Seriously, you and Matthew Moniz are the only reviewers giving constructive and valuable feedback on devices. You focus mainly on user experience. I was ecstatic when you said "just touch the screen"!!!! I get the feeling that IT companies are not really pushing forward with the technology. They want to harvest our money with already know solutions but just implemented in a different way. As you mentioned, you pay huge amount of money for the same solution from 2013 - ridiculous. And where's the solution called "eye scroll"? This was great! That's why I have a hard time finding a new phone. I am 100% happy with my HTC 10, but I am sort of stuck with it. I wanted to buy Pixel 3 - turned out it is not available in my country (Poland). Then, I wanted to switch to Huawei P20 Pro - still too expensive and it lacks some features that I want (e.g. wireless charging). Finally, I decided that OnePlus 6T - found out that there is not official distributor in Poland and again in case of any issue I have to send it abroad. At this point, I am really frustrated.

Social Journey It’s a gimmick. It’s lower than a notch, therefore taking more screen real estate than a small notch like the on the oneplus one or regular mate 20. You can’t darken that area because you’d lose too much screen. By putting it further from the edge, there’s more chance to hide a usefull information. There’s absolutely no benefits over a small notch.

One thing I'll say about LG V30 is the best phone I've ever owned. I've had Galaxy notes I've had a lot of Motorola's. This phone has consistently worked great for almost 2 years. It doesn't have the craziest features or software but it's solid the battery life is still great after 16 months. It's never slow down like my Samsungs. It's a great phone. It will probably last a few more years if I let it. Samsung phones get shittier the longer you own them - something all phone reviewers never have to deal with. this is my favorite KZbin channel that reviews phones. It's the best. And the most thoughtful as towards long-term phones. If I stick with the Android world I'm sticking with an LG. I think that very fact that this phone has been so great for so long makes the brand of LG a lot more valuable to real phone users and should be rewarded. If you replace your phone every 6 months two at most a year Samsung may be more interesting. to real humans who can't afford to spend $1,000 on a phone every 6 months - I sure wish phone reviewers would quit recommending them over the long term high quality phones from LG and Motorola.

Am I the only one that is super freaking impressed by the technology. I mean, its freaking MINORITY REPORT!!!!!! I have been waiting years for that technology to come but I never thought it would come to a phone and now that it has I think it is the coolest thing in the world! I hope they improve on it and don't ditch the idea like they ditched their modular phone.

I tried out air motion on a demo phone at Best Buy. I couldn't get it to work AT ALL for about 5 or 6 min. But once I got it, it became very natural and easy. I ordered a G8 from Verizon that should be here in a couple days, and I think it'll be super easy to use after just a little time. It will become natural.

Outside of the hand gesture feature, it still looks like a solid flagship. It's not like that gimmick takes anything away from the device. And thank LG for being one of the final OEMs to offer a headphone jack in a flagship. This phone will be an absolute steal a year from now when its $350.

Have you ever been in this situation when someone in front of you do something embarrassing in a way makes you feel embarrassed more than him/her! That's exactly what I felt when I saw their G8

Recepie for Good Phone in 2019/2020 -6" qhd amoled screen ( Good qiality) - Slim bezels ( can have notch but not pixel style ) - sonic finger print in the screen - good selfie camera with optical stabilisation - stereo speakers ( razor phone quality) - headphone Jack with HIFI dec - 1 but really really good advanced camera with amazing stabilization ( go pro hero 7) - minimum 4000 MAh battery with fast charge and wireless super charge. - up to date specs and storage options ( minimum 128 GB)) - plain version of android. And we all know that can be done. Cool review as usual.

You have a good point, for the most part, but I disagree that all it has to stand out are a couple gimmicks. As an audio enthusiast, the dac/amp with 75 sound volume steps is still unmatched anywhere on the smartphone market. And once you play tracks with that much control over volume, it will be a deal breaker if not present on other phones. But thanks for throwing rocks at LG, that means we can continue to purchase them at a discounted price a few months after the launch. Hope that Samsung check clears through real nice. Might want to take a look at what MKBHD did, he brought a Galaxy S10 in the middle of his LG impression as a shameless plug. Talk about pushing the boundaries.

I think the whole hand recognition thing really is about testing and establishing a new way to interact with technology. Once people get used to it, LG will probably use it for their TVs, where it makes a lot more sense.

For me, the Quad DAC will always be a deal-maker, and the lack of a headphone jack a deal-breaker. Shame this does not factor into your verdict of the G8

It looks like a nice phone. My first impressions from it are good and I really enjoyed all the "gestures" while using it on the premiere in Barcelona.

At it’s current situation, all what LG needs is: 1. Stock Android UI with LG apps wherever required (Camera, Audio equalisers etc) 2. 4000 or higher mAh battery that ATLEAST stands rigorous 1 day use. Just these two things and competitive pricing will turn the tables for them.

Respect to LG. They're like the mad scientist trying stuff in their basement. I'm a Sammy Boi but LG has a special place in my heart.

I really like LG for what they do best. As right now, I'm writing this from my desktop PC with an LG ultrawide monitor, while the living room behind me has an LG 4K TV. I don't necessarily love them, but I like them and keeping them, they are nice. Unfortunately, their mobile branch leaves me cold every single time. LG G6, I had it for 3 months, had to sell it, because battery life was just terrible. Tried the LGV30, but I had some call quality and signal strength issues. Returned it. I won't even try this year, I'll just wait until it's gonna be like $220 on Amazon, unless there will be some Chinese brand budget by then, that will surpass it even at that price.

Well, we have come full circle. In 2013 phones were overloaded with features. Then they started to loose these features for performance and easier software updates. And now phones again start to have more (unnecessary) features.

The hidden speakers and hemoglobin sensor for high security authentication makes this phone stands out. The G8 is now OLED. Glad to have an option that isn't the mountains of bloatware peddled by Samsung.

Kind of what the G7 ought to be. Bigger battery plus OLED. This is basically a V35 with one or two added features. I would definitely buy because I love the DAC on LG phones.

best review of Lg g8! was waiting for your honest review. and yes I agree with you, this device will flop very hardly and one step down from reality. but hey lg's new air gesture would be cool if it's 2nd/3rd generation upgrade come.

Common guys .. It is a pre production device . give it a time before it's final release .. It has all features like a flagship .. Qhd oled display, primary which has f1.5 aperture like s10 and wide angle lens which has f 1.9(even better than s10) .. Stereo speakers with added boombox effect . lots of video options like 4k hdr, 4k 60 fps plus amazing manual camera and video controls. 32bit hifi quad dac, 3d face unlock is also there . new way of interaction if you feel like a gimmick but it is cool to have if lg can perfect it with software updates before final release . if lg can price this like 650 or 700 usd . it is bang for buck i would say . i don't understand why reviewers are bashing this as if s10 has brought all new great phone . it's basically a lg v40 with new design on the front(except it is similar to notch) and new processor and new gimmick like wireless reverse charge that's all and people are praising those phones like anything

I’ve had the g6, g7 and LG V40 which I love. The G8 doesn’t even begin to do it for me. It’s too gimmicky for me. I’m reading and doing things; not playing. I don’t want to be fussing the phone. Keep it in the labs for five years until the tech is refined as i can see this in a very state and just moviong your hand you flip a page in a good book. It might time to return to the iPhone. Android experience - i’ve done my day now.

I can see the hand gestures being useful, assuming it'll work with dirty hands - picture a mechanic with oily grime on his hands wanting to manipulate his phone - but I don't see myself using it much. For nearly every use case I would be actually holding my phone, so touching the screen or using the volume buttons would be a much faster and efficient way of doing things. But the hand unlock is something I really like. I prefer rear fingerprint sensors (under display sensors need to mature a bit more), so being able to unlock the phone while it is lying on a table is a huge plus.

Nailed it! You also forgot LG pioneering the knock knock feature. That and the wide angle camera were what got me falling in love with them but I'm tired of them being content playing follower, it's time to leave LG for fresher pastures. #oneplus7pro

LG are like Citroën back in the 70's, trying weird for the sake of weird. I have (and love) my G6 and my contract is up in September so I have time to see how the G8 pans out.

This g8 looks Awesome. The screen has a built in speaker. It has hand recognition. The 0hone looks great. So think they should of made a water drop notch. And the finger print scanner under the screen. And the other features IT has is sick. I'm definitely a getting this phone
