everything about the redesign is okay, but the eye-arches got to stay. it's what gives richard's face "menace" and expression. without it, he looks like he's made of dough.

I'm frankly just glad to see more Richard. I'm fine with the redesign, but he gotta have some eyearches or something, its how he gives his sassy faces. Them sassy faces is the best.

Unless the result is a very very very good full feature series I would reconsider the redesign. It would be fine for silly shorts but it subtracts from the character. And if it was a full feature series i guess funding wouldnt be the main issue. The simplification of cartoons in the last decade is not anything to embrace

I don't think he's doing anything with the movie/series idea anymore. I'm not even sure if he intended to make them at all. From the "This is War" kickstarter alone, he made almost enough money to do both it and the pilot episode based on the goals he created for them. The "This is War" campaign only needed $14,000 but it got $132,640. The pilot needed $196,595 and got $68,452. If he had put the leftover money from "This is War" into the pilot/movie like he said he was going to and asked for less money to make the pilot (by which I mean not just less than the goal but also less than people actually pledged to it) he would have had more than enough to make both "This is War" and the pilot plus he would have had a good amount of money left over. Either it was a scam or he's just terrible with money. I hope it's the latter but you can never be sure with Kickstarter campaigns. I wonder if the pledgers ever got their money back for the pilot and what happened to the $118,640 leftover from "This is War" that was supposed to be used on the movie/pilot?

A bit too cheap and simple for my taste. It is also missing some of his features (green tatoos...) I dunno, he just feels so bland and tame now. Lost a lot of personality.

Not a huge fan, but I understand it's more practical. Maybe keep the eye arches like someone else said? It takes away from the design's personality if they're not there, or make the eyes bigger and more expressive?

Just got around to watching this. Sorry to say it, Sohmer, but this feels like a step backward. Richard should look sharper, not softer, and he's expressionless without the eye arches. Put the old Richard next to the new one, and you should be able to see that this looks like a downgrade. :( I'm as excited for an LFG animated series as anyone, but if this is what it would look like, may I recommend going back to the drawing board?

I dislike the current cheap animation thrend. I understand why one would chose it, after all a lot of half decent show used that trope as a marketing argument, but none the less, producing arts that is inferior to what you were doing ten years ago seem counter intuitive. I still like this guy tough.

Okay, I'll be honest. I do not like this redesign. It looks cheap. Really cheap. Maybe I'm just too used to seeing Richard in his, I guess, "original look". I got bored of LICD a while back, and if this is the way LFG is going to go, I'm out. Sorry guys, this just isn't my jam, anymore.

From a design and animation perspective, Richard looks great. On his own, it is easy to distinguish him from the background. But in an animated series, Richard will often find himself interacting with other characters and will very likely be overlapped with some detailed background, like people crowds. A simple thicker outline would make him stand out, and it will also define his lines of action better. To push it even further, some tweeners (distortion and bone-breaking frames) would make the animations smoother and more fluid. Check out McCree's POTG rolling animation from Overwatch. There is a very weird looking frame where he is super distorted, just to REALLY sell that barrel roll. It's one frame and it does the job so well. --- I've been reading your LFG comic since page 32 was released, and you've grown so much. I can't wait to see what you do with the animated series.

The last video of our man rip, I haven't read the comics in years but lfg used to be super important to me I remember what feels like ages ago binge reading the whole series up to Aug of 2010 the night before my first day of high school and regardless of status I'm still waiting for origins of dick. And did the top down game ever get made? (Edit I can't find anything about the lfg game I know I saw a trailer for so either I'm getting Mandela effect'd or it's been wiped but I clearly remember seeing something about it and getting pumped at like 15-16 but that was 12ish years ago so idk)

Horrible. The reason I have loved your comics for so many years (LFG, LICD, I even liked NPC till you killed it) is that you give the characters a depth and charm of personality and the animation style reflected it. Now with this redesign (extreme downgrade) it is like a child was asked to draw a 'friendly skeleton', and that kid had just finished watching Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. I get that you need something simpler that can be easily articulated in animation, less facets means less trouble when changing perspective on the character, but doing it with such a huge loss of character and turning it into some amorphic white blob... It really just looks cheap and nasty now. If you are wanting to impress in a world that includes Disney, Pixar or even Madman this is not going to get you there. You need to start out with something complex and detailed first to show off what you are capable of, then do a downgrade on some other project AFTER showing off your skills. Starting off the blocks with something that looks like it was animated in flash player is REALLY not going to set you apart from the other animators out there. If an artists portfolio was nothing but stick figures even though they promise they can draw real/still life, they are not going to get the job. On the other hand, if an artist shows a portfolio with detailed works of art but says they are willing to downgrade to stick figures to match the clients budget or need, that would be fine.
