I’m still scratching my head that they protected Justin Holl Instead of keeping their potentially 30 goal scorer who is now in Seattle. I think pretty much everyone called in a piss poor move as soon as we all saw it, as predictable as Toronto is, they have one of the worst defensive seasons and some of the worst team save percentage in NHL history over the last four months, doesn’t really shock me.

It's no coincidence that Muzzin comes back and the Leafs roll the old top 4 D pairings that were blowing big leads left and right 2 months ago and immediately blow a big lead. Go back and watch the last 2 Panthers goals in regulation...Holl and Muzz are on the ice and both times Muzzin was alone behind the Leafs net while multiple Panthers were playing catch and shoot in front of Campbell. Lybushkin and Rielly were working so well together because Boosh just sits in front of campbell and clears the net while Rielly roams around. They need Lybushkin on the ice he's the only one that clears the net for them.

I said it in last nights LFR. Holl should sit. Rielly/Lybushkin, Brodie/Muzzin, Gio/Liljergen. Holl and Muzzin should never be a pair and should probably never be in the line up at the same time when everyone is healthy. Too many better options to have both in. I sincerely hope Keefe was just giving Lybushkin the night off and doesn't actually think Holl or Muzzin is a better option.
@whoopass2rb2 жыл бұрын
TL;DR: I don't think Hall is top 6 in your org anymore. I think he's the 8th defensemen on this list and we decided to place him in against the 2nd best team in the NHL with pulling out arguably our 3rd best d. Hard to justify the action. Details: I'm right there with you on that, I spent a while looking at this from a mobility VS grit look: This one is mobility from left to right (most to least): Sandin, Reilly, Liligren, Brodie, Hall, Lybushkin, Muzzin, Gio. I'm being generous, it might be Gio then Muzzin but Muzzin just got back from injury, might take a bit to get his skating legs. Here's the same concept but for grit (in terms of moving bodies): Lybushkin, Muzzin, Gio, Lilgren, Sandin, Hall, Brodie, Reilly. This list I'm way more skeptic off, many out there could change my mind on a couple positions in the order. But what matters is how this all looks: Reilly (S2, G8) with Lybushkin (S6, G1) is a great "sword and shield" as Dangle puts it. Muzzin (S7, G2) with Brodie (S4, G7) is an ok "sword and shield" Gio (S8, G3) with Lil (S3, G4) is a good "sword and shield" as we've seen. What we had last night: Reilly (S2, G8) + Brodie (S4, G7) - No shield Muzzin (S7, G2) + Hall (S5, G6) - No real sword Gio (S8, G3) + Lil (S3, G4) - Good. Objectively, that 2nd pair is just bad. Hall is mediocre in terms of strengths / weaknesses compared to the rest of the group. Why? Because while everyone else has a relatively good strength as either being gritty or being mobile, paired with a weakness of the other option, Hall is just mediocre at both this season. What's worse is in doing the pairings like that, you're forcing a pair of Reilly + Brodie, which we can clearly see will not have the grit to remove a body from the front of the net. Hence why you get a game where if teams are willing to go to the dirty areas, they will score and plenty. I think the Reilly + Brodie combo is great, for a specific purpose. You put them out for particular game situations and they will thrive. Defending the front of the net is not that. What makes this even more interesting is the thought of Sandin (S1, G5) getting in. The challenge for him is he's not going to replace Muzzin, his best comparable to replace would be Reilly but he's not replacing him (nor should he, Reilly is your #1 D). So the person you look at is Gio and I'm not sure you do that to pair with Lil. Rough spot, specially considering Sandin is probably one of Toronto's better D, he just doesn't have the experience to command the spot yet.
@markshannon92602 жыл бұрын
@@whoopass2rb Sandin can be a backup in the playoffs. You'll always need extra in playoff hockey.
@whoopass2rb2 жыл бұрын
@@markshannon9260 Oh I don't disagree. I just feel bad because I think Sandin probably fits as a #3 on your depth chart. He should be your 1-2 punch after Reilly + guy. But he doesn't bring enough grit to warrant removing Muzzin; not yet at least. With Gio, I think there's something to be said about experience, which he has the most of and it's very much rubbing off on Lil. But you're 100% right, come injury time in playoffs, Sandin should be first choice to get in.

Holl has to be the odd man out. Brodie and Muzzin, try it. Don't break up Gio and Lily. Put Boosh back with Reilly, they worked fine. Muzzin needs a breakout guy, and someone reliable. Can't win them all and to get outta Florida with 3 of a possible 4 points is still not bad even though they should have had that game locked down.

You're awesome Steve. Bruins fan here, 100$ on the leafs to get to the final, and beat the Avs. Hell of a team this year.. truly. But if it's B's laughs in the first round this year, you know.... YOU KNOW....... SORRY

I predict keefe will do the same shit he always does n keep holl n muzz and end up benching lilly

Toronto doesn’t even need Jake Muzzin anymore, they were playing like world beaters without him. I knew as soon as he got back into the lineup and got put back on the line with Justin that this game was going to be a choke job, so predictable.

@@Troy2Slick keefe criticizes boosh for his play in Tampa and he gets benched. Holl n Muzz have been dogsh*t all year yet he plays them constantly. Getting real sick of keefe and him playing favorites and costing the team points.

As a Panther fan, i wish they were as efficient on ST as the Leafs. The Leafs are as effective on ST as the Lightning were last season which is what doomed the Panthers. Quick pass shoot. Panthers forget that last part.

Definitely. We have a TON of playmakers and no shooters. Barky trying to be the one.

Ngl this game was one of those game that made me ignore the stats leaf hater would say to me. Like “oh you guys blew yet another 5-1 lead” and my instant response was “What? Did you expect a guy coming in from a game against tampa to have a shut out against the best offense in the league after they started heating up? They got 3 of 4 points, Worry if they look bad after this” This game was really fun to watch and still gives me hope in ways as a leaf fan

Steve, can you DM me when "the feeling" starts to seep in? I'd love to make some serious bank off of Leafs blowing 5-1 leads in the future.

I ask this question, "are Leaf fans confident with Campbell/Kallgren duo in goal to start a playoff series ?? And this constant softness in front of their own net! Not a good combination to hang your hat on in playoff hockey. Steve is right, the demons are still about!
@Troy2Slick2 жыл бұрын
No, they won’t get past the first round having subpar goaltending and Jake Muzzin and Justin Holl playing together. They’re toast.
@jaym83462 жыл бұрын
Fine with Campbell he was a 9.34% and 1.88ga last playoffs. Its keefe, holl and muzz im worried about.
@lukefimio8592 жыл бұрын
@@jaym8346 I actually think Keefe "Coached" them out of a win last year against the Habs, when he sat Sandin directly after a big Win in which he scored a huge powerplay goal, so that he could keep Dermott in circulation. Stop tinkering goddamnit and let your team get chemistry.

Funny how you brought up that stat of the Leaf record versus East teams currently in the playoffs. Would love to see what the Leaf record has been against East non-playoff teams since Feb. 1 LOL And a gentle reminder, that the Leafs are playing the Habiturds this weekend 😆
@slipperynodd5782 жыл бұрын
For the full season they are 7-5-0 against the 4 bottom Atlantic(Montreal, Ottawa, Red Wings and Buffalo), since February 1st they are 1-4-0 against the same teams. They play Montreal on Saturday and Buffalo on Tuesday
