I was told to keep sharing my story, so I shall. This song saved my life. I was in a dark place and fate made this appear as a suggestion for me to watch. I hadn't sobbed that hard in a while. Dan made me feel less alone in this world and that I'm not alone in trying our best everyday as flawed human beings. I'm not religious, but it felt like God hugged my heart. I've been praying for the people listening to this song to feel God's Holy Spirit to touch people's hearts since I first came across it on my feed, having never heard of him. It was about 3 weeks after Easter. I know how much God's amazing grace has done for me throughout my 55 years on this planet, and I've faced death, chronic lifelong health issues, multiple losses, abuse, etc. But God!! He kept pursuing me throughout my lifetime. Even when I turned my back on Him time and time again. This version is the hands-down BEST RENDITION I've EVER heard. I'm a PK (Preacher's Kid) and have heard it sung, performed in many ways and sung it, and performed it probably thousands of times throughout my lifetime. Nothing even comes close!! I listen to it daily, and it STILL moves me to tears almost every single time I hear it. You're not alone! Please get access to a Bible and read the New Testament book of Romans and the book of John. Leave a response if you have questions. I'd love to help you on the journey that has taken me from suicide and severe depression to an entirely new outlook on life! And it's only by and through God's steadfast love, unfailing mercy, and amazing grace!! Psalms 73:26, "My flesh and my heart may fail BUT GOD is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. "! Dan is totally, completely, awesome. He soars to heights most can't. I agree with you about meaning of the song. Very well put. This was his father's favorite hymn. And gave Dan his first harmonica when he was 7. He did American Trilogy (Elvis was one of his dads favorite) about 6 days after losing his father, as a tribute to him... totally awesome. His cover of Gethsemane from "Jesus Christ Super Star" will blow your mind. I love All his music. He has such a wonderful voice, and presents so much emotion with voice, face and body.... he blows me away every single time I see and hear him. Thank you for the reaction. This is a Hymn that not only means so much to me as a devout Catholic but as a recovering alcoholic in AA. In my area, this hymn means a lot to us in AA (whether a person is religious or not), it is the message of redemption conveyed. I live down the block from a beautiful predominantly Irish/Catholic Church and we often hear bagpipes playing "Amazing Grace", I don't think that Dan meant to add a Celtic sprinkle by using the harmonica that was reportedly given to him by his beloved late dad when he was a boy. Nonetheless it was brilliant, as is the entire delivery. I am 62 years "young" and this WILL be played when The Lord calls me home. It brings my love of the Lord and my love of Metal together. I absolutely LOVE Dan's interpretation of this classic and beloved hymn!! He's got so much vocal and breath control! IMHO, he's the best tenor out there right now! The harmonica really gets me, too because my precious Granny played it beautifully. As I grew up we'd gather around the piano as a family, at holidays. I'd play the piano (and sing alto or 2nd soprano) and she'd play harmonica, while the rest of the family joined in the other harmonies. Priceless memories! YES!!! I've been saying exactly this same thing about Dan's performance of the song, since the third day after he posted it! Adding to what you said SO WELL, if you watched his eyes, at first they were open but not yet focused, and even somewhat panicky, as the journey began. Then when he start to upscale, when he was "lost," his eyes were still kind of panicking, and he wasn't quite sure where to go. THEN. suddenly, when he REALIZED where the journey was going, and that our amazing God is FOREVER (we've no less days, to sing God's praise...) he shut his eyes and did not open them again, except for one very tiny couple of seconds, thus signifying that he was no longer trusting in his PHYSICAL sight, but in his newly-gained SPIRITUAL sight, that brought him to the final, "AHA!" That last inward breath, by the way, carried him out 25 seconds, with no sign of weakening. Of course, when he can sing Black Wind, Fire, and Steel and hold that last scream for 30 whole seconds, this one seems more tame--and yet just as important, if not more so. 😀 WONDERFUL reaction. I'm subbing right now. Thank you VERY much! As for future ones...two of my favorites are "Son of Pain," and "For All."

Yes...and notice that at that time, he had had his eyes closed shut, and kept them that way until the end (only one tiny peek outward, for a second or two, after the "We've been here 10,000 years..." verse). This indicates spiritual sight, vs. physical, limited sight.

He took us all on a journey with him throughout the song, with so many surprises and a buildup to the crescendo at the end. It was like a religious journey, from humble convert admitting their sin, to triumphant believer confidently proclaiming his testimony to others at the end, as he repeated the same first verse in a very different way.

This song is powerful anyway and the way he delivers it reaches all the way to your soul whether you are a Christian or not. His rendition shows the journey from simple acceptance of faith to the joy at the Throne of Heaven. I keep thinking he shows that the Archangels of Heaven sing metal! Dan Vasc has stated he is a Christian; he put this out for Easter. I'm quite sure it is the best version of this I will ever hear. As you enjoyed his "Toss A Coin to the Witcher" I think you'll love his "Burn Butcher Burn" from the same series. It is short but has that Dan Vasc punch.

Regarding his range...I saw a reactor just yesterday, that I couldn't get away from fast enough! She was listening to Amazing Grace, and started saying things like, "Obviously this first part is in his comfort range...this is where he walks," etc., etc., etc." Then she spouted out that if she were to hear him speaking at some point, that it would be in THAT range that his voice would sound like. I laughed SO hard, because she had NO clue what Dan's speaking voice actually sounds like. I LOVE hearing him speak, but he doesn't speak in the baritone or bass range at ALL (unless he's imitating someone else). I kept wanting to yell at her to just SHUSH! I couldn't even make it to the next part of the song, because everything she said was just a bunch of malarkey--especially since she had never heard Dan sing anything else at all!!! I finally had to just shut her off and "go elsewhere," because she was being so ridiculous and so puffed up about it. Sheesh! Do your homework, lady!

It doesn't matter what the melody is, what the words say, or even if the song is trying to teach you something. But, when a performance of any type of music brings out your emotions, that is what music is about and if it can impact you that much, the song and the performer have done their job. This is by far, the purest example of this timeless classic. The only other performance that I feel needs to be remembered was done by Judy Collins many, many years ago. Both of those performances rate #1 in my book and I'm sure, others too. This was a very nice review.

This is the first time i have heard your post. I ilove how you felt about the song and that is the best discription I have heard. I was so impressed with what you said, that I LIKED and SUBSCRIBED.
