Dragons' Den

4 жыл бұрын

Tom Bell and Craig Bailey are in the den seeking an investment of £80,000 in return for 15% equity in 'FoamAroma' - a reinvented coffee lid that aims to give coffee consumers the sensory experience that they’re deprived of. Their lids have enlarged holes that allow for easier drinking and more aroma to reach the nose but this is just the UK business - why won't Craig include the U.S business?
An international sensation, Dragon's Den features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Den from our Dragons, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

Technically it does smell like coffee but it is more of the sweet smell of milk steamed and syrups. I manage a coffee shop. I smell coffee in to go cups all day intentionally. Coffee, espresso, Americanos, yes. Steamed milk for a traditional cappuccino no. The condensed milk foam blocks the smell. So 🤷‍♂️

It is true that the attractive coffee aroma almost exclusively comes from the initial grinding process. You don't get that same smell from an americano/long-black, let alone a cappuccino or latte. Certainly you get the taste of coffee when you drink it, which the nose can then smell, but not the other way around. With a cappuccino, the thing you can smell first is the dusted chocolate and the sweetness of the milk, as that's what's on top. With Americano, where no milk is used, you might get an almost slightly 'burnt' coffee smell. You may be confused with the fact that you've bought and/or may be drinking it in a coffee shop, where the ambient smell is coffee beans being ground on the premises.

@d4rksol123 4 жыл бұрын
She isnt saying coffee with milk added in is odorless. She is saying the main coffee bean fragrance gets reduced / altered substantially. Most people who are used to the coffee smell and enjoy it, would not care for it as much when taking their coffee with milk. This is primarily what she is talking about. People who are used to always drinking coffee with milk obviously would still like the smell .. mainly because of the association with the taste. The smell of a sear on a fish for example is very pleasant and mouth watering for people who love to eat fish, but is pungent and putrid for say someone who grew up a vegetarian.. its about the association with taste.

Cause the billion dollar company is smarter than you and wouldn't risk the lawsuit even if they'd win eventually? The cost of even going through that trouble over a lid that costs them literal pennies to make over a "better smell experience" is just not worth? Plus without me being too thorough with the facts, seems like they were valued at 90mil around 2017-2018. I guess they did good for being delusional.

With the way the dragons have savaged other inventions in the past I'm surprised they didn't take more of a piss out of this one. Surely with two holes this just increases the risk of the liquid inside spilling out when you're out and about which this lid is specifically for - if you're drinking it in the cafe surely you'd just have a ceramic cup.
