Dell Inspiron with a broken power button today. Soldered the button back onto the PCB, and then did some preventative maintenance around the cooling system where an old liquid spill might cause problems down the line.

Today I worked on an Inspiron 3168 that had the power button completely missing from this three-button PCB. So I desoldered the down-volume button, and moved it to the power-button position. I am amazed that it actually works! Thanks @Nethesem !

Smashing repair :-D I hate the manufacturers using only solder to hold buttons and sockets down. i have often placed a blob of hot glue behind the button to give it more strength. Handy for keeping laptop power sockets moving. (Weak plastic cases).

Thanks for the video, but I think you should really change the tip of your soldering iron or use a tip refresher that would remove the corrosion from your tip. Solder should "wet" around the tip not collapse to a ball :)

I like to use foaming glass cleaner (Bon Ami power foam specifically) for safely removing baked on/in coffee areas. I had a laptop with so much coffee baked in , the blue PCB was brown to black . nothing was doing a good job , so i figured what's the harm . It removed coffee in seconds. I'm not sure what part of it made such a great solvent so I went back over with alcohol to clean possible residue . Great videos m8.

I would recommend a pointed angled tip as a general tip when doing smd and fine stuff. Those switches are the cheapest mini switches you can get and need some force to action them; Dell could have used better switches. As usual everything is done to maximize profits; rather fed up with this regarding HP laptops and I have switched to Lenovo. Anyhow great video and thanks for posting it.

little more cleaning the pcb and the oxidated soldertip will provide a better fluent solder. I like to solder on high temperatur too, but that can be hard for the tip when the standbytime is set too long. But anywhere,... the solution count👍👌

Sound advice @14:40 : the number of times I've had the black bar on zif connectors disintegrate (usually on tablets.. They almost go to "powder puff".

The reasons why a lot of those connectors and especially imacs just crumble is due to heat.... it makes the already cheap plastic brittle.

good job but I think I'd struggle too with that soldering iron tip your using, maybe think about another tip, and I know, sometimes you work with the one you like even when it's the wrong one but I think it might help

Yea switching out to the conical tip probably would've made it easier. My main enemy here was that I prioritised the camera over my own access, so I was working cack-handed.

Personally I would opt for a 2-3mm chisel tip. You keep the maneuverability of the conical and the ability to conduct heat better. Best of both worlds.

I had a Dell laptop with the same chassis and was returned 6 times in the first year due to faults. Eventually the only thing remaining from the original laptop was the bottom chassis piece. Not a fan. Also the cooling is inadequate

Logitech BRIO in 1080p 60fps mode. Webcams _can_ make good cameras, they just need a lot of light to make up for the small lens/sensor. In return you get absolutely wild macro capabilities.

Hi, I like your vids and teaching "how to"s Keep it up pls. I have a problem on my MSI laptop. It was working well, suddenly it shutdown. I powered up again, after few min it shutdown again. I thought there might be overheating or battery or charger problem. I check them all, I tested with brand new charger. No luck. Interesting thing is when it power down charger light also went down. it come up again after few seconds and computer can be powered up. After few min it shutdown again. time difference between two shutdown getting shorter and shorter after each shutdown. If I wait few hours before power laptop, computer can stay on longer. Could you please tell me what is causing it? I want to fix my laptop. Thanks.

Still sounds like overheating. You might have what I call 'flash overheating'. CPUs can change temperature from room-temp to 100c within a second, so you check the temps while it's on, and they look fine - but the moment that the laptop starts doing something, the CPU 'flashes' up past 100c and cuts out. This is usually caused by the cooler not seated correctly, or thermal paste that has dried and cracked. Try replacing the thermal paste!

This is a good shout, it's ground all around the switch, so a little bit of sanding to uncover the ground plane would give me something to solder the side-anchors to. I think the front ones will be enough. I've done this method of 'blob solder to re-enforce' before and not had any problems with it yet.

Never blow on a solder joint!! It makes for a cold joint. always allow joints to cool with time....

can't see a puff of air making much diffs, maybe a quench. Colds joints as I know hem come more from movement when cooling.

Your not very good at soldering....Solder flows to heat, so heat the pad and then apply solder. The solder will flow where you need it.

@@Adamant_IT no man you clearly don't have a lot of experience doing this stuff... Firstly the flux was already burned away was part of your problem second of all you need your iron tip to be touching both the pad and the side of the unit and if that didn't work means your iron wasn't hot enough to heat up the ground planes and/or the metal housing of the button enough to let it flow properly. That was a horrible job soldering and you may have compromised those joints. It annoys the hell out of me if your STILL trying to push the solder in the spot you want it which you where clearly doing at one point it doesn't matter what excuse you use it means you dont understand the basics of soldering. When techs say it's ok doesn't have to be perfect its when the joint is soldered together and doesn't look the greatest ie isn't nice and shiny but it's still a solid joint. Pushing a solder blob to where you want it does not constitute as a solid joint lmfao. Little hint if its sticking to everything and isn't a shiny blob means YOU NEED MORE FLUX. Yet your on KZbin trying to come off as a authority on this subject... This kind of crap goes to the customer they get pissed off at independent repair centers and then dont trust them... Dude seriously if you can't even solder wtf are you doing these kinds of repairs..... Myself and other people who have been doing this since Louis channel was first created are now having to fix screws ups because of people who refuse to learn the basics or start repairing customers stiff when they shouldn't and giving us all a bad name. This kind of crap really pisses me off and yeah it's a simple thing but if you can't even get a simple thing right I know what the rest of your work is like....

@@Adamant_IT Also to reinforce the buttons I would have also added some hot glue after resoldered them to add more strength. Hot glue is very handy in many ways just dont listen to certain youtubers who claim its great for laptop hinges........ ;)

Why didn't you ise some thermal compound on the second chiplet just at the bottom of the cpu? Didn't it deserve some care too?

That one's being covered by the thermal pad on the heatsink. Usually I'd paste both, it's uncommon to see a thermal pad on the iGPU.

The chip will be flat on top... If I had to guess, I'd say the heatsink was designed for a different CPU with a monolithic die (rather than the two dies on this chip) and the designers found that if they stuck a thermal pad on the end, they could reuse it with this CPU as well. One less new part to redesign and manufacture.

I absolutely love the look of that case, but I can see zero venting to the front panel... Any case with a solid front panel will have some issues, but that case looks like zero effort made. Which makes me very sad, because there's lots of other parts of that case that I really like the look of.

It varies depending on what I feel the device needs, but my main bullet points are: - Clean up virus/junk/spyware (this machine actually had the Segurazo virus, which is a nasty one) - Prevent apps running on startup that don't need to run on startup - Tidy up windows layout, so start menu, desktop icons, etc - Install windows updates, ensure running the latest build - Tweak some windows settings for storage/performance (page file, system restore, etc) - Defrag if HDD, resolve any other issues the customer has mention, or that I spot

Y have so much problem with soldering because the temperature of your soldering iron is too low. The TS100 you are using isn't very good for soldering elements with for example metal casing like switch. When you touch tip of your soldering iron to this type of object they take a lot of heat from it. This soldering iron isn't extremaly efficient.

Your welding skills are bad. You use too little flux. The solder tip is too old, it does not transfer heat well.
