discretion, but I believe I'm quite reasonable.

You do have to worry about bulging Li-Po batteries! It might be rare that they get punctured in the case (the case is designed to be flat and gentle around the battery) but IF the battery bulges too much and gets punctures it WILL result a exploding fire which IS very dangerous. So even if it is unlikely ALWAYS let someone take care of the bulging battery right away!
@jarnovilen52593 жыл бұрын
And always choose original OEM battery if possible. It is always the most safe choice and also the quality, capacity and durability are on a another level than in cheap 3rd party batteries. The price difference rarely is that big. 40 punds wasted is much worse than 60 well spent.

I have an hp omen like this one with a problem on the hdmi port, what do i need to replace the port ?
@Adamant_IT4 жыл бұрын
That'll need de-soldering and a new port soldered on. HDMI ports are very tricky when you're learning, I struggle with them. I'd get an adaptor for the DisplayPort output and use that.

Just curious, is there a reason you didn´t calibrate the battery? My HP elitebook 8470p offers this option. Still using the original six cell battery from 2013 ant it runs about 90 min while surfing :).

It'll typically get a calibration from just getting used. But yea, never a bad idea if the laptop has a calibrate tool!

@@Adamant_IT You can calibrate the battery without a "calibrate tool." Just charge to 100% and continue charging for 2 hours more. Then, run the computer on battery power only until the computers shuts off. (Turn the screen brightness up, turn off screen dimmers, and set not to sleep or hibernate so the battery drains as quickly as possible.) Then, just charge the battery fully one more time.

Hello I have the same pc and it happened to me so I use it without any battery but it isnt my main focus because my pc turns on but nothing shows up on the display. Does any body knows where the cmos battery is,I think that resetting the bios would fix my problem.

Hp omen owner here im wondering if its possible to remove battery and still use the loptop its that possible?
@Adamant_IT4 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can remove or disconnect the battery. If the battery is still in good health, drain it and recharge it once a month to maintain it. It's staying plugged in _all the time_ that kills laptop batteries.
