Great explanation. Applies to so many other more difficult locks.

Working on this Abus and your video haS gotten me much closer, I'd like to add that alternating between cussing and sweet talking helps with this lock, before watching your video I thought this thing was destined for my fucket bucket but now feel like she might just b persuaded to give it up to me. Thank u

Very nice video!! I didn't see this until after I finally got mine open; but everything you covered was spot on! A week ago and I think I would've had mine open sooner. What finally worked for me (and I did it again just to make sure), was pin 5 wanted to be touched first, then 1, then 4 with counter rotation, then 1 and so on. I knew I was on track when I had to reset 1 after almost everything else! Thanks again for all the advise!! (by the way if you look at my picture post of my open, you'll see I didn't really have a vise handy. But that shackle is the long one and fits just perfect at the 6 o'clock position lol)

more nice stuff...I am a big fan of the 83 series!

Jeff Moss you and me both, my friend. Challenging enough to learn a lot. I just learned that there's a additional part you can buy so it works with any KIK. I might need to pick it up.

Just a friendly correction. Ive seen quite a few locksport guys get this backward so i feel like i should offer my help. The tolerances on the Abus are lower, not high. Blueprints typically will provide a nominal dimension and the tolerance. The tolerance tells you how much wiggle room is allowed as a deviation from nominal. In a machine shop, we use the terms "tight" or "loose". If its really far toward the "loose" side, we might say its "wide open" tolerance. So it may seem backward at first but if you had to make these parts it would start to make sense real quick. In conclusion, if you had a "high tolerance" as in a higher number e.g. +/- 0.005", that would be a loose tolerance and a sloppier product. If your tolerance number is lower e.g. +/- 0.0025, its a tighter tolerance, better quality, more difficult to manufacture, more expensive. Hope that makes sense!

nice vid, just wonder who make the keyway more wide?
@theejm34507 жыл бұрын
Tom xx No one. That 3000 keyway can easily be opened with a .040" thick pick.

+Leon's lockpad thank you! I'm happy how this one came out. Hopefully this will help some new pickers tackle this lock.

I've watched sooo many video I've tried so many times!! I've probably got 8-10 hours so far trying to open one of these my boss got a new lock for our trailer so I took the old one home to practice on coming from those clear locks that come with your first pick set I can open all 3 of the locks it came with fairly easy the master lock style I can open with one pin and I can take it open in half a second! But I absolutely cannot pick this abus 83 open for the life of me! I set the first pin (which I think is correct!) and can get the like 3-4 pins down and CLICK down goes PIN number 1!..maybe he need viagra because he can't stay up! And I can't get the lock to open!! I thought even a blind squirrel could find a nut! But hit mother loving damn this lock is whooping me!
