Lazy Game Reviews Yeah, seem to be the case; after a little research I came across the patent for the Gunn and found TAC Systems did not have any ownership on the hardware, purely the name. That, coupled with the fact there's no molded watermark in the shell just screams generic parts. On a side note, TAC Systems began processes to take out a patent on something called PUSHFAX in '97 but never replied to the patent office, they seemed to have liquidized in around '98 leaving all their patents abandoned. Very odd.

They couldn't have been terribly expensive, as one of my friends got it for me as a gag gift, and none of made a lot of money those days. I remember being maybe 10 or 11 years old, and begging my dad to buy me one of these from the local Babbage's (now known as GameStop). The controller couldn't sold all that well, I recall them being priced on the clearance rack for less than $5 at that time, and this was around late 95 or 96... Needless to say, low-priced or not, dad said no, so I never did get a chance to try one out, and seems to be for the best. I did, and still do like the concept though, being a fan of arcade classics like Lethal Enforcers, Area 51, and the like, so several years later when Time Crisis 2 and 3 came out for PS2, I purchased both games with the GunCon 2 controllers. There was also Resident Evil: Dead Aim that used the GC2 as well, much in the same manner as the Demon Gunn was meant to be used, though the GC2's D-pad is definitely an improvement over whatever that joystick thing on the Demon Gunn was, and not to mention that the GC2 was actually a light gun too...

The original MSRP, according to a PC store I asked about this (because I had seen this before watching this video), was about $30. If you bought it off of eBay (never, not EVER do this), they'd be making at least a 400% profit because the value of the joystick is no more than $20 now. I'm really sorry for finding that for ya. :p Funny thing: I bought some of these at my usual thrifts a few years ago and sold them for a few bucks. Then a few years later, a bunch more showed up locally; apparently someone found these in a warehouse in California and sold them on Goodwill (which is where many of my sources get their stuff.) The online prices on these skyrocketed around that time. Did you notice how strangely similar this thing and a standard Dreamcast lightgun actually are? A trigger, a button, and a stick / directional pad. Except all DC guns had the d-pad in a decent location instead of ... this. Oh, did you try out that Sims game I sent you? I'm curious to see if it was in English or whatever the language in the packaging was (Thai? Arabic? I forget.)

I actually had this thing, got it from a computer convention my family took me to. Of course, being a kid, i just bought it because it looked like a badass all chrome pistol minigun, and I had no notion of what I was actually getting myself into, or the fact that this thing wouldnt just magically turn doom into a lightgun game. I actually remember the 'Computer Life' article the quote is from, it's not part of a dedicated review of this thing but an article on Building the Ultimate PC. I'll have to see if I can find the magazine itself. If you have some sort of searchable archive, search for the blurb, not the name, as I think the gun's name was in flux since they wanted to call it 'Doom Gun' but id Software wasn't having that. It really was the ultimate PC, BTW. Not only did it have this thing, but a dedicated Golf controller too! You never see other 'Ultimate PC' articles with those! Cover featured both of those controllers in addition to the PC itself.
