LG Refrigerator Test, Reset, and Forced Defrost Mode - How to Use

In a video I recently released about having an LG refrigerator not cooling, one of the cool things you can do is simply force the refrigerator to run or reset itself. In this video, I've taken and shown only this feature off. This will work for many, many LG refrigerators

Every appliance I own is LG and the fact that the refrigerator failed after 5 years and the crap they want us to go thru to fix it under warranty. I will never buy another LG product again. I have a 25 year old kenmore refrigerator in my basement that is now holding my food is a testament to how the country used to build quality things. LG is garbage

They supply compressors for kenmore ,Samsung,kitchen aid and some whirlpool all use LG linear compressors. Complete junk . My old still running after 28 years kenmore cold spot uses a old school reciprocating compressor which are very dependable

Mine wasn't cooling and after the reset its working again. What would cause this to need to be reset?

Great video! The explanation of the steps was easy to follow. My LG fridge has now completed the reset. How long until it should reach correct temps again? Prior to reset, fridge was running normally (lights, fans, cool air) but not freezing or cooling enough to keep the fridge at correct temps. Ice maker not making ice - I'm assuming because it couldn't freeze.

@@Millionin2025 No, it never was able to get cold. I purchased a new Samsung fridge from Costco. I can't complain since the LG lasted me 12 years. I think the LG brand has slipped in quality so I'm shifting to other brands that are better rated. Replaced my LG dishwasher at the same time with a Bosch.

I have a LG refrigerator and the freezer stopped working and I tested it and the code was FF which is freezer fan but all the fans ate working and compresser is vibrating but it's not getting up to temperature also absolutely no frost or ice on coils so idk what to do

Same thing happening to me right now. You get a fix? Woke up to melted ice draining from icemaker and everything thawed in freezer. I held the iceplus+refigerator buttons on front panel and got FF code. You have any luck?

If you're in express freeze mode how long it take before it will go back to normal setting if you did not press the test mode button?

Same problem here. We’ve had repair guy out three times. Replaced defrost heater, cleaned coils, got error message again the next day. I’ve been manually defrosting once or twice a week. Replaced the compressor when fridge was less than 3 years old. So frustrating!

Wil the LG refrigerator go into defrost mode if you have already manually defrosted the evaporator in the back tunnel? I want to test it before re-assembling everything and filling it back up.

Had code 22 but the board was no good. Test for 200vac at 2 pins to the right on con1 for compressor. Unplugged connector/ after pressing test button once. It ramps up to 118vac not enough. Also no led indicator lights on board. If you have a 22 you need to take extra steps to rule out pcb board.

How long do you let the test mode run in each section? Does it go through a test cycle before you move on to the next test?

Question how long does it defrost and when should I press button when completed defrost from refrigerator... Will this also defrost everything in freezer? Not mentioned. Please advise??? I've been battling for days as a senior on fixed income this unit was man.2121 ...bought 2022 but warrenty is past yr...for fans... live in very rural town. 137 homes .... I have no funds to replace... please help.😮😢

The defrost normally lasts from 20-30 min. It defrosts the ice on the evaporator, it does not defrost whatever frost is accumulated inside the compartment you will have to clean that yourself. If the defrost accumulated in th evaporator is a lot, the defrost might not be able to get rid of all the ice. In this case, I would recommend to let it defrost by itself, clean the appliance, put it together and then plug it again.

LG top freezer/Kenmore. Does weird things once a year like a cold freezer and warm box, sometimes the opposite. We pull the freezer panel make sure all is clear and fan is good and then roll it out and vacuum and spray the condenser with a pump up sprayer. About 40 hours later it had 38 in the box and zero in the freezer. I await the next mystery from this Chinese torture device. Have not gone to the board yet and pushed the button - if it has one. About 6 years old+ . Any thoughts anyone?

Freezer just took a crap this morning. Well maybe last night trying all these things along with cleaning the coils. Doing the 33 now jic. Also have a temperature sensor on order as well.

@@SCarboni sadly no. We could have seen about a service call to see if the parts LG is extending warranty was going to cover. But considering it was memorial day weekend anyway, wife decided to just buy a new fridge all together.

HI Ben, Can you help me solve this one... LG Fridge that keeps beeping to tell me the door is open. lfxs28566m. Ive deduced it is the right door because I can move the door around a little and I see the light go off to tell me the door is close. I ran a magnet around the door jamb and the light never turned off. So I took the wires for the magnet switches, cut them, and tied them together. That way I could eliminate that as a problem. Somehow the door can still sense when it is opened and closed. Is there another door switch? I bypassed the 2 in the right door, one in the main section of the door and one in the smaller exterior piece that opens. There must be another door-open sensor somewhere. PLease HELP!!

the best fridge i ever had was bought in 1979 in canada it was a three door kelvinator ivory colour with wood looking handles, it still runs as a beer fridge in my garage replaced the thermostat once and the defrost foil wrap tray and heater once both were 25 dollars and took moments to replace now the main fridge since mywife wanted stainless had a kenmore elite what a pice of junk lasted 6 years and the kenmore elite stove anytime we used the self clean it would break it did come with a 5 year warranty the guy said if we would have had to pay for the board it would be 400 plus labour then one day I woke up to a burning smell went to the kitchen the stove wasnt even on and there was smoke pouring out of the back where the controls and the board is its gone

I just replaced the control board on my LG double door myself. The board was $350 and simple plug and play connections. Back up and running fine.

Hey Ben very inspired by your journey, so much so that I’m starting my own appliance repair company, I actually have my first ever repair in front of me currently, it’s a samsung fridge , gorgeous fridge, but it’s reading error 84c , and through my research I found that I’m going to have to replace the compressor, my question to you is this, is there a quick course I can take to get epa certified with Freon ?

No, and asking for a quick guide on that is a recipe for a massive disaster. You need training and coursework for that, and some practice fridges to work on. Unless you do it right, you're going to get a call back, an unsatisfied customer, and a refund of whatever they bought. Sealed system repairs are on the most difficult edge of repairs, and not something you want to do without a lot of experience and work on. Its why I have ~150 videos on repairs, and only 1 on refrigerant. I won't even touch it without more experience.

I have an update on the Maytag commercial grade washing machine. The agitator base is plastic and strips out with a heavy load. Thus unbolting the agitator assembly when doing a load of laundry. I was told by the repairman this is a common issue. I am not impressed so far, this is less than 6 months after purchasing.

Yup. Thats why I made the videos - Make sure to take care of the non-sealed system problems, then show what a sealed system failure should look like to confirm.
