Not to freak you out, but I am from the semi-distant future. Nike Air Mags still haven’t had a general release. We have no hoverboards and an app called TikTok is ruining any and all hope for a better future.

The intro was AMAZING. It was....with the eyes of a late teen, "As good as the movie"....and then the game began. My nephew had the screen gems pack A500+. God I wanted the hoverboarding to be good. Like any of the skateboarding, BMX or other games of the time. But no. Never got past the first level. Life was too short.

Wow, this game brings back memories of playing Terminator 2. That also was a movie tie-in consisting in like 5 levels, each one based on a specific scene and each one with completely different gameplay. It even included a sliding tile puzzle.

Dos cutscene art is so funny in how it can be so good and so terrible at the same time. I've always found that fascinating. They can have really great composition and well rendered characters and then suddenly the perspective goes all wonky or something. Or a character's head is way too small. Or there's just some weird pixel choice where an artist chose a strange color to make a tooth.

3:40 - Of course, that's just the worst case scenario; the results could merely be localized to our own galaxy. Seriously, play Telltale's Back to the Future: The Game if you want a *good* BTF game. Hell, it's even been labeled as the official continuation of the story after the movies (and it's really good, in my opinion)!

The Master System version was a Woolworths bargain bin staple for years in the UK, could never get rid of the bloody thing!!! :D But in all fairness, most British developed movie licenses were just a collection of mini games in the '80s and early '90s. Still a better game than Back to the Future III tho.

At least in the C-64 version, you don't have to complete either the "get Jennifer out of the house" or the puzzle level. When it asks you if you want to try again, you can select "No" and go to the next level, which is what I usually did with the puzzle. (If you beat these levels, you get an extra life or something.) There's one point in the "bad 1985" level where if you pick up the newspaper from Strickland's porch he starts shooting you immediately. If you don't pick up the paper, he waits until you walk by him and THEN starts shooting. I could never figure out how to get by without getting shot.

To my knowledge, the only good Back To The Future game was released on the SNES...in Japan only. Yeah it's kind of odd seeing that it was such an "American" thing, however Japan was still having their huge "we love western culture!" kick that was in the 80's and early 90's. So I could see how they saw the appeal of releasing it there...but given the nature of the movie and it's pop culture impact, it seems rather odd that we never got it. One thing to note about LJN, did you know that the Friday The 13th NES game was made by Atlus? Yup, that Atlus. Demon Souls Atlus.

Great review you were bang on the money with this one, what a wasted opportunity. I still have this game for my Amiga and when I saw the intro with the Delorean along with the theme tune pumping out I high hopes. Then I started playing the game and thought WTF? It was the same thing with the Amiga version of Clive Barker's game "Nightbreed". It like they just didn't what to do with movie licence tie-ins.

I had a version of BTTF II for the Amstrad 6128+ CPC when I was a kid, which is essentially the same game as this, but a bit slower with slightly worse graphics. The HIll valley levels are in black and white, not color as they are here, and color would have helped as I would have understood what some of objects in the level were, a bit better. I often found it hard to complete the first level as I kept getting stuck on the stairs of the courthouse and not being able to move and having to restart the game, not that Marty ever got as far as the courthouse on the hoverboard in the movie. I always thought those letters you collected did something but can't remember. I was never able to complete that 1955 puzzle either, no matter how many times I tried. As non faithful to the movie as it is, it was better than the BTTF III game which was just used the wild west setting and just used the movie as a tie in to make a western game which bared little resemblance to the movie. Heck, even the music didn't sound anything like what you hear in the movie. Also in no time in the third movie, do I remember the doc riding a horse while shooting people and trying to avoid people shooting at him. It wasn't a bad game though, just should never have been called a Back to the Future game.

i bought the U.S version of this game back when it came out. i don't remember anything about it, just that it had a lot of still images from the movie. I don't remember if it was this game or the Konami version that you mentioned. Also I thing the U.S version had the theatrical movie poster art on the box cover, but i can't remember. I do still have the game complete somewhere at my parents house. By the way, do you or anybody here know how to clean floppy discs. My Amiga Drive doesn't read disks anymore. It just shows a black screen with an error message. I did buy a used disc drive along with workbench discs. It worked, but as soon as I put one of my original disks in the new drive, it started to give error messages.
