I got the GL850 after testing 7 Monitors and returned them all, it has the best colors, best performance. it is just amazing. My test were all on IPS Monitors but this Nano IPS is in another level. based on my tests it has the best colors between IPS monitors, for me the blacks are OK. if you want very deep black the IPS is not the solution , but if you want extreamly vibrant and live colors the GL 850 is the best choice. also it has a bit light bleeding but differs from unit to unit and it is normal on IPS panels.

Purchased this earlier this month, and I guess I lucked out with the panel lottery since I ended up with great uniformity. Hard to know what my exact contrast is without measurement tools but it seems to handle dark scenes... alright, for an IPS monitor. More than all of this however was the price, at $499 pre-tax it felt like the most sensible purchase to make while the higher-end market seems to be experiencing a very pricey identity crisis. I think it would be best to wait for some emissive-pixel technologies before making such a substantial purchase, which makes this monitor make even more sense while waiting for the top end of the market to actually create a product worth investing in.

I did buy this monitor and received it this weekend. I am upgrading from the LG UM67 29UM67 which I purchased in 2016. To me this monitor is a very good improvement over all and the 144Hz refresh is very nice in game. I have noticed some slight ghosting or artifacting in Counter-Strike Source around the models. I have tried changing various settings to reduce the effect, but so far it remains. I am pleased, but I think with the smaller size, lack of ultrawide and the minor issues in one game so far I would have like to see the price around $350-$399.

I believe the LG has been updated and the Dell has also gone IPS in the form of the 2721DGF, so would love to see a shoot out between those. It only has 2 minor problems. One is that it is expensive, which can't be helped for a monitor of this quality. The other problem is the space it takes up on my desk because of the display stand's size. The upside of the stand's design is that it is stable and won't topple over from light impact to my desk.

As a Gamer who plays FPS, Story games etc. you pretty much have to go with a IPS Panel... Or if you spend lots of money for a monitor you coould get a good VA Panel (which costs a lot) with good blacks, good response time etc. but it will still have downsides. So for a budget one or lets say a reasonable price you have to get a IPS and accept the fact that your blacks will more look like dark grey... But Imagewise the LG is a really good TV, response time is great, input lag really low and has 144hz wqhd IPS Panel What do you need more? Forget HDR right away cause there is no reasonable prives monitor with good hdr anyway... So say bye to hdr and bye to contrast when buying a monitor which isn´t 600$+... And do not forget that no matter how much mone you spend on an monitor, there wont be such thing as the perfect monitor... You will always have to sacrifce something.

chg70 is crap for fast paced gaming, va panel = sluggish, blurry and extremely bad transistion speed especially w2b and b2w. the only thing va has going for it, is the contrast ratio. everything else is subpar. va is insanely bad for fast paced gaming, even with 144 hz or more and black frame insertion. it's simply the slowest panel. va is much better suited for tv and console use.

I've just used a TN panel a couple of years ago. Right now I work on my laptop and am planning to buy a monitor. My friends suggested me to look for IPS, and GL850 was most recommended everywhere. I'm looking for both gaming and a bit of creative work. I read that its contrast ratios aren't great, and a lot of backlight bleeding. Would you still recommend this in 2020? There aren't many good gaming monitors available, here in India (in this price range)

I don't want things to constantly move around. Having a consistent layout means I know exactly where to go for what I want. The whole sorting order addition is unnecessary and just feels annoying for readers who have a more academic interest in checking out the reviews and aren't necessarily looking to buy any of the products. I wish there was at least an option for us to go back to the previous layout where everything stayed in the same place and properly categorized rather than shuffled together based on the current sorting order.

You know, Sony makes regular LED TVs that have no backlight bleed and near perfect black levels and contrast. How come there isn’t 1 gaming monitor on the market that doesn’t have horrible glow and bleed? They say VA panels are best, but no, they’re just like bad edge lit cheapo TVs, which I suppose is technically better than an IPS in dark scenes but I mean come on man. Why is the icc profile in your review so small? Is this really a complete profile? Tell me one more thing. Is it so bad with black color as some people say? Can it be recommended for purchase as the first monitor 27 ` 2560x1440? This is very important for me.

If it's for games, Prepare for a lot of fiddling game files to get it to display correctly, Black bars in cut scenes and sometimes game glitches on the sides. I was looking into getting one as well but after reading other comments off different forums I am having second thoughts on ultrawides, Not 100% supported yet in games.

For whomever writes the captions: The word "it's", with the apostrophe, always means "it is" or "it has". Somewhat unintuitively, "its" is the possessive form, even though it lacks the usual possessive apostrophe. (spotted the error around 8:20)

When will we get a OLED monitor with around 700-800 nits peak brightness.. also 144hz 1440p with gsync, that would be the holy grail of displays.. (yes I know about LG's latest OLEDs have pretty much everything I mentioned, but I need a 27" monitor not a 55" TV, I already do have a c9)

Got this from Costco at 250. And I really like it haven't really played much on it yet. But I check some KZbin hdr context and I think the colors looked amazing. Coming from a 1440p ips I really like this much better.

On LG site it says it can do 144hz over HDMI but the review says it will only do 100hz. Just bought the monitor and haven't tested yet. I plan to connect my laptop to it and run it as an external display.

SO just set monitor up and it really can only do 100Hz over HDMI. Severely disappointed given the fact my laptop only has HDMI so cannot get the full performance of the monitor.

@@RTINGSdotcom That's a shame, in my country this model has just been released and the problem with this guy is its price, the Acer above is nearly half the price, the Aorus is 1/10 cheaper and the new Asus VG27AQ is also at 2/3 the price.
