LG G Watch R Review - One week with the Android Wear watch

Have you tried the 360? I'm thinking about taking the plunge, but from a 'style' point of view a lot of people are saying the G watch looks too bulky would you agree?

harvey keates I have yes. I don't want to upset people but the 360 is a previous generation. The old cpu makes it laggy, the screen is never on and even then the battery barely makes it through a day. The casing cracks etc. The screen is also grainy and a little dull.Lets not also talk about the flat tire...The GWR is better in almost every aspect except size, although it's about the same size as my old G-shock, which I've worn for years and so for me it's perfect. I found people noticed the 360 more and I got a kind of confused look moreso than admiration, the GWR goes mostly unnoticed unless in a dim room (where it glows) or notifications come through and then you get the wows. No more explaining why the bottom is cut off etc.

If Motorola hadn't cut a way the bottom bit- and maybe used the same p-oled screen the 360 would have been the one though, eagerly waiting for the moto 720? 😂 +ra.vu

Great review and similar to yourself, I've owned a few smartwatches , namely the Sony Liveware, the Pebble, SW2 and the Gear 2. I've avoided jumping onto the Android Wear wagon for months, as I felt the hardware of the G2 (speaker, camera and IR blaster) was superior to anything the AW watches could offer. However, I went for the LGR for the always on the screen and the fact that it resembles a real watch. 10 days later and I'm still lovong it!

Sounds like we are in the same camp. Like you, once I had always on of pebble the Gear 2 etc was a step back. Watch first. However the Gear 2 had a lot more functionality and there are bits I miss. Given that LG already had the G Watch, I hoped that they would have improved on that, and boy did they ever.

Terrific review, well paced & delves beyond the hype. I have a Sony SWR10 wristband monitor & believe this watch could be the natural progression to go with my Sony Xperia Z2. Just unsure how well it takes sweat during intense cycling, then a shower? Anyway, I really enjoyed this review & will look through some more now. Cheers.

Seems great watch, but i have got few querries regarding like , 1) setting an alarm - is it possible? 2) Can we track the runnings we make without internet, or bluetooth of phone nearby. in short does it works for applications like Garmin to track your activity i.e. kilometer /hour type info. Best lgr review, well done. Hope your channel keeps growing. Ive got 2 questions about the watch: can you set an specific time until the screen "turns off"? And does it use 3g from the phone when checking for example maps?

Many thanks dude! Timeout from watch is not configurable at this point in wear, but may be later or in 2.0 And yes, it uses the 3g / GPS or wifi from phone to use maps, there's no GPS built in.

Does the full message appear, only the name of your contact, or just the whatsapp icon telling you someone wrote you? Is the same for SMS? Can you answer either of them from the watch?

Hi, sorry I missed this comment. Sms shows you the full message, you can also go back through the history of them. I haven't got whatapp but will install and let you know:) You can answer sms, hangouts, facebook etc via the watch using voice (it works really very well). I do this a lot.

No I don't. I think that's mostly rumour due to all the negativity surrounding cracking backs, screen burn and battery woes. It helps to have a carrot to dangle.

No it only happened when being charged. Also how long do you charge it first time? Then how long does it take to charge normally just downloaded the puji watch face you had at number one in your fav 5 watch faces. Only got the smart watch today its really nice. And I have subscribed to your channel very helpful.

Ahh, yes that's normal then. Mine came fully charged, I ran it down and then it takes less than an hour to go fully charged again. Battery seems to hold more charge after maybe 4-5 cycles. Maybe 20% more I'd say. May be placebo though. Puji is great, check out my latest video for a DIY tutorial of sorts.

You do know that you can turn of always on screen right and then you can get up to 2 days

Yep, sometimes it does in RL too. One of the issues with a single core is if something id going on in the background, like apps updating etc. you can notice some lag on watch. Isn't as bad as with the moto360, that's almost unusable. And the Lollipop update has generally made it a bit quicker too.
