The 29WL500 is basically the same except it adds HDR10 support (not real HDR as it doesn’t get bright enough or cover the Rec.2020 color space, just simulated HDR like the 29WK600). Dimensions are the same as the WK500 and can be found here: www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-29WL500-B-led-monitor

Hello sir, thank you for your video, really high-quality review and I enjoyed it! I am deciding between this and 29wk600. I don't play games, so the major differences are brightness (250nits vs 300) and 29 euros. But I don't know if 250 nits enough. My laptop apparently has ~220 nits, I use 100% brightness (I sit close to the open window but without direct sunlight) and in some rare cases, when I watch movies with dark scenes, I can feel I need more brightness. But you said that even in the daytime you have 60% of brightness, which surprised me. I googled this question but got controversial answers: some (mostly desktop users) say that 120-150 nits are enough, others (mostly laptop users) say that 250 is minimum. In my country, 29 euros is big for a student and I am ordering the monitors from abroad
@Tech2Papa5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback! If you want to use me as a reference, my monitor has a max brightness of 326 nits (according to Rtings) and you can check out how bright my monitor looks (at 60% of 326 nits which is around 200 nits) and how my setup is positioned relative to the window by going to my old ultrawides video at around 1:19 - kzbin.info/www/bejne/fqKqlH57asdlg6M Honestly though, I'm not sure if it's bright enough without looking at your setup. How well you can see things on your screen also depends on a whole bunch of factors besides peak brightness, such as screen size, distance from your eyes to the screen, color reproduction, contrast, angle of incidence/reflection of light, type of screen coating (matte or glossy) and even the picture quality of the movies you watch. The 29WK600's brightness is around 20% more than the 500's. That isn't a major difference but it should be noticeable. Whether that's worth the 29 euros is up to you. Then again. the 29WK500's brightness is around 14% brighter than your laptop's screen so it may be enough. Finally, the reason for the disparity of answers given is that desktops are stationary so you'll only have a constant and controllable indoor light source (with some indirect sunlight at the most) which isn't too bright to prevent seeing your content clearly on a 120-150 nit screen. But laptops can be used anywhere (such as outdoors with direct sunlight), so a higher peak brightness is preferred just in case. If you want to send a picture of your setup privately, I can definitely provide a better answer. But for now, I'm really not sure. I hope this helps :)
@nurbolatkenzhekulov14695 жыл бұрын
@@Tech2Papa wow, thanks for the detailed reply! So if you set 60% of brightness on your brighter monitor, then I think I should go with 29wk600, because my room has a much wider window. And I guess, I can only be sure if I test both monitors in my room with my typical usage. Another reason I am leaning to the more expensive one is that my little brother just got a gaming laptop with DisplayPort, so he can utilize Freesync. I will give him this monitor after I finish college. (But now it means I have to be more creative in finding subsistence for the next 2 weeks :)

Dear bro.. well done.. liked & subbed.👍Assuming you've used both 29" 21:9 & 27" 16:9 screens. Does the 29" widescreen gives off a larger FEEL to it than the standard 27" while tasking and consuming media, although it's got less vertical working space and the difference in surface areas are negligible? Can you please share your experience?
@Tech2Papa2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! When consuming media it’ll generally feel smaller since most media is in 16:9, which means you’ll essentially be watching on a 24” 16:9 monitor. But for productivity, it’s no contest. The 29” will feel larger and will allow for better productivity. You can compare it to working on a desk. Would you want a deeper desk or a wider desk for productivity?
@virathiyam54012 жыл бұрын
@@Tech2Papa Thx bro.. I guess 21:9 on the 29" will still be larger and more enjoyable for movies if you watch movies in 21:9 ratio.. which most modern movies are..

Hi , im looking for some suggestions. I'm in need of ultrawide, 29inch will be a sweep spot for me. Concerns are - they are mostly available in 2560x1080 resolution giving out 96ppi. 1. Will that be easy on eyes ? 2. at arm's distance is text pixelated ?. Are you able to read text (for 6-8 hours a day) at that distance comfortably ? Also, i'll be using it in grayscale mode and in split screen. so what options do you suggest ? Should i go for VA (as major use wll be in monochromatic mode) or IPS. Budget is a concern. Also, typing this from 15 inch 109ppi laptop screen. so u have an idea of the kind of upgrade experience i can have.

Great review! I'm going to pick up this monitor and pair it with an RX 5700. Perhaps slightly overkill but I think that should make for a nice affordable gaming rig for a few years to come. Out of curiosity have you tried to overclock the refresh rate on this monitor at all? I'm fine with 75hz but I know some monitors can be overclocked as high as 90hz or even more, and that would make for a very awesome experience.
@Tech2Papa5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! That sounds like a great combo by the way, probably a bit overkill but then again, it gives you plenty of futureproofing so you can continue to play new games at UWFHD with high settings at 60+fps for a long time (plus it’s an AMD card so you can use FreeSync). About the monitor overclocking, I haven’t tried it before but I already gave the monitor back so unfortunately I won’t be able to provide you with any results. Hope you enjoy the monitor though :)

Didn't know IPS wasn't true 8bit, haven't seen any other review ever mention 6+2 bit when it comes to IPS... Is this information true? I'm still unsure
@Tech2Papa3 жыл бұрын
A panel’s color depth (how many bits it uses to display colors) is not related to its type. That is to say, IPS or VA panels can be 8-bit, 10-bit, etc. It just depends on how high-end the panels are. Being an entry level ultrawide, the IPS panel used in this monitor only supports true 6-bits-per-color with 2-bit FRC. My PG348Q (a high-end ultrawide) has a true 8-bit-per-color IPS panel with 2-bit FRC.

What is the text quality? I am a trader, and having clear text/charts is important for me.

Hey i know this is an old review but I was wondering if an adapter from HDMI to Display port work? To solve the G sync issue?
@Tech2Papa3 жыл бұрын
Sadly that won’t work. For GTX 10 series and up, you need a Displayport 1.2 connection to the monitor (so DP-out to HDMI-in using an adapter won’t work) for G-Sync compatibility, and the 29WK500 doesn’t have any Displayport inputs. For GTX 16 series and up, these can support G-Sync compatibility over HDMI, but only over the 2.1 standard (if the monitor natively supports variable refresh rates over HDMI as well), but the monitor only has HDMI 1.4 ports. Check bit.ly/2OvPKT8 for more details.

@@Tech2Papa hey thanks for reply! Yeah I was thinking of picking 1 up - along with trying the nvidia drivers to enable g sync and maybe purchasing a 2.1 HDMI cord separately. But if you tried the nvidia g sync drivers with the HDMI 2.1 then I really guess it’s not supported. I was reading that even if it didn’t say not official, there can still be a chance to work. Oh wait the model number is newer released this year 29WL500-B from bestbuy. Would that be the same? I was thinking maybe the monitor HDMI could be 2.0 version?
@Tech2Papa3 жыл бұрын
If you really want to try G-Sync compatibility, you’re better off going with the 29WN600. This has a DisplayPort 1.4 port in addition to the two HDMI 2.0 ports, which means there’s a real chance it could work without having to “hack” it, as it satisfies the base requirements for compatibility. It retails for 230USD on Amazon right now, so a pretty good value I think. Keep in mind this isn’t officially validated by NVIDIA as G-Sync compatible, but the monitor already supports VRR using FreeSync so it is worth a shot.

@@Tech2Papa wow its about 110$ more for pretty much the same monitor as the 29WL500-B thats on sale in canada at the moment. Guess I might go for 16:9 1080P with high refresh rate. The only other alternative I have is - once my preorder of 3060/ti card comes in.. trade it in for a 5700XT for 75hz.

Oh wow that’s a big difference! How about the 29WK600? It’s an older model released at the same time as the 29WK500 but comes with the DP1.4 port. It might be a better deal considering the 29WN600 is pretty much the same monitor.

Subscribed! I really liked the B roll for this vid and the dimension info. Would you recommend/review other alternatives for productivity (excel and office text needs to be clear from 2x arms lengtg) a d watching movies/kdrama? Thanks!
@Tech2Papa4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback :) Wow 2x arm length is quite a distance! But then again, you can easily enlarge text on a monitor to make it more readable from that distance. Do you have any other requirements (e.g. size/other areas of use)? Because for productivity and watching movies, I’d still recommend the 29WK500 or 29WL500 (new version of WK500 with added HDR10 support). The wider aspect ratio means you have more space to put windows, and many movies are shot in 21:9 (or close to it) which means they’ll fit your screen almost perfectly. If you want a bigger screen with similar productivity benefits (so you can fit more things on the screen at the same viewing distance and text size), a 34” ultrawide might be better (they are significantly more expensive though). Hope this helps :)

@@Tech2Papa thanks for the recs ! In hindsight, 2x arms length maybe kind of overkill haha. Im just considering if my eyes would be better off looking at a distance. Kinda scared if developing nearsightedness. Would 24 or 27in ultrawide be fine for regular arms length tho? I wish we in the Philippines had the same Amazon-level deals with tech stuff. For now, thanks for the suggestions. Definitely adding them to my list (Im also considering a 16:9 27in. Whatever fit better with my budget.) Looking forward to your tech insights/vids! 😊
@Tech2Papa4 жыл бұрын
Aw thanks :) In terms of physical size, a 29” ultrawide would be pretty similar to a 27” 16:9 (you lose width but gain height) so you could go with either. I’d still go with a 29” ultrawide given the choice (I just think a wider monitor’s space could be used better than a taller monitor) but a 27” 16:9 is still good if ultrawides are too expensive. I’d recommend a 1440p 27” 16:9 monitor as 1080p at that resolution doesn’t look very crisp because of the much lower pixel density.
