I've followed this guy on Facebook as I'm in NY. He's SPOT ON. Middle class is dying. 70k salary can't even afford a home. I'll repeat, 70k salary cannot afford a home. You're either poor and living off the system (that's sluggish to change exactly for the reasons Larry says), or you're rich and can afford it. Larry's first appearance in my world was when he was talking about NY being the franchise capitol. No mom and pop shops. No local business. This is a result of the previous paragraph - only the wealthy can afford NY and therefore only the wealthy can afford to be business owners in NY, generally. We need to loosen up the reins to allow the middle class to rise. You got my vote, Larry Sharpe!

I agree, the low bar of the other candidates helped but still will not diminish the state by state ballot access initiative that it required of Gary's campaign. The two party system doesn't make this easy for other parties to achieve and that was still a victory in my book.

If the LP ran a competent candidate in 2016 we would’ve got even more. The party ran a moron between two of the most hated candidate in history. Don’t forget a 15 year old boy ran as “Deez nuts” and polled at 9% in North Carolina. That’s how bad this race was. So Gary was a right place right time.

18:58 Sharpe is correct, reversing the Civil Liberties Act is the morally and ethically correct thing to do, but we'll have to have a big shift in the philosophical understanding of the general populace before overturning the CRA and the 60 years of case law supporting it could even happen. It's a future goal, right now top priority is making sure no more liberties are limited or revoked while educating more people in the ideals of liberty so the needed cultural shift can and does happen.

It's fine, it never occurred to me that the cost would be a blocking concept to run for office. I wanted to know how it worked, so I put my name on a small ballot. In Indiana it was free to put my name on any primary ballot. From township board to governor. It's good to know, because you can try to run with little to no money. I'm an outsider to where I live, I've only been here for a few years. I'm also a volunteer firefighter. I did very little while running to campaign. I spent zero dollars. I still got 33% of the vote, I lost, but it was satisfying to see if I had put effort in it, I could've won a township seat. 3 seats were available. 4 people ran. 3 of the people have been on the seat for 20 years.

We’re talking about a Libertarian winning the top office in not a small potatoes state like Wyoming. We’re talking about *the* financial capital of the United States and one of the single biggest economic and cultural centers in the world. And a state considered a fundamentally ironclad Democratic fortress. Major shift. Even if he doesn’t win, and the rules don’t change to protect the two parties, he will significantly affect NY politics.

You don't have to be a libertarian to think Larry Sharpe is a good choice. When the Democrats are no longer liberal, and the Republicans are no longer conservative, Sharpe is a step up whichever camp you're in. Bryan Nichols that is the root cause yes. But what they were saying in the Supreme Court case was that the moment they wanted the baker to make a custom cake at that point they were engaging his individual artistic abilities. And as an artist the message of a gay wedding contradicts his religious beliefs. He also stated the baker, that his artistic message was complete in all the products that will ready to be sold. Which he was happy to sell. In addition the emphasis of his artistic beliefs with his religion he does not make Halloween cakes, divorce cakes, because those events contradict his religion.

So nice to see Libertarianism starting to take off, and I'm not even a Libertarian. We need more parties, more options. It would be great if the left could have their own version of this, as well - ANYTHING to break the hegemony of our two party system.

Benjamin .Heneberry it Is the left version of "this." Fiscally Conservative, Socially Liberal. Libertarianism occupies the middle ground, it IS the compromise, between two increasingly radicalized party platforms, that the nation needs.

Fucking hell, just had to add this to my favourites on KZbin to share around. Great interview Dave. I wish we had a thousand Sharpe's for every country to spread ideas and fight major parties. He's a fast, clear simple speaker. Good luck to him.

I've been a frustrated swing voter from Buffalo for my entire life. New York's Democratic machine has all but forgotten about it's second-largest city (and the rest of Upstate, for that matter). It's wonderful to hear ideas that involve kicking government back to the local level so that we're not subject to the whims of politicians who only know about us for snow and chicken wings. Are they all perfect? No, but that's how government is supposed to function; local governments are laboratories for states, and states for the nation. It beats the incredibly corrupt Buffalo Billion corporate welfare package that just lead to several bid-rigging convictions for contractors who are all major Cuomo donors. I'm excited to vote for Larry Sharpe in November, and I can honestly say that no gubernatorial candidate has ever gotten me to say that before.

"When people get scared, their first step is force, which means their first step is government." and the thought that "If it's the law, then it is by default righteous." Brilliant.

Why is it that Libertarian candidates like Johnson and Sharpe have great senses of humor!?!

Since many are Constitutionalists, you just explained why the US is in a bad place, culturally.

About the baker: as a private business owner and a laborer, he has the right to refuse service to anyone. However, as a consumer society, we have the ability to drive him out of business or force him to change. The government shouldn't get in the way of that process.
@podjun806 жыл бұрын
what do you mean by "ability to drive him out of business or force him to change" exactly?
@EbilSpaceDucky6 жыл бұрын
justsay no A boycott would force one of two things, he goes out of business, or he's "forced" to change to stay in business
@grumpycat_16 жыл бұрын
Or he just stays in business and makes less profit b/c of his faith based (or even "anti gay) choices.. Im fine with any of those outcomes as long as the govt doesn't come to his store with guns to make him "inclusive"
