Chicago Cubs fan here-I never thought the Cubs would win a World Series in my lifetime. After the Steve Bartman incident, I genuinely believed the franchise was cursed and didn’t think I could bear to watch another game. Then, in 2016, I got to see them finally do it. There’s nothing like it. I’ll remember exactly where I was, who I was with, and how I felt for the rest of my life. If the Leafs lose on Monday, it will just make the moment sweeter when it finally comes. I know it’s hard to think like that right now, but I thought maybe a little empathy from a fellow human who cheers for a perennially “unlucky in the post-season” franchise might help provide a little perspective. Let’s go! Leafs in 7.

"What would you change?" Honestly, at this point, the one thing I would change is ever becoming a Leafs fan. I've never been so close to crying during a hockey game before this. Being a Leafs fan is like being in a toxic relationship. Being a Leafs fan is setting yourself up for disappointment and heartbreak. At this point, man, i'm angry and sad and all of the above and I know there's no point. I had this underlying numbness and lack of hope settling in my heart as soon as Montréal scored those 2 goals in the first. I can't even begin to explain how frustrated and depressed I am because of this. I've dedicated all my life to this team. It's a toxic and vicious cycle of loyalty and commitment that I can't help but feel will only lead to being disappointed over and over again. I don't know whether these feeling's are towards this hockey team, or myself for still blindly believing in this hockey team. I'm just so tired.

I'll make you a guarantee, the Leafs will never win a Stanley Cup again. Yes technically you can argue they have a chance every season, but I'm telling you this now as honestly as I can. It's NEVER going to happen. This isn't like the Red Sox, this isn't like the Cubs, this isn't like the Cavaliers, this isn't like Liverpool FC. I moved to the GTA from the US in December and my roommate is a Leafs fan. Being a Sabres fan, I have a unique and deep understanding of unending disappointment and disbelief your team can give you. I wish I could say something to reassure you, but I can't. I have watched most of the Leafs games this season with my roommate, partly in support of my roommate, partly because it was nice to watch hockey that didn't make me want to fling myself off the CN Tower. I've realized that I have affection for a lot of the players because when I do, I refer to them by their first names like we're pals. I have always loved John Tavares, so rooting for him is no chore. Watching this has been brutal and it's not even my team (and my team is basically the very definition of brutal). One of my favorite players to watch on the Leafs is Marner and he IS KILLING ME. Mitchie, buddy, I can't lose more players to misery. I have enough of that in Buffalo, you gotta find yourself, my dude. This series is giving me serious flashbacks to the last time the Sabres were in the playoffs and they had the series in their hands and TOTALLY BLEW IT. Anyway, we enjoy your videos a lot and not just when you freak out. I really appreciate your approach to the sport. If I ever see you in the "wild", your coffee is on me.

I’ve just read through the hundreds of comments, and I feel the need to comment again. I’ve been a leafs fan since the day I could walk, I watched them win the Stanley Cup through my childhood, and I was AT the 1967 Stanley Cup game and watched the Stanley Cup being brought out on the ice. The glow of its beautiful silver was something I had never imagined, and it was a fantastic thrill and privilege to be at that game. Like all Leafs fans from that era, we got used to the leafs winning the cup. And then it started, the long slide into the abyss of futility. There were highlights throughout the last 50 years, and I do believe the 1993 team was robbed, by Kerry Fraser, and a league that didn’t want two Canadian teams in the final, despite the fact that it was the hundredth anniversary of the Stanley Cup and it would’ve been two original six teams playing off for the last time for the cup. But I’ve never wavered in my loyalty to my team. Yes it’s been frustrating, yes it’s been agonizing at times, and game 7’s have been excruciating-but I never lose my allegiance to the Leafs. It’s in my blood, I bleed blue and white, and they are my team. I’m not a Johnny come lately to the event, I’m not somebody who’s going to switch allegiances or give up, because no matter how good or bad the season is, they give me relief and respite from the day to day monotony of life, (especially during covid) and it’s good to have something to be passionate about. I want them to win on Monday, I will be watching the game and I’ll be cheering my boys every step of the way. If they lose I’ll be terribly sad, again, but I will not give up on them. And I hope you don’t either, Steve. I love your broadcasts, I love your passion, I love your humour and your great hockey sense, and I really think you add a lot to the family of the Toronto Maple Leafs. So, go Leafs go! Let’s win it, put away the curse, and move forward and go deep where we were meant to go all along.
