She really doesn't know what borderline personality disorder is or what it actually looks like in person. I have BPD. My best friend has BPD. We were both diagnosed by our drs and therapists. Being a liberal is NOT a symptom of BPD. Being transgender is NOT a symptom of BPD.
@SpecialBlanket4 ай бұрын
None of those are criteria obviously, but it's well known that people with BPD are more likely to modify their appearance more frequently and drastically. I think it's sometimes related to taking control over yr body after trauma, and also a kind of stress relief. And trans ppl are more likely to be abused and this develop trauma disorders.
@ScarletFox0394 ай бұрын
@@SpecialBlanket Well known? How about not known at all. Neither my friend nor I nor anyone else I met who were diagnosed with BPD had drastically modified their appearance on a regular basis. Also, queer people are more likely to get abused, and therefore do indeed develop trauma disorders. BPD though isn't inherently a trauma disorder. There are people who have BPD and have never gone through trauma. Scientists are still figuring out what causes mental disorders. And because queer people receive more abuse, they're more likely to see a therapist where all kinds of disorders are discovered. If it was more normalized to see a therapist and everyone had a therapist like they have a family doctor, then BPD and many other mental disorders would be seen on a much larger scale. The problem is a lot of people don't seek out treatment because of videos like Arielle's that stigmatize it.

@SarastistheSerpent4 ай бұрын
@@SpecialBlanketI’m sure that’s true, but as you say, changing your appearance isn’t a symptom of BPD. And when people with BPD do change their appearance, it has little to do with trauma, and much more to do with distorted self image and lack of identity. Borderline sufferers have _extremely_ skewed self perception due to radical black and white thinking, and while this can manifest in people changing their appearance often, it is by no means a universal, and not a trait of the illness. I have BPD (and sadly have been hospitalized numerous times because of it), and I have looked basically exactly the same since I was a teenager (I’m currently 27).

I'm trans and autistic, let her make a video about that. There is actually a higher correlation between these two, as the theory is that autistics don't have the same constrictions when it comes to understanding societal enforcement of gender and gender norms.

@@thevoidbenderthat's awful. I'm autistic and trans as well (I mean nonbinary) but I don't think its because "I don't know any better!!!" "Oh autistic people can't comprehend the difference between a man and a woman!!!" This lady sucks, and I'm tired of the babying with autism. My brother is also autistic but he was diagnosed way earlier than me so he was treated like a toddler until he turned 16. Autism doesn't mean brain dead !!!
@truthseeker92494 ай бұрын
@@tessamiller9770 (high five) I too am Autistic and Non-Binary. I'm also bisexual, plus I have tattoos. Everything about me is offensive to SOMEONE. Autism doesn't mean brain dead or babyish. But there are some people like my mother who push too hard in the opposite direction. She forced help on me to fix me even though she never used that word. The fact that I struggled in school, was sad all the time and didn't really want to open up to anyone....like most Autistic people in general and also like most young children and teenagers, all of that meant I really needed help and I got it no matter what I said. Therapy, trips to the neurologist and worst of all medication. All of this to help me. Growing up I realize now what that really meant is my mom couldn't handle me. I was too different and too difficult for her so she wanted to fix me and make me as normal as possible so that my struggles would stop causing her any inconvenience. Many times I wished I was never born because since that's the way things were between obviously I'm not the child she wanted and obviously I ruined her life by being born. I still believe that deep down but don't cry about it anymore...much. So while I agree that we shouldn't be treated as babies, we shouldn't be forced to be normal or be forced to grow up too fast either. Just let us all be ourselves.
@SebastianEverett-x2q4 ай бұрын
@@tessamiller9770 it's not that we don't "get" it and more that we don't see the reason for these arbitrary social constructs. When most people find out I'm autistic, it's either we can tell bc you're weird/similar to us or they treat me different. Like come the fuck on, I'm still the same person.

It's utterly absurd that her TWO examples were... Queer people who support Palestine being a case of "impulsivity" ENTIRELY on the basis that she thinks it's "wrong" and therefore none of them could have possibly thought about their stance. And then for instability she gave a clip from a jackass "reporter" doing one of those surprise interviews in the middle of a conflict. Like, I don't have the FULL context of what was happening, but whatever that was it was not some random outburst from the person in an otherwise chill environment, it was an aggressive, high tension situation the OTHER PERSONS created. Like, if that's the best she's gonna come with... she probably should have taken a couple extra rounds of drafting. And hey, you know who DOES show a bunch of signs of impulsivity and instability? A guy who regularly goes off script and has an insatiable need to attack those he views as opposing him? Fucks stuff up all the time because he's ruled by second to second emotions and hates thinking things through even a little bit? Now, I don't ACTUALLY think Trump has BPD, partially because that would mean he is less culpable for his actions. I think he's just an entitled fuckin brat. But was just a handy example of ACTUAL behaviors that match closer to the diagnostic criteria.

I’m gay, and a trans dude, but I’ve been on testosterone for well over two years so at this point I really don’t get people questioning my gender in public anymore. I dress and act pretty stereotypically straight, so nobody immediately can tell I’m queer in my day to day life. One day, while I was at work, a woman noticed I had nail polish on and asked with disgust why I was wearing it. When I said I just liked how it looked, she told me that I was gay and that she didn’t want me touching her items because I was gay. She then told me to go to hell once I gave her the receipt. I was wearing nothing else that would’ve indicated my “gayness”. Granted, this woman was clearly mentally disabled, but somebody who understands the consequences of saying things like that taught her and modeled for her that that was okay to do to some 17 year old cashier. But yeah, Arielle! Being “one of the good ones” will totally earn you points with these people. They definitely don’t hate you just as much as they do people who are visibly queer!

Fun fact, some people with Autism will end up being diagnosed with BPD instead. These people then have to fight tooth and nail to prove it all the while being threatened with being sent to psyche ward. I've read a few accounts of this on my tumblr feed. So her breaking down what is BPD with other from the content they put out, which most content creators don't put their full selves into content but that's another discussion, is less accurate than doctors that are already inaccurate with their professional diagnosis.

Also, a slight correlation between autism and gender dysphoria is sometimes suggested (yet to be proven, but from my own observations it could be true) - in which case the chance of her misdiagnosing transgender people might be even higher.

its also harmful to tell people they have bpd since a lot of the symptoms are also signs of multiple other disorders and illnesses. it will make the person think "oh i must have bpd" when they might have something else, and will stop them from getting the treatment they need for the disorder they actually have.
