This video described just what needed to be done for our dishwasher which was exactly the same make and model. It saved me a lot of time. I added one extra step. I removed the drain hose from the disposal unit and used a wet n dry vacuum to draw all of the water out of the pump. Never had a drop of water to clean up. Thank you so much for taking he time to create the video.

Just wanted to thank you for posting a follow up video replacing just the pump and not the rest of the assembly. So much easier! I was about to pull out my whole dishwasher based on other videos that I’ve seen and then I ran across this one. So much easier and worked like a charm. Dishwasher is now quieter and no more OE errors. I did end up purchasing the entire assembly, but now I know and in the future I will just get the pump.

So I had to fix an AE code which ended up being a grease and food bits plugged valve in the drain contraption on the left side of the washer. After that repair there was a new loud buzzing noise from the pump motor so using this video I was able to easily remove the pump motor and find the small piece of metal that must have gotten lodged there when I was fixing the other part. Anyway, back together quickly and now it's back to running fine.

This video just saved me from getting scammed for almost $400. Called the service guy and they quoted me $100 for the pump and about $300 in labor. Thankfully, I have a little experience in automotive work so I had an idea of what mechanical parts should cost and immediately questioned their price breakdown. Of course when the repair company asked why I didn't want to move forward with the repairs they played dumb about the cost of parts and labor. The new pump is in now and is working great! Took me 10 minutes. Thank you for this!

Awesome video! Repaired my LG Dishwasher, model #LDF7551ST, exactly as discribed in this video. My dishwasher was not draining when following the "drain" steps provided in the video. I bought the motor only through Amazon and reused the existing rubber seal. Total cost was about $22.00. Tip - my motor was super hard to take off. I was unable to do it by hand. I used a rubber strap wrench to take the motor off and put it back on. Otherwise, super straight forward as described herein. Thank you Tundra, Tools, and Tech! You're awesome! "Coffee" coming your way!

Great to hear!! Yes, that motor needs a lot of force to open. That rubber wrench would be the perfect tool to use. I would recommend holding onto the top half when doing so for anyone attempting this repair. Thank you for the coffees!

This method worked for me! I was nervous that the drain pump was the issue, as the faulty and new one measured 4.8ohms. But your video detailing other things to watch for, like the high-shrill noise of the drain pump, and the standing water, made me get the new drain motor anyways. Dishwasher working great again!

This is so spot on, thank you. I scheduled a repairman to come out and he called me the day he was supposed to be here and said 'not worth the repair...' I asked him to explain and he said my model LG has to have the whole assembly replaced, and $300 in parts alone. He said I'm better off replacing the whole unit especially given the black friday sales. I said goodbye and ordered the part in your video ($32)... 10 min fix and seems to be golden. Thanks a bunch for saving me time and money and saving the earth from another unnecessarily trashed appliance...and now I know which repair service to never call again. Woot!

My dishwasher doesn't drain at all even when I force drain it, the water just sits stagnant. Everytime I run the dishwasher 10 minutes into a cycle it displays "OE" error code...will a new drainpump assembly that you linked in the description fix this problem? Thank you
@chicagohandyman7 ай бұрын
Does the drain pump make a noise at all? If it’s making a buzzing noise and doesn’t sound like water is moving, it can be the pump or a clogged drain line. Replacing the pump might help. Unclogging the drain line can help too. I can’t tell you without looking at it. I’d suggest doing both repairs.

Question: I just took my LG dishwasher drain-pump off as described. Thinking I could just get the mod# off the old drain to be sure I ordered the correct part from Amazon. However, I couldn’t find that particular mod# on Amazon, but a lot of drain-pumps came-up saying it fits LG ??????? and look exactly like the one I took-off my dishwasher. Does it matter as long as it says LG on it and looks exactly like it?
@chicagohandyman10 күн бұрын
Search your dishwasher model and look for a parts page. You’ll then be able to see what drain pump model you need.

But to answer your question, no, you cannot use any pump just because it’s for Lg. Use the exact part that you need.

Thank you for your help! All the appliances today are called in marketing terms “Planned Obsolescence” . They want consumers to shell out $800-$1000 for a new dishwasher every 5 years because fixing a drain pump would cost $400 for a service repair man to come. So consumers do the calculus in their heads and figure well if I am going to pay $400 to fix it I might as well pay $800 for a new one .Well I can fix this for $30 myself.

My pump was working fine, my dishwasher just wouldn't power up all of a sudden, so I found and replaced burnt wiring, the noise filter, and the main control board, and then I had power, but the thing wasn't draining. The pump was NOT making a whining or high-pitched noise. It DID sound like it was spinning but no water was heard draining. Hose wasn't kinked. I had just swapped it out 3 years ago. I measured 4.8 ohms between the two pins on left and right on both the old pump and on the new one I installed, so I don't know what's up there, if the old one was really bad or not, except that the new one does drain properly. I'm wondering if there was some kind of air pocket in the drain hose or something preventing it from draining. I'll mark the old one "may be good" , and test it again next time the pump dies.

I went to HD and bought a GENERIC replacement hose. Upon installing [bypassing everything; straight from the pump to my sink drain] I find I need to "toke" on the hose a bit, as if i am siphoning gas from a car, once I toke i hear the motor kick in and all water vacates properly. did i mess up by going generic with my replacement hose? thanks again

@jacknathaniel52037 ай бұрын
I put my finger right through the drain hose inspecting the pump--it was so brittle from maybe a decade of scalding water. I replaced it with a big box 6' drain hose. It's maybe a foot too long, but works so far. The big box hose had larger openings so I installed it over the ends of the old hose after cutting out the spiral tubing. I did need to use a hack saw to remove the thicker part of the old rubber hose end connected to the drain pump.

I sucked all the water out with a shop vac before removing the pump as described in the video; no mess whatsoever.
