Great Review B! I didn't expect Sony OLEDs to do what they did this year LG has really been my favorite for OLED gaming the last few years but not this year Sony really impressed me whether its A90J or A80J they definitely win over the LG in most scenarios when your talking image quality and yes even with gaming, I think I would only grab the LG if you are a PC gamer or you have multiple HDMI 2.1 consoles. One thing you said on the A90J it was appearing washed out in color next to the G1, I think thats because the LG's definitely have that color saturation out of the box in game mode which does look really good, so to help anyone else out that might want to match that on the Sony using the live color option can really get you close to that or just raise up the color setting a bit to your liking and I found it to match the LG for the most part after doing that.
@jayroman33843 жыл бұрын
They don’t have any color saturation if you set them properly, additionally for the price range the LG OLEDs have far more gaming features than the Sony. Sony for movies all the way, but gaming? No LG takes that by far.
@miguelmartin71793 жыл бұрын
I' m totally agree. LG has more vibrant colors and ready to play out of the box, but if there's something that all reviews are stating is the A90J has an outstanding colorimetry, but you have to play with the calibration menu to get those rich tones in game mode. That's the difference.
@reviewforthetube64853 жыл бұрын
@@miguelmartin7179 not true at all. Calibrated tvs all of them will look accurate and natural actually out of the box. Sony game mode looks better. Just ask kg I mean he had them. Lg is the one you need to mess with the new black feature and mess with settings to get right. Regardless I won't harp on that if yoy can grt the image why does it matter. Oh I don't want better processing or a better look just because I need to adjust settings? Why wouldn't yoy want the better looking tv even if you had to mess with settings. For me sony wins if ylu want bright saturated you can get it. If you want dark and rich ylu can get it. Whatever you want. Also the sony is more accurate out of the box it has saturation where it's needed. That's better then being innacurate and you can actually get way more color then lg with settings like it's not even funny. You can yet rhe a80j and a90j to look like a qled if you want. Sony has a color space called Adobe rgb this year and for gaming it's an animal. Super super rich and deep. Sony also has bapck adjust on every mode not just game mode. Meaning it will get more depth then lg. Goy can adjust your black level fully super riches or more detailed again in every mode. Not just low or high like on lg and alof fo the time you are locked out on content with the lg. Sony allows gamma adjustments even in hdr lg doesn't. This yes will always give the sony the advantage for preference not reference settings. Not to mention it'd also able to get more reference without claibrations then the lg. So you can grt whatever you like and if you want to pass that uo because you believe out of the box the lg ihas more color you would be sadly mistaken. Lg isn't accurate out of the box so you cna make the sony as inmacurate as you want. Again it may be accurate but colors are still great. Bright highlights will always be more adturaated on the sony due fo quad sub pixel boosting. Yes it's noticeable this is all coming from someone with an lg and a sony oled. I mean dude imagine live color on high nobody shows you that. Hell live color low can sometimes out do lg. And lg as proven by so many settings don't really do to much. Yes using enough of them will do something. But it's nothing like the huge differences you can get with sony. Anybody who doesn't buy a sony be a use you have to adjust "settings" would be able mistaken or would be missing out big time. It's incredible what these tvs can do and to be able to push it harder and further get more saturation elseiclaly with brighter colors which most oled tvs can't do well at all. Is pretty damn amazing.
@reviewforthetube64853 жыл бұрын
Yeah KG only reason the lg was more attested is he used ISF bright vs custom is bright is srt to native out of the box. Meaning wider color space. If he switched the sony to standard that would be the ssme as him using ISF bright on lg. That's like cokapring a tv I'm rec709vs dcip3 and yes the sony you can access all color spaces including something called Adobe rgb which si so beautiful and rich in gaming. You can grt so much color on the a90j to the point that I can't belive it. Also b showed in dolby vision and hdr the color was the same. It was just when he showed sdr. That's due to the presets he used. I only say this as I have an lg with ISF bright mode.

Reference and accuracy are surely a thing, but it matter what looks good. In all of the still shots that he was showing the “problem” in, the Sony looked better lol. Jon Snows armor showed much more detail that was crushed out and black on the LG. I own the G1 and I can confirm that sometimes things get a little toooo dark. The A90J in Vincent’s video seemed to allow certain things on the screen to look brighter in order to keep detail, while still allowing inky blacks where they needed to be.

I had the same debate. Honestly I went with the A90J. The C1 you would have to calibrate it to get the best picture. The A90J I would still calibrate but doesn’t need it being a master series. The C1 based on watching (not kidding) every review on KZbin, reviewing digital foundry, and knowing a lot myself about TVs and the tech, would do what I needed it too, but didn’t want the black levels overwhelming the picture. I have both series x and ps5. Either way I think you would be happy, but if you want the best and can afford. Go big or go home knowing you have a brighter image without voiding the warranty trying to go in the LG service menu and trying the G1 trick, better highlights and overall sharper image. Self calibration is roughly 400-500 for the tech I bought. Hope this helps

Honestly for anybody wondering, the Acoustic Surface Audio+ the sound is so good it almost negates the need for a sound bar. So considering the fact that you’ll spend $800-1000 on a decent bar, where you don’t have to with the A90J, it can make sense for the extra cost. Of course it won’t have the depth in bass but if you’re someone in an apartment/condo/townhouse but you want to have very good sound, it’s worth it. The heat sync pulling additional heat off the screens to push the pixels further is just enough to push the value over the $1000 premium in comparison to G1.

I game on my PS5, but VRR isn't important to me and the game optimizer seems like more of a hassle than it's worth (I don't care about the input lag enough to even put it in Game mode). It's honestly a bigger deal to me that Sony is packaging Google TV as the OS because I can ditch my Google Chromecast with Google TV and pass straight to my AVR with e-arc, which will simplify things quite a bit. Because of my Atmos setup the built-in tv speakers don't matter to me. The price of the A90J is probably going to make me go for the A80J, but those HDR highlights do look tasty.

@kojak991003 жыл бұрын
@@Bklynblaze1 I honestly never noticed any dimming. I’ve watched both hockey and baseball. I was using an over air antenna. One was broadcast in 720p the other in 1080i. The hockey was at night and the ice was so bright I had to go from standard mode to cinema. Baseball was in the afternoon with the room moderately lit and cinema mode was plenty bright enough. I had the overhead lights on in the room and the A90J looked perfectly fine. This latest generation of OLED’s has no problem with room lighting. I would recommend the A90J or the A80J over the G1 especially for upscaling of SDR content. Both the hockey and the baseball looked brilliant and crisp in spite of the relatively low resolution of the source. All thanks I think because of the new XR processor in both Sony models.

Its one thing that is bugging me. I read somewhere lately that G1 has the new oled panel but A90J and A80J dont have it. Thats also why G1 is as bright (more or less) as A90J that has a heatzink. Or how can LG C1 that has an old oled panel be more or less as bright as the A90J and A80J? What am I missing here? The new panel is not as good as they say?

Thank you for your review. The value of the G1 is clearly better in my opinion for a thousand less. (I saw a promotion in my country for 1500 less last night !) B The Installer, I think you did an excellent job on this video. Here is my take, I put my name in for a 83" A90J twice from Value Electronics, have not heard a word so it has given me more time to listen to you, FOMO, Whisper Status and Techno Dad on this subject. The more I listen the more I am wondering whether the smart move would be to wait until next year to purchase my 83 inch TV. My reasoning is that there will be more selection, the companies will have more experience with these new panels, the prices will be lower, and maybe Sony will have their software figured out. I know I will have to pull the trigger at some point, but $8000 is a lot of money in my neck of the woods. Any thoughts? Thanks for the good work to all of you.

All I’m waiting for is the firmware update including VRR at some point this year for my a90j
@nihren24063 жыл бұрын
The A90J is definitely the strongest contender for my next TV. It just has that extra bit over the G1 and A80J to mesmerize me. It does have its problems, some of which do concern me, but the overall picture quality I feel is worth the trade-off if you can deal with some janky motion(Which you can shore up somewhat with the available options) and some not so great transitions from pure black to gray. The lack of VRR doesn't really make a difference to me and I likely wouldn't use those Game Optimizer settings. Plus I spend more time watching TV and movies than playing video games these days so prioritizing the quality of those over games makes sense, especially since I have a decent collection of SD content, both live action and 2D/3D animated.
@icycannonball3 жыл бұрын
I don't know if this is true, but I heard that tvs that ship to the US or Europe are lower in quality than ones shipped to Asian countries/cities. For example, the US price for the 77 inch g1 is around 4500 right? Where I'm live, the price for the same model costs 15k USD... You can buy an 8k TV for that price... I don't get it at all..
@monstalova3 жыл бұрын
I really doubt it. The main point seems to be the amount of stock US buys so they get the TVs cheaper, also the amount of sales they bring in. Shipping to different countries wouldn't warrant such a high difference in price either. Also certain countries charge more in tax per unit. Add in conversion rate from the dollar plus retail stores putting higher prices to make more profit and it can make a big difference. Would be more because of the amount of TVs that the US sell there's bound to be more bad panels by percentage. Really, some countries retail prices seem ludicrous
@icycannonball3 жыл бұрын
@@monstalova many good points there. However, I'm unsure about the part where you said that retail stores jack up the prices for increase profit (in this circumstance) because itvs here have always been more expensive than in the US or UK. But perhaps like you mentioned, it has to do with the amount of demand to the US vs other Asian countries. I do agree that the prices are ridiculous though. Utterly insane.
@monstalova3 жыл бұрын
@@icycannonball i think its a combination of all the points I mentioned (extra taxes might be the biggest!) that's why you see a huge difference.
