You, sir, are absolutely brilliant! Without your help in the video I would have spent a ton of money to replace the control board and probably a service visit which would not have even fixed the problem. Amazing when you look at the two metal strips, which I did before watching this, you wouldn't image there was a film on them thick enough to block it's function. Followed your directions and we are back in business this morning. You're awesome. Thanks for taking the time.

Thank you for this video. My BRAND NEW samsung smartcare dryer, in my BRAND NEW home was not drying clothes completely, so I went through all the trouble shooting things I knew of, make sure the vent hose wasn't bent or blocking the exhaust, make sure the vent itself didn't have construction debris in it, made sure the gas line was connected correctly and the valve was open, checked and yes the dryer would run, yes it was heating quite well, yata yata, but nothing would actually be dry so I sat there and watched it go through a complete cycle (an hour and 16 minutes on max settings) but it stopped after 52 minutes, checked the clothes, still damp. Re-started the cycle, it shut off after 13 minutes. So I started looking online. The samsung website says "clean the moisture sensor with a damp rag with a drop of liquid soap". That didn't do squat. THIS however (sandpaper and rubbing alcohol), worked.

The issue is caused from bounce sheets, causes a wax-like build up on bars. Use a green scotchbrite pad to clean. If testing with a dmm put probes on terminals then put hand on both moisture sensor bars, if ohm reading changes its good. Then you have another issue such as plugged wall vent..

So far, this is the only explanation I’ve found for the symptoms and the corrective action seems to be effective. Had very similar resistance measurements before and after cleaning, so hope this solves the problem. Testing just finished and seems to show that the problem is corrected.

Good video. I just had the same problem with my LG dryer and it would only run for about 15 seconds before stopping. I cleaned out the area under the filter as it was very full of lint, and this still did not solve the problem. Finally I thought as you said that the sensor was not working because it's surface was dirty. I cleaned the contacts off with some 3M Scotchbrite material and now it is working fine.

My LG dryer has been shutting off early (about 10 minutes in on average) during the dry cycle. I will definitely give this a look and give what you did a try. Thank you for posting this! I checked continuously of the sensor bars and got low resistance readings on both (I use the diode tester function on my Fluke and got the solid beep on both). I didn't go rail to rail and use a damp cloth across them to measure the resistance, need to try that next. At this point, I can't see the problem being the sensor elements.

Thanks for making this video...My LG electric dryer DLEX8000V is showing 4 bars on the flow sense indicator light and I have extensively cleaned out all my ducting all the way to the exit exhaust fitting outside my home...Even after removing the duct to the wall from the dryer it is doing the exact sequence you mentioned: It is 41 minutes reading on Normal...then it quickly drops to 9....and then 6...until it turns off way too quickly and shows d 80...but it is fine in heavy duty or even jumbo dry...crazy huh? In Diagnostic Mode the following codes cycle before any tests U 10...d 12...15:E5...In the moisture test the number went from 237 down to 68 when I put the damp cloth across the sensor bars...so it seemed like it passed...I also ran the other two checks for temp and started at 35C ended up at 74C before declining very quickly to 68C then back up to 76C...whoa...is that good?...the range should be 5-70C...and pump AD value is 14-15...I am having problems getting my plastic housing out that contains both moisture bars...mine is one piece instead of having two screws like your model dryer...Can I just unplug my dryer and wipe down or polish those bars while it is still assembled?.. I wanted to confirm my guess that I have to remove the door and the front cover to access a screw(s) that hold the darn lint holder in place if I MUST remove it...thanks for any suggestions

Very helpful video!! What would you recommend for a dryer that’s brand new? Surely there’s nothing built up on the sensors. It stopped drying after 10 minutes the first time I used it, and the clothes were definitely still wet.
@signalsandbits3 ай бұрын
Manually set the time to more than 10 minutes. This will bypass the sensors because you set it to a specific time (that's how mine works). If it still shuts off early then its likely not the sensors. Other than that, I would contact the manufacturer if its new they usually give 90 day warranty. Under the warranty they would send someone to your house to fix it.

They can be different Mine is 120V. Mine is a gas dryer your might be electric. You should always unplug it when working on it.
@SarahMilesSmilesАй бұрын
This is probably a dumb question, but would optimal behavior be a continuous sound no matter where you placed the red and black leads (so long as they're along the same bar)? Patchy sound comes from minute differences in where the leads touch as you're measuring, so it's showing a presence of film (under at least one of the leads) in at least some areas? Something like the angle changing slightly as you hold maybe increasing the surface area from the very tip of a lead to along the side, upping the odds of finding a path SOMEWHERE between the leads, or sliding over a millimeter? And then no sound, so long as the device is on, means the area around at least one of the leads is pretty solidly covered? I THINK the sound is just binary - if there's a path from where the red lead touches to where the black lead touches. (I repair my own electronics, but circuit stuff is something I've no background in. Want to make sure I'm interpreting what's going on properly before I take something abrasive to the metal in our dryer. Have a cheap multimeter from Temu and have it set to test for connectivity, but since we can't see your meter the entire time, I want to make sure this is more about the sounds than any number displayed. Thanks for posting this video!)
@signalsandbitsАй бұрын
It is about the sound. The beep means continuity. Since it is a solid bar it should be continuous. The reason it stops beeping is because the bar has a film on it . That's why I used the Sandpaper to remove the film. You can try a scotch Brite pad
@SarahMilesSmilesАй бұрын
@@signalsandbits Theoretically, could you take the two places that wire connects to the metal bars and connect them together to bypass the moisture sensor? Closed circuit means clothing is still wet, so if you connect the two wires together, the dryer will always think clothes are still wet and run for the entire duration rather than deciding clothes are dry 10 minutes early and stopping to save power? I haven't removed the sensor yet to see those wires on our model (it's definitely the same part as yours), but it seems like it should work. Just don't know if there's a good pre-made piece to connect them or if it'd need wire stripping and twisting and/or soldering. People talk about having issues with that sensor if they do small loads, so doing this seems like it'd bypass a lot of potential trouble.

Question! Did you try cleaning (scuffing up) the metal bars to ensure there wasn't a buildup from chemicals in detergents? Just a theory I have since the bar should be conductive throughout. The sensor is needed to sense when the clothes are dry. For example if they dry in 10 minutes you don't want the dryer running for the full 40 minutes (or whatever cycle time is) and wasting energy. I don't think it will work without the sensor.

so..my Samsung machine is not shutting off in moisture sensing mode...it just stays running in heat mode. Probably not a moisture sensor problem or a moisture sensor wiring open since current must be being detected by the controller to run the system- (assuming the control board is working properly). I'm thinking the controller has got a problem.

Here is my question: If my dryer is running for only a few minutes and shutting off but stays on while I’m running it on air dry then it’s more likely to be the thermostat, right? Common sense says that if it were the sensor, it would shut off while on the air fluff or air dry or whatever that mode is lol Right?
@signalsandbits Жыл бұрын
Mine goes into the sensor dry mode automatically. But if I change the dry time or use a custom mode then it does not use the moisture sensor. So try changing the dry time if it still stops before completion then it's not a moisture sensor issue.

Ok hold on...I get that your unplugging your dryer but not everyone has a gas dryer with a 120v plug. Might want to inform everyone that if they have a electric dryer they will need to unplug the bigger 240v plug. It will either be a 3 or a 4 prong plug. Or if they know what circuit breaker there dryer is on they can do that as well. However it is much safer to unplug it from the wall.
