I am still enjoying my 65in LG E6. The panel still looks great, I enjoyed watching Avatar 2 in 3d at home (haha), but the support of the onboard apps are long gone at this point. I like the idea of buying the latest apple TV, Roku Ultra, or shield to "keep my os up to date" whole still enjoying a viable panel. I also have employed a HD Fury from arcana to guve me a split earc and enjoy lossless Atmos with my sould system. The idea that we can extend the viability of these panel beyond their supported schedules is just great!

So I am fortunate enough to have both an OLED (LG C4 just got it) and a MiniLED (Sony X95L) TV in my house. I also use reference monitors for CG in my office. So my first thing is if you cannot control ambient light in the room go MiniLED. Even If you can control the light in the room The higher peak brightness of miniLED can really make the image pop in ways OLED can't. I don't feel like one is really better than the other but more that they both have drawbacks. OLED gets you deep blacks and Less blooming since you will always have some blooming due to the optics of your eyes. But you might get black crush and you aren't going to get the brightness of the MiniLED. MiniLED can have trouble with blooming but it is less susceptible to black crush and has a much higher peak brightness. For most people, I honestly think MiniLED is the way to go. Almost all the mastering is done using LCD. OLED reference monitors are really new not to mention they are kind of small and and really dim.

The whole which is better internal apps or AppleTV 4K as an example. That actually depends there has been situations where the DV looked better on internal apps. This is the whole "Player led vs TV led" HDR/DV. With AppleTV it might do the processing and the TV isn't as involved as much. The really important part would be for example Sony XR Clear. Does it work on anything. Meaning anything connected via HDMI or only on internal apps? If it only works on internal apps then it would be better to use them when streaming since you get the extra upscaling and cleaning of low bit rate content. Even 4K streams. I wish someone actually made a proper comparison. Side by side.

A consideration when choosing an external streamer vs the TV's built-in streaming app is, does the built-in app support all the channels you watch? For instance in the case of LG TVs: ESPN, PBS Passport, Criterion Channel & many other important channels are not supported. An advantage of a built-in app is, it frees up an HDMI port & the TV's remote is used during app navigation (one less remote!).

C3 C4 same brightness in 48 42, you only get boosted brightness on the c4 55 and up

@@beammeupscottsp7952 There's a few more benefits you get. Slightly lower latency, slightly better color volume, better sound, and 144hz mode. My friend informed he can force 132HZ on his 65inch C3. Is 120hz to 144hz a big difference? No, is it worth $300 more? Probably not at the 48 inch model. The 65inch model is a yes. Am I satisfied with my purchase? Yes! Side note. The green tint is semi noticeable at non useable angles if the background is mostly white or yellow. Darker colors I don't notice it, but this is my PC monitor. I'm heads up on it 99% of the time. You would have to purposely stand at an extreme angle to see it which is basically looking at the TV from the side.

The Bravia will be brighter and better for daytime and well lit environments, while the oled will be more accurate and better for darker rooms and movie watching. Also, oled quick response makes more sense for gaming. I think that oled can already get bright enough, or will be there eventually. Why bother with anything else? Streaming quality depends on codec and bitrate. Generally I don't think internet streaming will be better than a bluray anytime soon.

Plasma TVs were also dimmer, but contrast, deep blacks, and overall picture quality was so superior to anything on the market. My Panasonic VT25 is still rocking, in a quest bedroom to be fair, but for the first 8 years was in full use and I never had any issues with it. OLED to me is what plasmas were back in the day. I don’t care for too much brightness, but on these OLEDs, colours pop so much, I really don’t feel they are lacking any brightness (C3/4, G3/4, Bravia 8, Samsung OLED S90C/D I believe). Respect your purchase and don’t treat it like a Walmart Casio watch and it will last you a long time. Buy extended warranty for any lemon purchases and you won’t regret getting that crystal clear picture you get from OLED. Just my 2 cents. And yes, if you are looking to upgrade your 8-10 year old tv, buy a previous year model, it will be a huge improvement over your current tv and you’ll save a lot of money, or get more for your buck, like a bigger screen for the same price new models sell for in smaller screen size. Cheers

I haven’t watched the vid yet, but just from the intro, I can tell you I have had other issues besides basic picture quality with external streaming boxes compared to apps built in to the TV. We are having issues with our Apple TV 4K, where the KZbin app glitches on every single advertisement. The sound and video flash to black multiple times and some of the ad (and then some of the content after the ad) is cut off. It’s so jarring to watch, I’ve switched to the LG WebOS version since most of my watching is on KZbin. We’ve had plenty of other annoyances with the Apple TV recently as well. I love the platform though; I am just waiting for a new version to come out. Hopefully they’ll support 120 Hz refresh rate finally too.
@homebtsea7 ай бұрын
Is your Apple TV default video setting showing 4K HDR ( or 4K Dolby Vision)? That can cause the blackout screens on KZbin. Set the default video to 4K SDR and try KZbin again. The blackout screens are caused by the Apple TV converting non HDR signals to HDR. My first gen 4K ATV would do the same thing you described.
@michaelbraaten6 ай бұрын
@@homebtsea I figured it out shortly after making that comment. I have the Apple TV set for Dolby Vision, but so is my TV… I had the “match content” option checked in the Apple TV, and THAT was what was causing the blackouts.

Kudos for making a "Studio Apartment" look like a "TV Studio" by using the right lights & cutaways to illustrate your points. Small spaces with the right lighting take time to setup. Studio settings usually can leave lights in place. Viewers should know that when a show goes on location (remote), the crew size increases for the setup & knockdown. If it doesn't increase, you must pay for longer hours at a higher rate. Simple math vs keeping the cost of the "look" for viewers. Sometimes the look is a necessary sacrifice in favor of content. As you said, do you spend $1k+ more for a TV your eyes & ears will not actually see or hear!?

When I have it all hooked up through e-Arc I was told that no DTS signal will pass through the tv and I won't get any audio but I do get audio and it sounds pretty damn good. The soundbar though does not show DTS it shows multichannel pcm. So my question is: what sound am I getting? Is it the DTS sound? Or is it downgraded. If it is the DTS encoded sound with no downgrades will it be the same for a DTS X encoded track? Or am I losing quality by listing (well watching a blu ray more so than listening) this way? Seen a U8K and C3 in a 'normal' living room setting, haven't seen a U8N. That said, even with brightness taken into account, there's no contest - the C3 wins hands down; just has the wow factor. The U8K is great, but there's levels to the game here. At the same price point, unless your TV is set up facing directly into the sun for some reason, you'd go with the C3, unless the U8N is a dramatic upgrade.

I'd have to see for myself. The U8k can do everything according to Rtings at a high level. While you get an overall better picture with a C3. You don't have to worry about stutter or brightness levels as much with that LCD. Then if you want to buy a 77 or 85 inch tv you'll save thousands by getting the hisense. Unless the image is really overrated the hisense appears to be a better value.

I wouldn't suggest buying a 4K 65" TV for only $400. You would have to settle for a junk brand that won't look that good and won't last that long. If you have $1,000 to spend I'd definitely use the whole budget. Or even better, keep the plasma for a little while longer and save up more to get even better. Personally I'd go for a smaller size before I'd go for a low quality brand or lower end model.

Would love a Shield vs ATV comparison! One example of internal streaming apps giving [slightly] better PQ than an external device would be in the case of Sony TV’s from 2020 and earlier. Sony TVs for 2020 and earlier did not have “TV-led Dolby Vision” capability. They only have “player-led Dolby Vision”. TV-led DV is supposedly better for PQ. (One exception to the Sony 2020 lineup was the X900 H which received TV-led DV via a firmware update, but that set had other issues, like no smooth gradation setting.) so if you have a 2020 or earlier premium Sony set Dolby Vision content may look slightly better when using the internal apps, although most people wouldn’t notice unless you had two sets side-by-side.

Currently needing to move over from a 65 inch C7 due to burn in, i wont buy oled again due to this, the new LED's are getting so close with the blacks and are better proposition in my eyes as they wont have burn in issues

love your videos, I have a 48inch cx oled that just died. A really thin green line runs in the middle of the screen when I try to turn it on. I call lg and they referred me to a local shop in toluca lake for repairs. I had a sony trinitron that lasted over ten years and my oled lasted just over three years! suxs

I have two LG OLED TV’s and they are fantastic. I do not have a mini LED TV, but I do have a mini LED iPad Pro and I must say that the the picture on the iPad Pro is just about as good as the OLED TV’s that I have. The only difference is that on the iPad, if watching something say with stark white lettering on a black background, there is a faint glow around the edges, but you have to look for it to be noticeable in my opinion. If mini LED TV’s are as good as the iPad Pro, then I might would try a mini LED TV in the future. I have burnin on one of my LG TV’s and while it’s only seen on certain bright backgrounds such as red and orange, it’s not noticeable on anything else. With that said, burnin is still a bummer. I don’t know if the new OLED’s have solved this problem.

@@Shaken_AND_Stirred hey do u have light color eyes? Like blue , green etc? Apparenlty Pale eyes as they slightly getting older they are MORE prone to light sensitivity. The pale eyes are prone to be MORE sensitive to lights. Around 1/3 popultion will see deep grey as more pale grey, beidge as white. Then the 2/3 population will see deep grey as black. Some interesting science . Brown eye ppl will MOST Likely see Mini LED as _incky black. The Blue eye ppl are MOre likely to see MORE blooming in LED than ppl with darker eyes. I hear ya. I am medium brown eyes. (Most my Asian friends eyes Very DARK. My eyes always medium brown. I always have light sensortivitiy issue even tho I LOVE bright room, bright day. Even tho I am 20/20 vision) . Dude do u wanna go eyes checked? Hey if i sound rude. Its on me. Just looking out for u. My mom had Lasik, she is suffering issues now 10 yr later. My grandma had CATARACTs. That light sensitirivy can be early simpton of Cataracts. Its Apparently best detect early . I feel like douche bag now if cause concern. We all human being. Just want to show support. Its just TV but the Human is more imporant. :) NOT saying U need eye exam but AT least have eyes checked as “Baseline” n in CASE something something down the road, u can mornitor it. :):) thats important. @@Yoga_Tv_buying That is a VERY interesting observation you have laid out here and it is much appreciated! I have medium brown eyes and I’m 61 and as you noted, I see “inky blacks” both on my iPad Pro and my LG OLED TV’s. I did not know any of this. It’s quite interesting the info you have giving about peoples eye colors and what they perceive in viewing. I had considered LASIK, but after hearing some of the horror stories that people experienced down the road, I decided against it. Sorry to hear about your mom’s LASIK matter. And no, I did not think you were being rude at all. In fact, I thank you!

Oh, I guess i didnt explain abut the blue eyes/pale eyes why they see more Bright color. Like for example the Nordic n ppl with pale eyes, often they have MORE Nervs in Retina 👁️ dedicated for WHITE color. Due to like i guess they need other hunt n like sun goes down early in northern part of Earth. Just human revolution. They need to find their way back home in sunset 🌇 not lost in forest 🌳 etc. so as eyes age, if there is Regina issue, like if there other nervs for COLOR are damaged. So eyes see everything as white n bright. Often ppl have OLED think its so black. They watch TV in PITCH Black. Even an OLED is still very bright . Because TV is a--Light sourse , need to be treated as a LAMP/ light 💡. The THEATER room scren is NOT a light sourse. Its a FILM 🎥 screen that the LIGHT project on it n bounce on our eyes. MOST of ppl buy OLED will watch tv in PITCH black. It can still cause eye strain. Because to BIOLOGY, we are STARING AT a LAMP. Also the distance Mattrs. Because staring at a 30w lamp up on the face is not same as staring at 100W lamp on the street from 40 meters away when driving . I highly suggest u to get a like TV cart/with Wheels. Or maybe find way to set up TV to put it further in the ROOM. That it can let eyes able to watch more comfortably , also reduce any further aging related eye damange. Meanwhile. SET “COLOR” option in U8K all the way from (out of box 50%) to 70-80% it will have HUGE immediate differnce . Because i am just doing a guessing, because if u set U8K “Brightness” to Zero. It might not be the Brightness issue, maybe its the Color cells receptor on Retinna issue. And believe it or not, it would be MORE helpful if u get a warm night lamp at far end of room. Then having TV LED light strips, or lamp at Back of TV. So your eyes are staring at tv in a SUNSET 🌇 visual background than staring at a Harsh bright 💡 at pitch black. Our PHD professor explaiend to us the TRICKS. (How to see better in dark room watching tv.) when the room is luminated slightly than pitch black, your eyes can WELCOME in MORE light n more relaxed n see MORE color. So a LOT of dudes here ACTUALLY WATCHING TV like TRAINED by --GRANDIOCE KZbin uncle clubs that “OH I WANT theater ROOM EXP” n they are oging to Man club mock me because me went to science program will make the stash look like shi. A LOT of Gammeres Play Video Game in PITCH Black, staring at 27” 32” monitors even its NOT that bright, as 20 yrs from now, they can have all sorts of issues.

I thought Classy said the C4 was a significant upgrade from the C3? Especially with brightness gains.
@michael-4k40008 ай бұрын
No. Get the C3. In fact never ever get the current year OLED, unless they are offering some brand new tech like MLA. Otherwise the changes each year to the B/C are very small. Have a LG B7 that gets almost as bright as my C2.

It's true that OLED isn't the burn in risk it used to be. However, Caleb was just warning that certain users are still at risk if you're watching Fox News or CNN all day with the static logos and crawls 24/7. With my LG C1 65" OLED, I've had it over a year and a half with close to 8000 hours use and don't have any degradation that I've noticed. I also vary my content and when I do pause something for too long, my TV dims itself automatically.

How about Amazon Fire TV for streaming?
@joseherrera84892 ай бұрын
If you want to hook up a keyboard and mouse to your TV or watch your own BluRay rips, yes, the Shield is an excellent choice. If you want to actually use the streaming device to stream, then Apple TV wins. No contest. I have a house full of Shields, btw. I'm just sick of having to constantly reboot them to get them to work properly. Plus, newer apps are unwatchable on the Shield.

It doesn't cost the same in the US either. I don't know where that guy even saw that. The 65" C4 is still $1,000 more than the U88N here ($2,297 vs $1,297 CAD). In the US, it's $1,599 vs $899. I can't even find a C3 for sale anymore.

Why bother with 8K, it's gimmick at best. Human eye resolution pixel per degree is 60. Comfortable max FOV for human is 60 degree which translate to 60*60=3600 pixels smaller than 4K. Color accuracy, contrast and the ability to retain details in both end of brightness spectrum are what's important.

As does Best Buy -- until the end of today at least. I'm torn between this and the LG C3 -- leaning toward the latter, as I don't have an overly bright space and watch movies mostly, no gaming. OLED stutter does concern me, though.
