Nice work. That's always been a favorite of mine to play as well. Jeff Porcaro's ghost notes on the snare are just so good. You're right, David Hungate did play a P Bass with a pick on this one.
@kennet78377 жыл бұрын
I didn't know Toto band members played on this one. Learn something new every day! :D
@TJH31137 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I imagine it might be a touch easier to get that "shuffle" thing going with a pick, but I could be wrong. I didn't know that ghost notes could be played on a snare, I'll have to take a closer listen to it. I had a strong idea that it was a picked P-Bass but figured that someone would know better than myself.
@TJH31137 жыл бұрын
I hear (or don't hear) the ghost notes. I don't call them "ghost notes", I call them the things that screw up my timing.
@marccolon54587 жыл бұрын
TJH3113 Jeff's ghost notes on the snare happen just before + after he hits the backbeat...almost sounds like an echo, but it's all him. He was the king of shuffles. I play 99% of the time with my fingers, but this one just feels/sounds great with a pick. Especially on a Precision. Ah, just read that you heard (or didn't hear) them. Funny, I never consider them something to screw up my time, since the snare is still played where it should be. Just such a great feel, in my opinion.

I enjoy how you put some of your own swing and flair into the song. I'm a drummer, I play the same sort of way. I keep things close to the original, but add my own touches a lot of the time.
@TJH31134 ай бұрын
Thank you, but I really don't add anything intentionally. This is just as close as I can get to mimicking what I'm hearing on the recording.
@DM-tc3gz4 ай бұрын
@@TJH3113 You are being modest. You play the way you are feeling the groove. It may not be intentional, but it's definitely felt by you, which is observable on your recordings....of which I've watched many. You stick very close to the original, but you do put in your own little licks here and there. It's how I play most songs I'm trying to mimic. I'm a lifelong drummer, but bass is what I focus upon in just about every song, more-so than the drums. I enjoy your playing very much. You are solid. As a drummer, it'd be a joy to be in a band with you.

Thank you. I do have to clean them, but it doesn’t happen as often as it should. It’s really just a matter of dusting them off. We have a pretty good system.
