Here is some progress on my Liberty Scrap Piecing Project, inspired by Karen at Just Get It Done Quilts. She makes really bright and joyful strips like this. The Liberty fabric is more subtle and incredibly beautiful. Using it in this way means I will never waste a single scrap! But what to make with them? Not sure yet, but just making them is enough for now!
I have a little shop where you can find the things I create here in my cottage in Northumberland, plus some treasures from my creative friends. The monthly newsletter will keep you informed of shop updates, the charity donation I make each month with your Ad Revenue, plus the prize draw details where one person on the mailing list will win a gift from the shop. So when you pop over to see the website, be sure to sign up to the mailing list!

Kate, so sorry about Norma’s loss. What a lovely and loving cat she was. I so enjoy your channel. My mum was born in Scotland and you put me in mind of my Scottish Nana whose name was Agnes like your granddaughter. I feel so at home visiting your channel and you are a good virtual friend for me as I too live alone with my miniature dachshund and am a quilter. Thanks for enriching my life from afar.

Oh you have to have many projects; they say that a change is as good as a rest, after all! So sometimes I crochet a doily or darn a sock or repair a bedspread that got a tear in it, and I refer to cotton dishcloths as my 'palate-cleanser' when I need a break from a more-challenging project. At least we'll never be bored, eh?

Enjoy watching you on Sundays!!! Your use of color is inspiring. When I have very skinny little bits of fabric I put them in a suet cage along with hair from my hairbrush and let the birds use them in their nests. I got the idea when I looked into a nest and saw a little piece of ribbon woven into the nest. Have a great week!

I do the same Diane ,but I do make sure my hair is in short pieces. I was horrified a couple of years ago to watch a camera in a blue tits box .the parent got human hair wrapped around its foot. It became trapped, human hair so strong .fortunately the owner of box managed to go in and sort it .I have been very cautious ever since ,I dread to think what harm I have caused previous to seeing the footage. I think it's still on utube .?

Thank you so much for all the hard work, I have learned so much and from those vlogs you recommend. Oh, I'm also knitting the mitred corner blanket! All this will go on hold once I can get out in the garden, so much to do and plant, here near Pershore, Worcs, UK ! Sylvia

Agnes's quilt is beautiful! Something I'm sure she'll treasure forever. Before you blink she'll be sewing with you and starting on her first quilt! I made a queensize quilt with the method Jenny uses for scraps. It is all batiks because I could never part with my scraps and whenever I saw a good sale on batik fabric I was compelled to "build my stash". I was making and selling tote bags at the time and saved every scrap. I did use some fat quarters when I realized that I was going to actually make a quilt - I like you need more than one project going - and the scrap blocks were my fill in. I did cheat and buy a 1/2 yard of yellow batik when I ran out of yellow scraps very early on. I backed it with linen and it is on my bed summer and winter it always cheers me up but if it gets too bright I flip it to the natural linen side for a bit. I'm going to start the leaders and enders - I always just used scrap pieces and sewed randomly just as easy to sew a quarter inch and make it productive! Thank you I'd never seen this before.

My newest stray cat looks very much like your 'helper'. I'm doing some crumb piecing while I am listening to you, so this video is quite appropriate! Karen and MoStar inspired me as well. Although I do take something special, like a flower, a tiny pirate head, animal head, and work it into the quilt, along with the occasional HST, or use a flying geese block that looks like a roof on a 'house'. Something to tell kids to look for! EDITED to add: I watched that video of Jenny at Missouri Star right after I had a bone in my left hand removed (it was very arthritic). Soooo...I couldn't put any pressure on my hand to hold a ruler down to cut...but Jenny saved me with the crumb quilting. I had shoe boxes of scraps that I merrily sewed together. I couldn't use my thumb, but I got the hang of holding small pieces of fabric between my index and middle fingers. I also learned to tie my shoes without using my thumb for a week or two. Much better now. I loved the crumb quilting so much! Memories. It's useful. It's beautiful.

An idea for your strip piecing..some time ago I made a quilt for my sister using strip sets similarly to those you are making. I sewed strips together to make a center square, then surrounded it with white. The next round was strip set, again followed by white. I continued this way until it was the size I wanted. You could, of course, use any color you wanted to replace the white I used. The binding was also scrappy. You could alternate your pink and blue if you wanted. Have lots of fun quilting!

Hi Kate, love your podcast and visiting with you. I wondered if your Liberty strips would make great sashing between solid color squares in a quilt, ie light/med blue. Also, if you never watched “Stitches by Julia”, you might want to take a peek. She is a wonderful creative lady too and has so many scrap ideas that might be of interest to you - to make beads, lace, fabric, etc. You give me great inspiration. Take care and all the best!! Sheila

Always such a wonderful treat to see Agnes' gorgeous quilt. I saw a video of a lady who sewed all the time and she took her little fiddly bits and in the early Spring she would lay small amounts of them outdoors. Bits of string and tiny fabrics. Her birds loved to scoop them up and add them in their nests. She thought it was such a wonderful thing she got to do for her birds. She said from time to time she has found nests that have blown from the trees and she gets to see little bits of well worn fabric tucked into the nests.

Hello Kate ~ Your projects have kept you company this winter. I noticed Agnes's quilt on the wall. It is looking spectacular. I finally bound my gnome Christmas table runner. The days I would pick up my granddaughters from school I would sit in my vehicle and sew (or read). I found the natural lighting was better for my eyes. I took another sewing class and I am currently working on Cathedral Windows. It will be a decorative pillow for my younger granddaughter. I have decided that the smaller projects are more likely to get done. (eventually) I can do a bit when I feel more in the mood to sew and feel as if I am accomplishing something. I guess I feel as if the finale is near! Do have a good week. Stay safe and healthy.

As I sit here knitting calmly Missy sitting on the arm of my chair waiting to be stroked watching you sew I, m at peace with the world. I've been going through other videos and came across taking care 9 where you talked about knitting technique. I knit quickly and do so by tucking my right needle under my arm, the left loose, I hardly have to move my fingers as I wind the wool over. It might be called Irish knitting but I, m scottish and this is how my mum taught me. I probably haven't explained it very well and I, m not confident enough to make a video of how I knit though I've been knitting for 65 ish years. Xx

I was watching Emma (Jones?) doing EPP with tiny pieces of fabric. I suddenly noticed the material itself, and I said, "Hey, I know that fabric! It's Liberty fabric!" She uses a different kind of pattern paper that can be left in the EPP. Actually, it isn't paper at all, is it? Anyway, I thought the tiny pieces she used were a strain on the eyes, but how beautiful when sewed together to make a pin cushion. Jenny Doan does fun sewing, scrap sewing, every morning before doing the normal stuff for the day.

Wrong size needle/thread ect. Emma has shown me I can try again and I'm really excited ,to try again x
