Imagine being Firefox and spending millions of man-hours across almost multiple decades, begrudgingly selling away pieces of its soul to Google just to stay afloat financially. Then some dipshit who can't even build a proper windows distro steals your codebase and slaps on a few extensions, and suddenly they're the FOSS darling that you burned yourself out to become.
@dante6003 жыл бұрын
@@ShadoFXPerino uhhh... I'm skeptical of your knowledge about open-source, forks and what they are. There's no such thing as "stealing" an open codebase. It's open, it's free (licensed under the Mozilla Public License). If Mozilla wanted to merge Librewolf into Firefox they could, they just don't want to. Also, it's not a matter of "slapping on a few extensions" when it's basically just removing the hassle to add them in the first place. And it's not based on default Firefox, but rather on Librefox. (not in active development anymore). Also, windows distros don't exist.
@ShadoFXPerino3 жыл бұрын
@@dante600 The word "distro" doesn't exclusively mean a Linux OS distro, it's short for "distributable", which in windows-world takes the form of a .MSI or .EXE file. Also, from their website "LibreWolf is always built from the latest Firefox stable source, for up-to-date security and features along with stability." Nothing regarding Librefox. It is basically nothing more than a script that reads from Firefox, applies a buggy diff that breaks windows support, and rebuilds. "Stealing" or not, this shameless low-effort cucking of Mozilla's goodwill means sooner or later Mozilla will go bankrupt, stop putting out security updates, and Chrome will become the only viable web browser.

allow me to introduce you to your new best friend, the *x86 security coprocessor* (branded: *Intel Management Engine* , *AMD Platform Security Processor / Secure Technology* ). Good luck, have fun escaping ;) The cheapest ways are *old x86* (old Intel or AMD CPU, preferably alongside a motherboard either supported by free software firmware or containing a true dated ROM BIOS chip to guarantee no tampering, best if obtained from trusted individuals with a historical chain of trusted ownership. Key dates: 2001, PATRIOT act enters effect in the USA, _officially_ legalizing state wiretapping within the de facto leader of the fourteen eyes, 1998, DMCA enters effect in USA, _officially_ mandating intellectual property regulation) and *Open Source Hardware* (cheapest are TI CPUs). Going the *old x86* route _requires_ *subjecting yourself to the hardware Spectre vulnerability discovered in 2018* - or loading non-free microcode into your CPU, which connects you to the botnet. This means, to retain security, *NO* non-free JavaScript (which you shouldn't be using anyway, though to write your comment and read this one you are currently using, so you won't be using this system for any comment walls on the official youtube comments this way ).

User agent spoofing is actually potentially a security flaw. It's much more likely that you WON'T find that user agent in the wild and thus it's easier to fingerprint to you. I think 64-bit would probably be a smarter spoof.
@TheRanguna3 жыл бұрын
That's a common misconception, if your fingerprint is based on your user agent, and your user agent is always changing, then your fingerprint is always changing. It doesn't give any more bits, because the bits are always changing.

@@TheRangunai think theres a misconception about what makes a user fingerprint A fingerprint is a way for me to point at a user and say "this is strange and is a pattern" If I have a log of records of different user agents in different sites. All completely different and all not correlating to common browsing habits. That's a pattern. That's a red flag that tells me something is going on between them If this pattern will continue to occur on relevant sites to the investigation, i could point out and say - this is the same person A fingerprint doesn't mean i can connect the behaviour to a person, it means I can single out a behaviour out of the crowd To hide tour fingerprint you need to blend into the crowd. Not stand out with random variables
@TheRanguna Жыл бұрын
@@CheesyCore how can you single out a person from "different agents in different websites"? If you have no other data about this behaviour, they could just be different people. There is no pattern, there's just a bunch of logs with a bunch of different user agents and nothing to correlate them with. If you still think there's a pattern, then try to build a high level algorithm yourself, which accepts two arguments: the new logs and the history of all past logs, and it should return the existing logs the new log is related to. If the ever-changing user agent is the only thing in that log, there's no way you can correlate anything. It's not like having different agents is similar to wearing different clown suits in a crowd. It's like wearing different and completely normal cloths in a crowd, you could never guess it's the same person unless you see something that is not cloth related. I'm not saying to switch to a user agent from the 90s that no one uses (analogy to the clown cloths) . The user agents should be common enough (analogy to the normal cloths).

@@antoninjacob2232 I've tried it, and I would use it if Brave doesn't fit better for my usecase for a fallback Chromium browser. Since I chose to prioritize privacy, I choose Brave for my fallback Chromium browser. That and when I first tried Vivaldi, their mobile sync function was broken. About Https only mode in firefox. You can't turn it off with a button in address bar so its a little inconvenient especially when you are say opening a poorly built government website or some old legacy site in general. It becomes convenient to have just an addon switch to turn on and off the https only mode to open sites out of necessity.

hey, one question about sending the do-not-track signal: isn't that basically just another piece of identifying information sites can use to track you? like, does it actually help?
@midas20923 жыл бұрын
I imagine that would reduce the amount of information with which to track you rather than eliminate it. Probably just helps by increasing ambiguity
@0hate93 жыл бұрын
@@midas2092 but wouldn't it *increase* the information with which to track you? the site gets whatever information it would otherwise have, plus the fact that you're sending the do-not-track signal. seems like just one more bit (literally) of information with which to track someone.

What do you mean Wikipedia isn’t a search engine? By using “w” as a keyword, you can type “w photon” in your URL bar and you’ll be sent to the Wikipedia page for the photon. It’s really damn handy. Set searches to other info sources you use often too, like the arch wiki, or stackexchange, or wherever.

Will it not be more obvious that you don't want to be tracked (so you're actually tracked more aggressively) by obscuring so many features (like the OS)? Grts
