This video is for washers that have the lid switch on the left back side. Often the bar will get bent and it will not press the lid switch. This is a quick video on how to adjust that bar.
This trick works on direct drive washer. Is that have a lid switch in the back. Whether it’s Whirlpool, Maytag, Estate, Kenmore Crosley.

Thank you so much for this video. My washer would randomly have issues off and on with not wanting to start. And we would slam the lid down to get it to start the initial cycle. Yesterday, it decided to fill up and would not drain or spin. I had a feeling that it was probably the lid switch, seeing as that seemed to always be what would catch. However, it was still giving power, so I couldn't quite figure out what I needed to replace. But, as you mentioned, most of the time it's just an adjustment needed. And in this case, it was literally just that the screws on the lid needed to be tightened and it fixed everything. It runs perfectly now. I saved myself the money from having to order parts or having to tell my landlord that I had an issue and risk my rent being hiked up. So greatly appreciated!

My washer was completely dead. I followed the steps in this video and adjusted the U-shaped bar that triggers the closed lid switch. This fixed my washer! It took about 30 minutes as I watched the video while doing it. Thank you for posting this video sir! I am very thankful I didn't have to buy a new one or call a repair man😁

Hi I just wanted to thank you for your video. You explained it slowly and nicely how to take the estate washer apart. My washer stopped in mid cycle, and like you said, it had to actually do with the lid switch. Upon close inspection of that area the green wire and connection were fried. I was able to get the 2 parts and fix it myself, but without your video I would have been lost. So thank you. Like other others have commented, by seeing your video we were all able to do it without calling a repairman. Money saved is always nice. Thanks again.

You have the exact (brand/model) washer that I have. It ran like a dream since about 2007, but recently went bad. It will fill up with water and then dead silence, nothing moved. I was about to spend about $700 for a stupid new washer that lacks the same effectiveness the old reliable ones had. But then discovered your video and with glee I pulled the old switch out (that did look bad) and today, ordered a $10 replacement online. I figure if it's not the cure, it was an easy gamble to take. THANKS!

Our machine completely stopped working because of the lid. I watched the video and you said the two screws on the side may have come loose. They were, I tightened them dropped the lid and immediately the machine started! We have been slamming the lid for a couple of years now, thank God I watched your video- I got the answer! :)🎉

I made a washer cleaning video for this type of Washer. Basically fill the washer up with hot water and let it agitate nearly a whole tub of oxy clean. Do not let it drain. Just open the lid and let it soak overnight. Bonus points add a bucket or two of water after it’s done fill-in to give it a little extra water, and those parts that don’t get touched by water normally.

My Whirlpool Estate washer does not fully fill with water at the rinse cycle only (knob is at high). A repair person told a feature of this model is the rinse cycle shoots water in at time of spinning so it's not suppose to fill the tub with water. Is that true
@WasherDryerMoney
@WasherDryerMoney 2 жыл бұрын
That is true for some machines. Different companies have different ways of washing clothes. Even the same brand from one year to another will be slightly different. I have seen several machines that spin the clothes and pour water through them for the rinse cycle.

My guess would be the capacitor or the motor is bad. I’m not sure the best way of testing that would be. I always had extra sitting around my shop and I would just throw a new one in it to see if it was the problem. I’m sure if you look for a video you will find the right way to test the motor and capacitor. Be sure to unplug, and discharge a capacitor before you touch it.

Thank you for replying. I though that may be the issus so I tinkered with another Kenmore 90 series washer was given to me. It agitated but no spin. After checking it out it was only a loose wire. Plugged it in & it went through the cycles. Put a load of cloths in & the only cycle that will now work is the spin. Any help on either one of these would be appreciated. @@JOEZEP54 do you have the water temperature set to hot? If so, it could be that the cold water valve has gone bad. Washers will fill with hot water in the beginning but they all have a cold water rinse cycle. This is a rare problem, but very hard to diagnose because of the washer working properly in the beginning, and then randomly stopping when it should be filling with cold water for the rinse cycle.

Hi does that washer agitator have a coupling/dog ears, or do you have to replace the entire agitator?

Most of the educators that ratchet have those dog ears. Usually they’re very easy to replace there’s a bunch a good walk-through videos on that.

@@WasherDryerMoney thanks for responding. I took agitator off a whirlpool estate, it didn't have dog ears or coupling. I'll keep searching for videos. Have a good day. Subscribed

That’s weird. I would say it’s probably a bad switch. I got another video on replacing the lid switch coming out tomorrow. Hope it helps.

How do you calibrate it?

This video is about a direct drive washer. It does not have a recalibration like the newer ones do.

I think my lid switch is fine it's just the wires are burnt up a little bit where can I get those.

I see that happen a lot. For some reason when the clutch goes bad on a washer it will draw too much power through those lid switches. At least I have noticed that’s a common problem that happens when the clutch is also start to go bad. You could definitely get a new lid switch very inexpensively and carefully Cut off the bad wire while it’s unplugged and redo the connection.

I definitely will do some videos on my rental properties. I basically buy broken dirty washers and dryers and refurbished them. I also do the same thing with broken dirty houses. LOL
