Thanks for making this video. 11 years later and it's just as useful as day 1. Things I found most helpful were identifying that 14mm and 10mm bolts are used to hold the 4 wheels in place, and the orientation of the belt tensioner and pulley (had to bring up the video again for that one). My model was the LG DLEX2901V which is very similar to the video but has the added steaming feature and a few more components to remove from the dryer before access to the drum and rollers. Thanks again

ok so I've never fixed a dryer before...my dryer started making a lot of sound, so I decided to call a repair guy. When he told me it was $85 for the service call plus parts and labor it came out to about 500-600 bucks. So of course I youtubed how to fix an lg dryer. after seeing videos I figured from common sense it was the drum rollers. I came across your video and thought ...wow he's really informative and does it step by step. So of course I thought well I can do that! So I ordered my parts which were only $8 each and I had your video up with my computer right next to me as I did it step by step! I finished and turned on my dryer and it now sounds perfect!!!! Thank you so much for this video ... you're a great teacher! I am definitely telling everyone with a dryer or any kind of mechanical problem to go to your videos first! Once again thank you thank you thank you!

Service and labor are the same jargon. Usually should be service costs + part costs = total price. I'd figure that this repair would be around 120-150 dollars. For 600 you can buy a new one...

@NativelyBornAmerican6 жыл бұрын
Three possible issues here. 1. The rollers are not spinning correctly so there's too much drag to turn the drum when fully loaded. 2. The belt is slipping when fully loaded, preventing the drum from turning. 3. The drum is dragging on something other than the rollers, causing too much friction when under full load. Disassemble again and check all the rollers to ensure they spin freely. Also, I recommend changing the belt and the idler pulley& spring. When reassembling, ensure the drum turns freely without binding. You'll get tension from the belt, but if you check before and after, hopefully you'll notice a difference. Good luck!

Thanks for posting this highly instructional video. My LG (Life is not always Good) dryer started making the thunk thunk sound while operating (8 years old). Bought a new belt and roller set - arrived in 2 days (THANK YOU). Spent an hour and a half disassembling the dryer - replacing the parts and then shop vacing the entire body of the unit to clear out the dust / lint / dog fur. Simple to follow and very clear instructions - thanks again

Thanks for the video. I had to replace my belt and rollers a couple times. My wife and 2 daughters all have long hair that gets everywhere. The hair ultimately gets caught in the rollers, causes them to seize or slow and eventually creating a flat spot which causes a super annoying thumping noise. Not unlike a flat spot on a car tire. This is an easy repair that only requires a screwdriver and a couple wenches or sockets set. Video helped immensely.

I was told I should take it to Denver for repair, which is 5 hours away. I found your video and figured I would try doing the work my self. I first just replaced the 1 bad roller that was obvious. I ignored the suggestions to replace all 4 rollers at the same time. Bad choice. After replacing the one roller the dryer still wasn't rotating like it should. One of the other rollers had a flat spot on it causing the problem. I ordered 3 more rollers - just got done replacing them and now . . . . . . . my dryer works like brand new. Excellent video tutorial...The repair is demonstrated step by step, from start to finish. Any hazards or cautions are clearly pointed out during each step...from disassembly, the repair itself, to putting the dryer back together and plugging it in. If you can pull your dryer out into an open space, so that you have plenty of room to work, replacing all four rollers can be accomplished in about an hour. I would recommend purchasing replacement rollers that include the shafts, as well as replacing ALL four rollers. While diagnosing my issue (primarily by the thumping sounds the dryer was making) I was lured into thinking that the rollers simply had a flat spot on them. When I opened up the dryer, I discovered that one roller had seized completely and would not turn, two other rollers had self destructed (the bearings had disintegrated into piles of metal shavings at the bottom of the dryer)... only one roller was turning freely but was close to seizing up as well. We've had this dryer for 9 1/2 years. After making this simple repair it sounds like it did when we first purchased it.

Thanks for the great video! I was amazed by the simplicity of it all. I was able to replace all 4 rollers on our 12 year old LG gray electric dryer after one of the rollers got full of long hair in the front and stopped rolling, causing a flat spot on the wheel. Eventually breaking free and rolling again but now with a loud thump, thump thump. The hardest part was getting the belt on over the pulley because of lack of a good view past the motor. The first time i looped it on the front of the tension pulley assembly and while it ran, it made a whirring rubbing noise. Quick taking it apart and with the use of a flashlight I was able to see the issue and route the belt behind the pulley and all was well. I ran it for 30 seconds with the top off just to make sure it was running correctly and see that the belt was now back to the exact location it had marked on the drum from 12 years of use. Thanks again! Your video and Amazon saved me quite a lot of money!

THANKS for this video! Followed your step-by-step instructions, except in my case the machine didn't even require any new parts. I found pet hair tightly wrapped around the shaft of one of the front rollers ... the result was like what happens when too much hair gets wrapped around a vacuum cleaner roller/brush. Removed all the hair so the roller rotates freely, reassembled the unit, and it's good as new (plus fully de-linted!)

Thank you so much for posting these videos. I was able to install 4 rollers and a belt on my LG dryer. It took me a bit longer than others because of my eyesight issues but I was able to complete the job in 4 hour. Perhaps it took me longer also due to some model related variations that I had to figure out along the way. On a sidenote people with back problems might find it easier to put the dryer on its back (after front assembly is undone) to remove and replace the drum. I actually installed the drum back that way and also the belt, before bringing it upright. All in all, great video, great professional instructions.

Very easy, simple instructions which will save me some money in the long run. The two front rollers on my LG DLE 5977W are worn down with one that is semi-locked up. The back rollers are in good shape. However, those seem loose (about 1/4" play back and forth on the shaft) and I'll have to figure out if that is normal or not. Hope to get another 13 years out of this dryer. It's left side buddy, the washer, is a whole other issue.

Thank you so much for doing this video. I had a dryer that was making alot of noise AND would not heat up. After watching your video tutorial, I was able to replace the rollers and the thermal unit along with 2 new thermostats/thermistors/fuses (whatever you call them). The only hiccup I had is that the place where we bought our washer and dryer used rebuilt it using the wrong kind of rollers that presumably were meant for the American made brands, not the LGs or Samsungs. Where this became an issue was the back rollers because the retaining nuts on the other side were the wrong size/thread pitch. Once I realized why they were wrong, it was just a simple trip to the hardware store for a couple nuts to fits the new rollers I bought. Soup to nuts, this job would up costing me about $65 or so for parts on eBay. ($40 for the new thermal unit and thermostats/fuses and $26.57 or so for a 4 pack of new rollers) In truth, I could likely have replaced only the bad roller(s) and the thermistat & fuse for even less than that, but i figured if I was going to tear the whole machine apart, it was going to get new everything. A little overkill never hurt anybody, right? Either way, doing it myself saved me a ton of money for a repair guy's labor and service call fees and whatever markup they would likely have hammered me on parts over and above the local supply house's markup. You guys are awesome. Thank you.

Thank you for this video. Very clear and straightforward. Question. I bought a repair kit from a local shop which included the belt and pully in addition to the roller wheels. The kit also included a small packet of lithium grease and a little piece of paper with the note "apply grease to this wheel", but it wasn't attached to anything. This video (and others) do not mention applying any lubricant. Any ideas which "wheel" they want me to apply the grease to? Is lubricant even necessary? I have been looking at similar kits online and have not seen another that states it includes any lubricants.

I have this LG model in gas and it started making a rumbling noise that got worse each time we used it. I thought it was the rollers but when I started taking it apart I found a ball of lint that must have came loose and got stuck in the blower fan. Excellent video help. Have an LG model# DLEX5101V which mas manf in 2010. This model in video is very similiar to ours, and will help with diss and reassembly. From previous posts on here, be cautious of sharp metal edges. Also the rollers will require a 10mm and 14mm wrench or socket. My nuts were extremely tight and almost bent metal frame that drum rides in.

You totally can! We don't have a video for the rear felt seal, but we do have one for the front, which will help. If you put the video id "xgl8jZ9Xef0" into the KZbin search, the video will come up.

I appreciate the video! I made the repair and replaced all 4 rollers. I checked them and they all appear to turn fine. After putting it back together, the belt seemed to slip, or the tub was too tight. It turned, but ever so slowly. I took it back apart and turned the drum around. Tada! It started turning correctly. However, once I put a light load in, I can hear the belt moving, but the drum only turns with my assistance. I feel some resistance, but nothing more than before the repair. Any thoughts on why it can't take the weight of an actual load?

Great video, thank you! It gave me the confidence to repair my LG TROMM dryer. My dryer had started screeching and eventually stopped turning. The screech seemed "rubbery" to me, so I suspected wheels or belts of some sort. Your video showed me that indeed my dryer has both and, when I took it apart, I found one of the rollers had actually seized with lint, and part of the rubber wheel had worn flat! Well, I replaced all four rubber rollers and the belt (dryer is about 8 years old, so I figure why not repair all these parts at once and get another 8 years). However, now the dryer does not run as smoothly and quietly as I remember (back before the screeching started). It used to make a smooth "humming" sound while running. But, now there is a very noticeable "oscillating sound" constantly repeating at a fast pace, about a few times per second. I am wondering if, a) I have installed the new rollers in some kind of "misaligned" manner, or b) if the rollers I used were not quite up to spec (e.g., perhaps they aren't exactly circular, and so when rotating they cause an oscillation; they were non-OEM replacements). Any advice?

It’s not likely the rollers are on wrong; unless the roller shaft is bent or worn badly, the roller will align itself on the drum when the drum is installed. It may be that the rubber on the rollers is making the noise and it may go away after they are used more. Sometimes the rollers get flat spots that can cause the noise or the rubber is a little harder and makes more noise when it hits the drum seam as it rotates. I would give it a little time and see if the noise subsides and if it doesn’t, maybe try installing the OEM (produced by the original equipment manufacturer) rollers to replace the aftermarket (non-OEM) ones.

***** Thanks. I might give it more time ...although it seemed to get a little worse after the couple "real" cycles, so I'm concerned. I can also hear the same noise (at a slow rate) when I turn the drum by hand. It's almost like a small knock. Btw, although it is 8 years later, I'm really annoyed at my installers (from a major department store that shall remain nameless, but begins and ends with S). They only put a 3" piece of tape on two of three joints of the L-shaped ducting they installed inside the dryer. Totally shoddy job. None of the tape went all the way around the duct -- the joints were all basically completely unsealed, and one joint had come partly open from vibration I suppose. After the 8 years, an inch of dense lint had accumulated inside the dryer (I vacuumed it all out of course) and is most likely what caused one of my original rollers to completely seize, and another to almost seize. Not to mention that a dryer filling with excess lint is a fire hazard! I'm glad I found this now, and of course I properly sealed up the duct myself while making the other repairs.

For a gas LG dryer, is it necessary to disconnect the gas line before performing this repair?
@xsf2354 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your informative video which lasts 6 minutes and 23 seconds. It took me about 3 and 1/2 hours total on my LG Tromm DLE5977B dryer which was 15 years old, had mental problems to reach to get to the rear roller axle nut size 14 mm I think, but my 9\16 inch socket worked, besides I just needed to get it started with a 10 mm socket on the easy side. I spend some time with: a lot of hair wound up around the shaft behind the blower next to the motor, and cleaning the inside walls of the electric heating element that had way to much lint. I don't want a dryer fire. Thanks again.

Can u just replace the rollers without removing the shafts? Some places charge extra for the shafts. Removing the triangular nylon retainers seem faster, easier and cheaper but a good, helpful video. Thanks
@michelb6136 жыл бұрын
I would also like to know if I can just replace the rollers and not the shaft (I have extra rollers that appear identical from a kit that I got to fix another dryer (Whirlpool) where I only needed the pulley. Let us know if you think we can replace just the rollers.
@michelb6136 жыл бұрын
In case anyone is curious, I happened to have rollers from a Whirlpool without a shaft and they do not fit on the shaft of the LG rollers. But I was able to remove all the hairs and lint and the roller (only 1 was stuck) spun freely after that so you might not need to replace the rollers anyway.

Noise is not always the drum rollers, the drum bearing in the back can also be a good source of noise.

Hi, great video! How do we know which roller needs to be replaced
@trippnwo3 жыл бұрын
If you take the drum out just replace all 4. It’s actually easier. I did the front left one originally and it was a pain but doable. Turned out my drum was cracked so I replaced it. While it was out I replaced all 4 rollers in a matter of minutes. Otherwise you have to try and spin them to see which ones aren’t spinning or feel them for any broken rubber on them.

also if you do take the roller out you could just clean the shaft of the roller and apply some wd40 for lubrication worked pretty well
