My memory (having personally experienced such events in the 90's) is that we (the adult nationalist population) genuinely were disallowed representation questioning in the period. Derry Girls takes the edge off the bitterness. Thank God we can laugh hard in 2022 - with Derry Girls leading the healing. Perfect.

Read an news report years ago. After the Lyric Theatre in Belfast was refurbished in 2011. Liam Neeson and James Nesbitt were invited to the reopening ceremony, having cut their teeth there as young actors. It was expected that they would be there for the photos and handshakes and be promptly away. No they stay for the whole event, hung around for about five hours, chating and enjoying the nostalgia. Says alot about their character.

(I also think he was the only Protestant you see casting a vote). I took that as a "nay" vote, especially because he was RUC, but was tormented. It was the Catholic Population that overwhelmingly supported the Belfast Agreement (say 90-95%). It was probably only about 40-45% of the Protestant population that voted Yes. If the showrunners wanted you to know Liam voted "yes", they would have showed that.
