The LG V40 ThinQ is the first 5-camera smartphone to hit the U.S. market. Ultra-wide, wide and telephoto lenses combine to give it more versatility than any other smartphone camera ... in theory. The real-world experience is somewhat different, but the V40's real problem is likely to be the price LG wants at release. Join me for the LG V40 Review!

As a longtime LG user and advocate ( G2 and V20 owner here) this phone ( V40 ) sadly pushes me a bit to the Sony XZ3. The LG V20 is the best value for money in the last couple of years. Hell it still works like a charm. Just upgrade the V20 specs, make it thicker ( larger battery ), with more frequent software updates and you have a winner. No one should pay $900+ for a phone.

Theres not much reason to update, I have a v30, its still the best all rounder atm V40 has 5 cameras but the primary shooter is now 12mp so quality isn't as good as the v30(g7 aswell) The Gcam app makes the v30s camera the best in resolution and overall quality. The 3300mah is a bit small for such a powerful phone 3300mah is much more suited for v30 I would've liked a stock android option 3 very good cameras(g7 style and a decent front cam)

I know it's not the popular view, but I believe that Michael Fischer is way better than MKBHD now. Marques focuses mainly on the video quality, but his videos feel repetitive nowadays. Fischer's, on the other hand, feel exciting. Like them both, but Michael Fischer will be my preference when it comes to choosing the better KZbinr.

I watch MKBHD for video recording quality while I watch Michael Fisher videos both on Mr Mobile and previously Pocketnow for his unbias review and perfectly scripted presentation. For me it's ok for each tech KZbinr to have their own style of presentation. If it's not your cup of tea then keep looking, there must be some other reviewer out there that will be more suited to your taste.

Hello Michael, Ed here with living dadly. So glad to see your review on this phone. I have always had a curiosity with the LG V line, as they have this reputation as "The content creators dream phone." The camera always seem to be a draw, along with the DAC system, but these features seem to come at cost, as the package always comes off as half done. This year looks to be no different. But so far, there are many conflicting reviews on the LG V40 which lead me to believe that personal experience, as is the case with most tech, with be the overall differentiator on this phone. But I will give this to LG, at least they are trying to stay competitive and come out punching with some good jabs. That camera combination is seriously a really good effort. Just don't know if that price measures up. Solid review as always.

Very clean review as always, Mr. Mobile. I'm a bit disappointed with the V40 if I'm being honest. I've owned both the V10 and V20, they were some of my favorite phones I've ever used. Replaceable battery, IR blaster, quad DAC, etc; The lg flagship series always tried to break the mold and give you more in a world that wanted to give you less. But this iteration? There's nothing that separates it from the pack enough for me to justify that $900 price tag. The only thing that really sets it apart are the cameras, only one of which (it seems) produces nice photos. Hopefully some software tweaking and price dropping will give it some help.

I super appreciate them still giving the high quality DAC in the 3.5mm jack. But i still don't see a reason that my next phone once my V20 dies, won't just be another V20. I have a replacement 10,000mah battery, which i comsume most of on an average day, and I use the IR blaster almost daily. Nothing I am getting from "upgrading" make up for what I would be losing leaving the V20.

Agreed! I have an LG v20 with a 6700 mAh battery and absolutely love it. Having a replaceable battery as well as the wide angle lens were the two big selling points for this phone. So the negatives ? - smudges ; buy a case, like 96% of all people -lightweight ; o dear, less weight, oh the horror -non metalic feel ; steel frame in glass sandwich , like all other top tier phones -small battery ; cant argue with that, except that this phone sill last more than a S9 with bigger battery -cameras dont capture the same pictures in equal conditions; did you ever herd of a concept that different lenses produce different results in equal conditions This is the first Mr.Mobile review that i dont like.

If LG would simply bring back the replaceable batteries, I would buy another phone from them in a heart beat. The fact that they abandoned the power users to chase Samsung and Apple will be their downfall. The LG v20 is a photographer and gamers dream, but the software held it back. While I was able to correct a lot of the issues myself, it would definitely help if it worked well out of the box. One day the Snapdragon 820 is going to become obsolete and I will have to upgrade. Hopefully LG corrects this before it's too late for them as a company.

Bad review, he's complaining about the cameras not being consistent when used all at the same time.. you're supposed to use one according to the situation.. and about wanting to use the wide angle camera at night.. guess what? At LEAST they have a wide angle! So how can you compare that to others which only have 1 camera? Didn't make sense at all.. And complaining about the small battery but did not mention the fact that the phone is the most lightweight and thin phone of all the flagships, hence smaller battery size (and it also did in fact last all day long). I'm starting to believe Mr. Mobile is very biased and favoring his big partners that give him ad dollars more. Pocket Now had a totally different experience and review (actually preview), as well as many other reviewers, getting more in depth with the features and not just simply nit-picking weird things. Really used to think Mr. Mobile was a good, honest, and fair reviewer.. now I'm unsubscribing... By the way you didn't talk about features like the new AR animations on the camera.. so disappointing..

LG does a horrible job marketing their phones. I sold my Pixel 2 XL and got a G7, and I was surprise with the build quality, size(slightly bigger s9 but smaller than s9+), sound quality, screen brightness, and camera functions. It's a solid phone and if I could do it over again I wouldn't get the pixel 2xl. I wouldn't even get the pixel 3. If the v40 is the same as the G7 but with extra features, then it's highly under rated. The battery is a negative though. Battery life suffers because of the bright lcd panel and the boom box speakers. You would think they would put in a bigger battery because of that but they didnt. But the truth is, everybody is charging their phone at the end of the day anyway. And this phone charges 50% in 30 minutes. That's quick.

I couldn't agree with your intro more. LG is great...on paper. Good ideas, but a complete lack of any sort of quality control ruins the actual device. I also can't understand the notch. Usually it's to get more screen space, and is bad enough when there's also a chin, but the V40 also has a top bezel. The notch isn't needed.. I bought the Note 9 F variant for $820, flashed the TMO modem so I have WiFi calling, and I'm pretty happy with it so far. The copper color looks great.

I love you Michael and I LOVE your videos...but I gotta say you're being unfair. So the wide angle cam isn't perfect all the time....is any phone's non-main camera? Does ANYONE else even offer the wide angle cam? Forget the Wide Angle cam.....does anyone else offer you ALL the useful but slowly-being-phased-out features like the headphone Jack (WITH the HQ DAC) -AND the SD card slot -AND the IP68 -All in one phone? This video is unfairly nitpickey at features that ALL other phones not named a Galaxy s/note don't have One Plus: No headphone jack, no SD, no IP 68 Pixel: No SD, headphone jack, ONE camera (i.e. no wide angle cam) Moto: No IP68, no headphone jack and inferior cameras *iPhone: NONE OF THE ABOVE BUT YOU RELEASED A VIDEO SAYING YOU LOVE IT!* tl;dr this is an unfair and unnecessarily harsh video on the V40. Look I get it LG isn't perfect and does a lot of dumb stuff. I lived through the bootloop nightmare and even now, the V30 is an inferior device to the Galaxy S9+ (especially it's very rough feeling software)....but please give a little credit where due.

some Asus phones offer wide-angle cameras, but the point he is making is that the note9 and xs offer optimized, overall fantastic user experiences to their customers. as in, the hardware and software work perfectly with one another to make people enjoy using those phones. he can't say the same about the V40 because it's just not true. you have to remember, good specs does NOT equal a good user experience. SD cards substantially slow down your phone, nearly every flagship except Oneplus is water resistant (and it's still technically spill resistant without a rating), and the camera on this phone can't even beat the OG Pixel. Having three cameras is versatile but the quality still needs to be worked on. Oneplus may not have some features but it's a hell of a lot cheaper, pixels may not have multiple camera or a headphone jack but it's the most seamless software experience available on an android phone and will have a camera so good it will hold up years to come. and then Moto... you get what you pay for. at the end of the day he gave the v40 credit where it was due, when it came to things like the quad DAC and earpiece quality and whatever. but if you want an expensive android there's almost no reason to buy a v40 over a pixel 3 or note9 unless you just really need that quad DAC

Guys the LG V20 doesn't have OLED and LED is the same essentially as LCD it's a LCD panel. The ghost/temporary (not permanent like OLED) burn-in can be fixed by turning screen off for mins and using apps to alternated colors. It's not a big deal and doesn't compare with OLED burn-in any OLED device will have burn-in down the road it will happen no matter what LCD doesn't suffer from this and never will due to it's different design. You guys are just trying to trash a innovative company. Why don't you just go buy the new iPhone that have charging problems and anytime a new software update comes out something screws up and glitches till it's fixed. Btw LG Display (LG subsidiary) is now the 2nd OLED supplier for Apple Samsung being the 1st. LG is just as capable.
