Excellent video. As a former Nintendo QA tester and CS representative, I was genuinely surprised to see something like this. We routinely received tech-support calls for old hardware like the Virtual-Boy and even the original NES, but I was totally unaware that something like this existed! If someone called the Nintendo CS hotline and told me about this product, I would have assumed it was an unlicensed knock-off. Very cool. BTW Clint: You know what game could have been fun to use that flight stick with? DESCENT!!! Please do a review on that amazing series. Thanks!

Speaking of retro FPSes and joysticks: I used to beat my friends in Duke3D deathmatches with a Sidewinder 3D Pro, because I'd map the rudder twist to strafing left and right. With the right wrist angle, I could almost perfectly circle strafe everyone with no pausing to pick up a mouse and move it back on the pad. When the up and down aim is taken care of for you, that setup was brutally effective, especially at the ridiculous speeds of those games. ;)

LOL!!! I also had one! After reading your post, I to may have purchased it at Big Lots. Where-ever I picked it up, I remember it being affordable (felt like it was worth the low-dollar "gamble"). I have always played flight sims. I don't remember it being a very good stick, sloppy feeling, but passable and any stick is better than no stick. The crazy "guard" made me think of a sword grip... huge waste of plastic. Thanks for the video Clint!!!
@emmettturner94523 жыл бұрын
@@joshuaharlow4241 I picked up mine at Big Lots too but I was also aware of it years earlier at Software Etc, Babbages, GameStop, etc. In particular, I saw it at Software Etc in Bluefield, WV back in 1997/1998. Even before it launched there was an N64 website that later became part of IGN where they mentioned it was coming along with Nintendo-branded wireless IR headphones. I picked up another at Goodwill many years late4 but sold it in 2015 for less than the cost of shipping… with free shipping… and then the dude balked at me when he realized I didn’t have a PC with a game port anymore and therefore could not have tested it. It’s not like I didn’t still have my boxed one to swap if there were an issue and it WAS tested… many years earlier. Dude was being a jerk.

The odd thing is that it has the typical PC joystick setup, though, with none of the N64's buttons.
@CommodoreFan647 жыл бұрын
I think this was simply Nintendo's way of dipping it's toes in the PC waters so to speak, and after seeing the piss poor sales, and performance of this thing, they quietly backed out, as remember they also released a few Mario educational games for the PC like Mario Teaches Typing.
@uselessDM7 жыл бұрын
I don't know, wouldn't it miss a lot of buttons you would need for an N64 controller? I mean even racing wheels and so on still have all the buttons you normally have on their if you need them.

Benedikt perhaps it was for a certain game? Like start fox?
@pootisbear7 жыл бұрын
+KC Why would a game like star fox 64 need any use for a flight joystick? Star fox 64 is simple to control enough it's not like it's has any overtly realistic or difficult flight physics, this is clearly a peripheral meant for advanced flight simulators. The closest game I can possibly think of is pilotwings 64 but even that game really wouldn't call for something like this.

It really makes all the difference for me, as it reminds me of browsing the Internet 15 or 20 years ago and reading these news myself. It also shows that you understand your audience very well - I don't think the average LGR viewer wants to see stare at their favourite KZbinr the entire time, interrupted by pointless cuts every 3 seconds (no offense, you are lovely to stare at when it fits the content!). Clint, I've got to say that I really appreciate your original reporting on these stories. Too many KZbinrs just find stuff online and run with it as truth, but I appreciate you doing your homework and actually making calls and putting in messages to people to get people to comment on these topics. A lot of this stuff is really obscure, so putting in the effort to actually do original reporting is key. The quality of your videos (reporting, narration, editing) has really evolved over the years. Great stuff and happy to be a patron on Patreon.
