In solitaire your goal is to put the cards in order, king to 2, with alternating colors. Aces are put on the side. When you have a stack in order, you put it on an Ace. There are rules and diffrent ways to play, so remember Google is your friend. (or Bing perhaps).

I'll bet that this game, along with Minesweeper, helped create millions of PC gamers over the last two decades. I know a few people who, many years ago, had zero interest in computers, but when I showed them that they could play Solitaire, Minesweeper, and later, even pinball, they played and played. It was a big step in the evolution of computers into the glorious pieces of technology they are today. Super entertaining, as always. My father used to go nuts for the bouncing cards at the end of the game. At that point he had set the screensaver to 1 minute, released the "turbo" on the 386, ad left the screen saver pop up in the middle of the bouncing animation. When he moved the mouse the screen saver had messed up the frame buffer, and all the bounce was happening on a screen full of artifacts. I think he still wishes he had a 386 to play the old solitaire.

when i was a kid i like to watch those cards bounce and hoping that the trails would covered up all the green background especially the upper right corner which is very difficult to pull of .... that the only reason i would play solitaire for hours on end until my parents pull the plug out...

lmao i have been dealing with insomnia lately also.. earlier tho i actually sleep for like 5 hours,, to which after 2 days was awesome.. sleepyness causes you to do strange things.. I totally support you just being you and uploading random videos btw.. it lets people get to know you better in a way.. plus its funny.. well to me it is.. doing things just because = win imo.. so long as no one gets hurt that is xD..

I might be mistaken, but I believe the closing effect is created by a special quirk in rendering. You see every game frame you must clear the screen, or else whatever is left from the last frame will still be there. So probably what the programmer did was just skip the clearing part, then moved each card based upon some sort of basic gravity physics. The black part is probably created by moving the card slower so that the card covers up the white part of it's previous frame and only shows the black outline. A very clever trick to create a cool effect on old computer hardware without having to uses process intensive screen copy functions.

I personally am a big fan of your Lets Plays. I love all of your snarky commentary plus you give a relatively good look at the actual game play. I still play Solitaire every now and then. On our first computer, it took the winning animation a solid 5-6 minutes to complete. The sad thing is, sometimes I'd sit there the whole time and watch it.

This has got to be the most addictive game of the ages on computers. There is never a time where when I decide it is time to shut down I don't think ah I'll play a quick game of Solitaire and then I lose the first game and decide to try again, lose again try again then you are sometimes on that bad streak that makes you furious. Win a game I then try to shut down but the button is something to click with the hand and not think with the mind because coming off the computer can be hard. If I have more time to spare I play Freecell where I continue my 100% streak of careful play to ensure I never lose a game. So far I'm over 300 games and not one single loss.

When I saw that you had uploaded a video about good old Solitaire, I just had to check it out! It feels like agessss since I last saw those deck of cards like that :o We've still got an old Windows 98 PC in the house, that I grew up playing some of my first PC games on, of which this was one of them! I think it still had roughly the same cards, design, etc, but slightly more of an updated feel for Win98! I used to play it a lot on my Windows XP PC too, and from time to time on my Windows 7 laptop here haha! (life story... sorry!) But yeah, you've gotta love the animation that plays when you beat Solitaire, that Mr. Cherry did a pretty awesome job back then! :)

The ending when you win was always the best part. I always liked to see how much of the screen got covered by the cards. I would get super excited when there was only the teeniest tiniest bit of green left in the upper left corner or when the screen was covered completely! Winning Solitaire in the newer Windows versions is lame. The cards just fall and shatter.
