yep, I bought my lg ultrawide about a month ago on sale for 220 (it goes on sale often).. here is my criticism.. The plastic around the screen which i think is called the bezel or whatever, bends a very small amount on the bottom. It's not a huge deal, but it's the one thing about this monitor that could be considered a flaw. Everything else is great. If you're looking for a 29in ultrawide, it really is a great monitor. I sit maybe a foot and a half away, and it's unbelievably immersive when playing any game. honestly, if your at the $250ish price point, get this monitor. even if you're considering a budget 1440p or 4k, get this monitor. Oh, and you'll probably want to get a 1070, a 1060 may not be enough for some games, and probably many future games. If you have any questions, ask and i'll answer.
@mrman3168 жыл бұрын
250 or anything of that price point for a montior wouldn't be giving too much of a fuck about build quality.

@jakegarrett81098 жыл бұрын
Akmaisto Mods The cheapest I've found new ones were $220. Did you get that at a garage sale or from a friend? The monitors I'm running are 1280x1024 @ 75 Hz. I got them for $5 each at a thrift store. They definitely beat the 764x1280 (720p @ 60) TV I was running, that DPI was killing my eyes, it was like looking at traffic lights for pixels... I'm hoping to upgrade to 4k once maybe the 1080ti comes out (I hate all the reviews saying the "1070 or 980ti is good enough", well, yeah, for 30 FPS, but I would rather run my setup than go lower than 60 FPS, even that seems very low). If 4k comes out with 120 Hz for less than $400 (probably even $500), I would buy it in a heartbeat. Though I would do the same for a regular one under $100. You got really lucky to find one that cheap, kudos/congrats on winning that deal like a champ!

In your place i would be glad i have 16:10 for anything other than pure movie watching or video editing like shown in the video. I have Dell U2412M and i love it over the top. It`s a blessing for mixed office/administration workflow that i do. Vertical space is everything there. Once you want to get rid of your 16:10 sell it to me haha xD. I`m still crying that movie industry bullied us into adopting inferior 16:9 some years ago. 16:10 was heaven for any serious PC user. I˙m afraid that in 2-3 years i wouldnt be able to purchase any 16:10 mainstream display at all, they will probably leave only couple of professional 10 bit models which cost over $2000 :(.

a hidden benefit I found recently with my ultrawide while trying to play co-op split screen. In the past I normally split it top to bottom so you can at least have some peripheral vision. but found with the ultrawide to provide a pleasant experience when split side by side.

I have had the 29um57, near perfect sample as well with no yellow IPS glow and near no backlight bleed and it overclocked to 75hz with ease and wauw what a difference it made. No frameskipping or other issues. Overall i love the LG ultrawides, the coating is perfect, IPS is awesome for color and to an extend blacks and if you get a good panel gaming is really not bad at all. Also had a 34um68 and that puppy overclocked to 85hz.

I just recently got the 29UM58 from best buy for under $300 and noticed the 75hz/60hz issue. I couldn't get the screen to 75hz no matter what settings i used, the screen would flicker and shut off and on until the control panel would reset it back to 60hz. The solution was to put the hdmi cable into the bottom hdmi port.

Being new to the pc gaming world I must say I'm impressed with this monitor. It's so much better than previous ones I've used. This monitor even works great for console players, I play battlefield 1 on my ps4 every day, and I would venture to say playing on this monitor is better than playing on my bigger, fancier, more expensive TV. This is the first time Ive seen the 29" ultrawide with a square base. Sounds silly, but Ive been postponing the decision to upgrade from the 25" to a 29" because all bases at this size are v shaped and wouldnt sit well in my current monitor stand, which is very narrow. I ended up buying one of those vesa piston mounts with claws to push my 25" uw closer instead of shelving the cash for a 29" uw.

Mind you I do mostly web browsing, email, kids do school work etc., so light gaming.
@falcon95648 жыл бұрын
I got mine on Adorama for just $219. ;) The speaker is...ok, and you have several options in the 3D sound setting to choose from to change the sound stages. From my experience, I guess the only thing it does is to change the volume of Mids so that human voices could be more forward or backward. The overall sound pressure level can get really big, but the sound quality is no better than that from an iPad. But considering its price, I agree with what you said, it is good for what it does.

Another good option is the qnix qx27. Korean panel sold on ebay. I have bought 3 of them for myself and various friends with zero stuck or dead pixels (always a possibility) . Awesome panel and can overclock it. Mine can do 100hz and friends can do 75-90hz.theyre about 200-220. At least until 34" ultra wide go down. i have its small brother 25um57 , very good monitor. overclocked to 75hz, good viewing angle (color darken a bit vertically when i am laying in my bed and watching to the monitor that is higher in my desk), the stand is very basic but nice looking. its my first monitor with matte finish and i find the "dots" very disturbing when looking at whites, it seems like the monitor is dirty all the time. the resolution is the same as yours so i imagine it has better ppi since its smaller, i still remember how short it looked the first moment i saw it in person, i got used to the size in couple days though. aside from the "dirty" whites and some minimal light clouding on the left side in blacks, this is very VERY good monitor for the money. i hope more youtube creators use 21:9 resolution as it looks stunning :)

Because of the backlight bleed problem on today's monitors, I don't think I'm ever going to upgrade from my BenQ XL2420T to something higher res or with better color accuracy. Backlight bleed annoys the hell out of me, and it's impossible to get rid of on IPS panels.

Awesome review as usual Greg. A few serious questions~ (1)Should I/would you get something like this LG or is an affordable 40-50+ inch 4K TV a better use of money for value instead? It would be used for content creation/consumption and gaming but nothing too serious. (2) could I run, say a 3840 x 1600 resolution on said 4K TV somehow? Would a custom resolution setting like that work? also I would not be much bothered by the black bars much and would love to have so many resolution options on one Display. I have a 980ti btw and want to start making it stretch its legs. Really what I want is an X34 but that thing is still $1200+ Thanks!

What do you guys think, is it worth to spend a $100 extra to get from 29" to 34"? Same 2560x1080, same 99% sRGB color accuracy, same panel. The only difference would be that extra 15cm length and the adjustable stand. First I wanted the LG 24MP88HV-S, which has the same great screen for productivity and gaming (except the 75Hz and FreeSync) but the 29UM68 is only $30 more so it is obviously worth the upgrade.

Is it complicated to overclock a monitor refresh rate? And can you do it on any monitor? It's the first time I heard of that.
