Went swimming for 45 minutes in a swimming pool before realizing I had my LG 3G phone in my pocket. Followed your instructions and dissembled everything but the screen. Everything on the inside was corroded. In some areas it was quite heavy. I guess the chlorine in the water has a pretty significant effect on the internal components. I soaked the main board about 40 minutes. Used a toothbrush to scrub everything else. Reassembled the phone and everything works fine. Lost nothing. The only noticeable difference is a few dried water spots on the screen that can only be seen if I tilt the phone. Thanks for the video. It really helped. BTW, the battery still charges and works fine.

This method completely saved my phone! I dropped it in the toilet and tried just leaving it in rice for a few hours. Upon researching that rice doesn't really help, I decided that the best way to quickly save my phone was to just open it up and figure out how to fix it from there. I read a lot of articles about how to "dry" my phone, but they all suggested to go to professional and pay to fix it. I can't afford that, and Im impatient. And thus, I came upon this video. I repeated exactly as he did, though I didn't soak the part in alchohol, I just scrubbed and dipped till the corrosion was virtually gone. I let it dry for about 10 minutes, screwed everything back together. and then turned it back on! It was absulutely fine after that! Before, the screen would start playing that logo and then blink a few times before just going completely black. Now it takes the usual loading screen time, and the screen is absolutely normal!!! Luckily, there wasn't any corrosion on the battery because as soon as I got the phone out of the water, I removed the battery and let it be. It didn't even have any water-damage indicator on the white sticker. I really dodged a bullet thanks to this video. And I'm so glad I was lucky enough that this method worked on my device. I don't know what I would have done without my phone. Again, THANK YOU. YOU REALLY SAVED MY PHONE.

Ashleigh Jasmin I am so happy to hear that my video provided you with enough information to save your phone! Another very important step that you performed was that you removed the battery right after you dropped the phone into the water to limit any further electrical damage to the logic board. Thank you for your feedback as well! Much appreciated!

Normally I don't comment on here. However, not only did your video inspire me to comment but set up an account just to do so. I trashed a brand new G3 by falling off a boat into saltwater. Your tutorial on this repair allowed me to fix my phone, and it is working perfectly. I know its luck of the draw with water damage repairs, but without this video I would have had zero chance of having a working phone. I can't thank you enough. Sent from LG G3

Hey Jim, your video really helped me. I had just bought a LG G3 two weeks ago, and in that time I managed to water damage my cell phone with coffee. Sure enough it stopped working and drying out did not help. Anyways your video enabled me to successfully open up, clean off the corrosion, and now I am happy to say my phone is working again! Thanks Jim. God bless!

I have a Note 3 and it was only submersed for like a couple seconds... But I have scrubbed it all out and from the beginning it worked great just a lot of blinking which worried me so I have taken it apart and its been in rice and silica gell for almost three days. Do you think I have good chances of getting my phone back to life aka blinking to stop. No corrosion but all of the water damage identifiers are red. Thank you!

I typically keep my phone in my shirt pocket at work (pharmacy). I had gotten powder on my hands and was washing my hands when I leaned over the sink I realized my phone was not "completely" down in my pocker, but I realized it too late. The phone hit the sink, soapy water and all. It was exposed for just a fraction of a second and seemed unaffected initially but I frantically rushed to rip the case off and pull the battery as quickly as possible. After drying the phone out using silica gel it still would not work (would sit at the LG logo screen that says android at the bottom). I followed this video and discovered that there was corrosion around the power input and the screen. Isospropyl alcohol and a baby toothbrush did the job and did it well. The phone works just as before and so far without a hiccup. Thanks for the video.

Blake Benefield I am glad that your phone is working normally again and I'm glad that my video gave you enough information to clean the corrosion around the power input connector and the screen. You also did a great job of using the silica gel packets instead of rice which can leave behind a powdery residue once dry which is something you want to avoid. You were also very smart to pull the battery immediately to stop any electrical current running through your logic board while it is wet or damp which can ultimately cause further damage to the board. Thanks again for comment and feedback about the health of your phone!

Hi and thank you for answering! I did replace the earpiece with one out of a very used LG I got on ebay. So that's why I can hear the caller slightly, but it still sounds very tinny and only works on loud/speaker, so this wasn't the solution. It's just frustrating because I can' t find the cause. Got this other LG for parts and don't get it working...

+Astrid Scheck Here are a couple of potential solutions. Make sure that your speaker is clean and clear of debris. Try blasting some compressed air in there.Try going to Settings > Call and turn Voice enhancement on and make sure that Noise suppression is also checked. If they are already checked then try toggling them off and test again.

nice video. i have the same problem. it wasnt so corroded indide. but the battery has that red dot and also the phoe in the back. took it apart, cleaned it with alchool, and nothing. i have the blue/ green LED on top and thats it. black screen. when the battery is drained out, the screen comes back to live and says charging. i manage to enter into the phone, look at settings, get some photos (love thos dual pics/ videos as in galaxy note 4). but when i press the power button to put the screen to sleep, that "killed" the screen. press again, the screen is black. press up and down volume, i can sense vibrating or even sounds, but no image...

hi, i dropped my g3 in the hottub for 1 sec and the whole phone went under for a . it boots up fine after i dried it off, but once it gets to the lock screen the screen turns off. the blue light that tells you the screen is turning on when you double tap goes on, and so does the screen but it just flashes on. idk what to do. will i need any major repairs and idk if i should risk opening the phone like in the video. the touch responds to the screen cuz i can feel the vibrations of the lock screen and the home button when i press in the same location.
@GadgetFanatek27
@GadgetFanatek27 9 жыл бұрын
ikeeelu1000 One problem that you have here is that the water in the hot tub had chemicals in it that could start to corrode the connectors on your logic board. I would recommend taking the back cover off of the phone as soon as you can to try and dissipate and residual moisture that may still be trapped in your phone. After doing this, I would also recommend that you clean the connector that attaches your screen to the logic board and clean this connector with some alcohol that you put onto a toothbrush. (I pinpoint this connector in the video so the screen connector will be easy to determine.) If this does not fix the screen issue, then I would recommend taking a hair dryer and blowing some warm/hot air onto the front of the phone to try and evaporate any moisture that may still be trapped between the glass and the digitizer. This may be another reason why the finger response is working on the phone but not the screen. I will warn you though, make sure to blow the air from the hair dryer in an sweeping motion over the glass as you do not want to overheat the glass. If you have a laser temperature reader, make sure that the temperature reading does not exceed 170 degrees. If all else fails, then I would recommend following the steps in my video to conduct a thorough cleansing of the logic board. I do hope that this information does help you out!

Gadget Fanatek thanks alot for the help. i decide to just put the whole phone in isoproypl 91% instead of taking the whole thing apart, and it worked for about 2 hours and everything was great. Then i went to sleep. i turned my phone on in the morning the screen turned on fine but the screens touch itself didnt work and there were weird blotches on the corners of the screen with LED partially showing through. IDK what to do now. ive decided to go to an actually professional to take it apart and stuff. if you know what to do that would be great. but thank you anyway for your time.

ikeeelu1000 I think your best bet now would be to replace the digitzer/glass assembly as I think that the digitzer is damaged. You can get a replacement assembly from eBay for around $60 to $70. The assembly is not hard to replace on the G3. I hope that this solution might work for you as this is what I would do. The very best of luck to you!!

ikeeelu1000 Aaaah no worries at all! Updates are fine with me! You might also want to consider getting another battery which could have been water damaged when the phone was first exposed to water. They are relatively cheap ($15 to $20 on eBay). This might resolve your charging and battery consumption issues? Worth a try right??

what do you say about synthetic paint thinner? can I use that for corrosion?
@GadgetFanatek27
@GadgetFanatek27 8 жыл бұрын
I would not recommend using paint thinner. Paint thinner is not really meant to dissolve or remove corrosion. I would stick with the Isopropyl alcohol....
@GadgetFanatek27
@GadgetFanatek27 9 жыл бұрын
Alex Tharma Looks like there would not be a need to remove and submerge the entire logic board as shown in my video with your situation. The corrosion is also very close to the connectors that attach the screen to the logic board. Have you tried brushing the two connectors that are shown in the picture you provided for me with alcohol?? You may also want to take a toothbrush and brush the bottom corner of the logic board as well as the earphone jack assembly to remove as much corrosion as you can...

So prior to doing this whole procedure, my phone did not that much signs of damage all in all. A small portion of the top of my screen had very limited to no response to touch and the bottom portion of the screen responds very slow to touch. However, other than that everything seemed intact. I went through the whole process, and unfortunately, my phone was still experiencing the same problems. Since it didn't seem like there were any issues aside from the screen, would replacing the screen/lcd digitizer possibly solve the problem?
@GadgetFanatek27
@GadgetFanatek27 9 жыл бұрын
AyTewTimpani Since the screen is displayin some activity, it would appear that your logic board is working so it would appear that your screen suffered some water damage and is working erratically. Your best solution would be to change/replace the screen and the LCD. It is imperative that the technician knows that the glass/screen and the LCD both needs to be replaced and not just the glass/screen! This job usually costs around $80 to $100 to have done and takes an experienced technician less than an hour to complete.....

Hey Gadget, have LG G3 & loved the fone upto this yellow /brown mark appearing on the screen (top left) sent for repair & they said 'water damage' warranty void. genuinely never has this phone been dropped or had water come into contact & i have had it from new plus the water damage they say is at end of board yet burn mark at top. Not tecchie enough to know if i am being fobbed off as it sure as hell feels that way especially as this burn mark seems to be a problem with this handset & others have said its from the glue?! any thoughts? tia
@GadgetFanatek27
@GadgetFanatek27 9 жыл бұрын
Karen McGuinness I know of two possibilities that this could be. One could be a glue issue and the other is“pressure damage". The glue issue may go away if you leave the phone in direct sunlight because when you expose the glue to UV rays, the yellow mark may become invisible. The other issue could be pressure damage that may be causing a yellowing on your screen. Sometimes a phones case can place pressure on the front glass that can cause a “burn in” shadow on the screen but the first thing that I have described here is more likely. But, the repair person that told you that it your issue has been caused by water damage is giving you a false story and more than likely telling you this as water damage voids a warranty so this is a way that some vendors use as a reason why a phone is not working properly to get out of having to fix the phone. Did you go directly to your cell provider to have them try and get your phone fixed with your warranty? The glue issue is a defect of the phone and should be repaired under your warranty agreement in my opinion…

Javier Zapata I would recommend purchasing some silica gel packs that you can get from eBay for about $5 that work much better at moisture absorption than rice does. Rice can leave behind a powdery residue after it extracts the moisture from your phone which can do more harm than good. Before you place your phone in a bag of silica gel packs, try and remove the back cover of the phone if possible. To find the silica gel packs, just type in "silica gel packs" in the search field within the eBay site and a list of vendors that sell the packs will come up. Also be careful about phones that say they are "waterproof". I know of a few phones that are "water resistant" but not actually waterproof. There are a couple of phone cases such as a waterproof "OtterBox" case that may make your phone more water resistant but still not waterproof. Just some advice for you for future reference!

Hi Jim, I fixed my Water damaged LG 3 according to your instructions here and it works terrific since then. The only problem I have, is my speaker. It seems damaged so I have difficulty understanding the caller. it's a little better on loud, but still problems. I tried to replace the speaker with one from a LG 3 I bought to replace it-didn't work. As the other one I bought really was in ugly optik as I got, I do want to use the original, water damaged one. Do you know what I can do to fix the speaker problem? Please help!!!
@GadgetFanatek27
@GadgetFanatek27 9 жыл бұрын
+Astrid Scheck Have you tried replacing the speaker with a brand ear speaker earpiece? If you are able to hear some audio then the problem is more than likely not with the logic board but with the ear piece itself. I have replaced ear pieces in the past without any difficulty. I have had success purchasing ear pieces on eBay and I have provided you with a link here of where I have purchased earpieces for my phones in the past for less than $10. ebay.to/1LbKD0b. All you will need to do is remove the logic board and then you will have access to the speaker that is at the very top of the phone chassis. Just remove it and then clean the area where the two metal contacts come in contact with the chassis of the phone with a cotton swab that has been dipped in isopropyl alcohol and clean the surface here. Wait a minute, and then place the new speaker in position. I hope this information and the link helps you out!

Hey i dropped my g3 in regular water like 2 days ago. It works perfectly. It turns on and off and the performance is the same. But the screen however, has a weird mark on it. It is very light coloured. It starts from the bottom left corner to almost the middle (only on the left side). I would like to know if there are any fixes? Any answer is appreciated.
@GadgetFanatek27
@GadgetFanatek27 9 жыл бұрын
Raptor Jesus Could be some moisture that has become trapped between the glass and the digitizer so what you might want to do is blow some heat onto the glass to see if this gets rid of the mark on your screen. If you do use a hair dryer to blow hot air on the screen, make sure you use a sweeping motion when you apply the heat and you should also remove the battery from the phone as you don't want anything to block the dissipation of moisture from the phone. From what you described it appears that your logic board is in good condition so if the heat treatment does not work, then you may need to invest in a new screen/digitizer assembly....

MrMaxi You may need to perform a hard reset on your phone.Your issue might not have anything to do with water damage if you can still see the display clearly. Here is how you do it... 1. Turn the power off. 2. Press and hold the Power/Lock key + Volume Down key on the back of the phone. 3. Release the Power/Lock Key only when the LG logo is displayed, then immediately press and hold the Power/Lock Key again. 4. Release all keys when the Factory hard reset screen is displayed. 5. Press the Power/Lock Key to continue or either of the Volume Keys to cancel. 6. Press the Power/Lock Key once more to confirm or either of the Volume Keys to cancel. This process will remove all of your phone's settings and you will need to reset everything.

@GadgetFanatek27
@GadgetFanatek27 9 жыл бұрын
Corey Murray Oh wow.Bleach is a highly corrosive liquid so there are no guarantees that the logic board is damage free. The rice method may work to dry out the phone before the bleach eats away the soldered connections on your phone. Did you remove the battery before you placed it in the rice?? If the rice method doesn't work, then you can try and clean the phone with alcohol but if any of the bleach has gotten between the digitizer (back light for your display) and the screen, you may need to replace the screen even if you do clean the phone with alcohol.

@zakdank

I used a wash cloth and 'patted' it dry and then placed it in a frost-free fridge for a few hours to remove any moisture left over. I checked everything again this morning and the only issue I can find is there seems to be a blackened/burned area on one of the ribbon connectors but this is for a little board that sits on top of the main board - not sure what it controls? I also noticed that when I plugged it in this morning it was showing a red LED which is usually when the battery is completely drained - I put it on charge for a bit which removed the red LED but it still only boots to a backlight and even then its pretty random when it tries to start.

@GadgetFanatek27

+Zak Dank The phone is most likely beyond repair by now. Salt water is incredibly corrosive and if enough water got in to short circuit the battery, as well damaging the logic board because of salt waters corrosive tendencies. Salt water damage can SOMETIMES be fixed but rarely after letting it sit in the phone for any length of time..

Justin Bradshaw How long was the phone under water? Sounds like the the water may have damaged the LCD/digitizer. May need to replace it. A new screen/digitizer costs around $100.00 to replace. Have you tried to evaporate any water trapped between the screen and digitizer by using a hair dryer or heat gun to try ans dissolve any water trapped between the screen and LCD? If you do use heat on the screen, make sure to sweep the hot air across the screen and don't let the temperature go above 175 degrees...

First off... thanks for the vid. I dropped my G3 outside in the rain. The phone was left on as it took in water (overnight) before I even noticed it was missing. I went ahead and dried it out, charged the battery, and attempted to power it back on with no results on vibration, LED indicator, screen, or sound. I went ahead and cracked open the phone and noticed slightly more severe corrosion than what was referenced in the video. I went ahead and followed all instructions provided in this video, and managed to show some progress. So far: LED indicator goes through normal Green/Blue boot cycle. Vibration when powering on or connecting to charger. Black Screen No Sound Once powered on all I have is the vibration and blue/green LED indicator. This will continue to stay on this cycle until the phone runs out of power. Do you have any clues to what I can do to troubleshoot this further or do you think the phone is toast?
@GadgetFanatek27
@GadgetFanatek27 9 жыл бұрын
Zach Wrightsman It is possible that you have a damaged screen since you are getting a light emitting from the logic board and and getting a vibration response would indicate that the logic board is functioning. You may want to consider replacing the screen/digitizer. If you have a Verizon phone, take a look at this link here. ebay.to/1HUHRdU This is chassis and digitizer replacement that you can get for around $60. Not a bad price for a new glass assembly and might be worth giving it a try. If this does not rectify your display issue, the phone may very well be toast.....

@GadgetFanatek27
@GadgetFanatek27 9 жыл бұрын
Korey Baines Since you can read an image on the screen, this means that you do have a working screen so the water has not damaged the phone to a condition that makes it unusable. When you see "the process system has stopped working" message on your phone, one way to remedy this would be to perform a factory reset of the phone to get rid of this message. A factory reset, sometimes known as a hard reset or a factory data reset, restores your phone to factory-fresh condition so the software should be as fresh as the day your LG was made. The reset won’t wipe out any Android updates you’ve done, so for example if you’ve installed Lollipop it’ll still be there after the reset, but it will remove your apps and data. Here is how you can reset your LG G3. Press and hold Power and Volume Down on the back of your G3 and then wait for the LG logo. Keep holding the Volume Down button and release then re-press the Power button. You should now see the Factory Data Reset screen. Use Volume Down to navigate to “Yes”. Press Power to confirm. You should now see the “Erase All User Data and Restore Default Settings” screen. Navigate to” Yes” with the Volume Down button. Press Power to confirm. Your phone should now restart and restore itself back to the factory settings. You will then need to re-enter your Google account information which will then start the process of downloading all of your apps and restore your Google email. Your phone contacts should also be restored after you go through this process. I hope this factory reset procedure is helpful for you and gets your phone working the way it was before you dropped it in the water….

Lewis Howitt Hmmmm. You may want to get some isopropyl alcohol and dip a toothbrush into the alcohol and brush the silver charging port thoroughly. You may also want to just dip the very bottom of the logic board where the charging port into the alcohol for a couple of minutes and then remove it, allow it to dry for a few minutes and then give it another try to see if the phone will charge.Since the screen does still work, there won't be any need for you to soak the entire board into the alcohol as is shown in the video.

TPhunkay It is possible that you have a damaged screen. Does the phone vibrate or emit any sound? If so, you may want to consider replacing the screen/digitizer. Not a bad price for a new glass assembly and might be worth giving it a try. Also, are you getting any red, blue or green lights flashing on the screen? If so, then your logic board is probably OK and you may want to consider changing the screen as I had described for you above. You may also want to consider cleaning the two connectors shown in the bottom of this picture (highlighted by the two red rectangles) here at this link, bit.ly/1O0QO6f, and see if cleaning/brushing these two connectors with isopropyl alcohol will fix the issue that you are having with your phones display.

Gadget Fanatek My situation is that my parents just went ahead an made a claim with the insurance. I got a brand new handset but I still want to get the memory off of the old logic board. I did the cleaning process and it still works the same as before. I get the flashing green and blue LEDs, the phone vibrates, etc etc. The only thing is that the screen remains black, and as for the input, I don't know if it works due to the dead screen. I took the logic board from the old phone and swapped it into the new one, which by the way was working perfectly fine out of the box, and again the phone has the exact same issue, black screen. Is there anything I can do? If I cant get it to work is there at least a way to extract the memory, particularly contacts and pictures?

Sooo, I was sweating on my cracked screen and boom there my phone went. It still cuts on and I replaced the screen but it still looks as if there is water damage...the screen shows color but no solid picture. Will this work? Or should I try something else?

Jean Campbell rubbing alcohol would also do the trick. I just prefer the isopropyl alcohol because it evaporates a little quicker than the rubbing alcohol....
