This is the best review i've seen for the LG G Watch R. Very informative and helpful. Thanks.

I drew the same exact conclusions you did. Yes, i wanted a smartwatch, but at the end of the day I want it to look, fit, and feel like a man's watch. Well Done.

Thanks for the review. The thing that is holding me back (besides the hefty price) is that I have been spoiled by the Gear 2's ability to actual make and receive calls on the watch without having to pull phone out. It is probably the feature I use most because it is so convenient when your hands are busy doing yard work or walking dog, shopping, etc to just talk ala Dick Tracey to your wrist! Do you think google will ever allow androidwear devices to have a speaker and implement this function? Would love an androidwear device that does that, but without that feature, as long as I have a Samsung phone, I gotta stick with Gear 2, despite its Tizen drawbacks.

Edge Surre This is a good point. LG have the aesthetics down and as a fashion item it is worth to buy like a fashion watch, but the battery life defeats its usefulness. Now if there were other use cases as Edge Surre outlines, that would be extremely useful. Edge Surre So how is your Gear 2 performing on a daily basis? Is the hands free practical, any other use cases?

ThePharaohsCat Gear 2 battery life for me is about 2 days, sometimes more...as far as practical use, as stated my most used feature is actually answering phone calls directly from my wrist without having to take phone out of my pocket. This unfortunately is the only real benefit of Tizen and Gear 2 is a bit out of sync with the favored androidwear platform, which has access to Google Now and Maps, etc. Other practical uses, though not ideal are sending text messages through S Voice, it lags quite a bit, but it is generally pretty accurate interpreting what I say. Camera, Heart rate monitor and Pedometer are other uses, though not really something I use all the time. If somehow Google could take a cue from Samsung's Tizen and allow for phone calls and texts to be sent and received via voice, without the need to take the phone out of pocket, and androidwear devices in general had longer battery life, wearable tech would be a more viable instrument. Right now you got pieces of a good idea on one platform, and an overall blueprint of an OS on another platform, but until they unite the features, I can't see it going anywhere.

I feel like i am watching news:) are you an anchorman? By the way, do you have to keep it connected to phone in order to use basic functions like seeing the time?

LG G Watch R, only lasts 2 days on a charge and is high priced at $300! Apple Watch is $400 and lasts 18 hours?! I'll take it! Also, nice review.

Nice video! I have bought the G Watch R today and connected it with my Oneplus One. Just have a fairly big problem as my OPO does not connect to wifi anymore when it is connected to the LG. Any tips?

Great review. However have yet to see a daily usage review or field report. You made an excellent point of how you stopped using a watch (like myself), but where is your justification for having an "AndroidWear" smart watch? You said, "really can enhance your smartphone experience"; people "will wonder how you lived without out. "Compelling" reasons, really? I really like the look of the watch but just not convinced yet to buy one. Normally I buy a phone and live with it for a while, and see, as it is such a practical device. Not so with a smartwatch with one day's battery life. Would like to hear your thoughts.

What do you think of the Asus Zen Watch? It's supposed to be available in the US now for $199 at Best Buy. It has a square P-OLED display
@alexguitar84110 жыл бұрын
The Zenwatch sports a regular AMOLED not a P-OLED.

I'm torn between this and Sony's Smartwatch 3. I prefer the OLED, but am concerned that the round face cuts off a lot of the info, particularly on the smaller 1.3 inch screen. Was this something you noticed?

Can you use it to make calls without using your phone? Basically replacing a bluetooth earpiece, use the watch for your phone call. I want a smart watch with that function. I'm in I.T. and sometimes I need both hands and it would be great for driving.

Is the battery life of your smartphone much shorter when it's connected to the watch all day long ?
@DeviceEnforcer10 жыл бұрын
I've used my G3 with the Sony Smartwatch 2 for many months, and haven't experienced much of a problem with battery drain. By the end of the day, my battery is at around 92% pretty consistently. You can try turning Bluetooth on on your device for a full day and see how much battery is lost because that's really the only thing that drains it from connecting to a smartwatch.

2-3 days use with screen always on! I'm lucky to get 6 hours with screen off let alone the fact it's killing my phones battery with the constant connection to Bluetooth.

No, it's pretty much useless without a phone running Android 4.3 or higher, as far as I know. I couldn't even change the displayed time.

It shouldn't be too much of a problem, isn't there a size thing online for It or something? You can usually fix problems Like that by drilling another hole in the straps
