Belgium has many wonderful cities that are not well known to the typical traveler, and yet they are definitely worth visiting, especially a place like Liège. Here we present the complete tour that tells you all about this magnificent place.
00:00 intro
00:47 map
00:58 Place du Marché
02:36 Cite pedestrian zone
05:20 Pl. de la République Française
06:05 Le Carre

09:56 Passage Lemonnier
11:08 Fontaine de la Vierge
12:22 Cathedral
14:31 Rue Saint Paul
15:54 train station - tram
17:08 Rue Hors-Château
18:55 big stairs - Montagne de Bueren
20:48 Impasse
23:36 Saint-Barthélemy
24:40 Musée Le Grand Curtius
25:48 Tourist Information Office
27:12 narrowest street
28:06 Outremeuse
31:24 Museum of Walloon Life
32:51 party at the palace
37:38 La Batte open market
We shall be walking along many of its wonderful pedestrian lanes and visiting a few museums we will go down to the waterfront street market, which is really quite a lot of fun. They say it's the longest street market in all of Belgium. Try their waffles hot from the griddle. And we'll bring you into the great Palace of Justice, where they're having a party, traditional music, dance, food and drinks.
Belgium's divided in two socio-linguistic group: Flanders speaks Dutch. Wallonia speaks French. Liège is one of the most prominent cities of Wallonia.
A good place to begin our walking tour is at the Market square in the center of the city. Throughout history, it's been the place people gathered to do business. Now it's an active plaza filled with outdoor restaurants.
Market Square is one of the oldest in the city with origins dating to the eighth century. By the 18th century 200 merchants crowded into this one square. It also had political and social importance as the main gathering place of the city.

Dennis, we adore you and your videos. Rick Steves has a lot to learn from you! We used to watch him to prep for our trips & learn about other places but we are so glad we found you. Your honest style, thorough information & production is fantastic. We love your music choices & storytelling. Thank you for being you and we hope you decide to write some more travel guides!!

Have the pleasure of living in Liège for a year back in the day. This is the very best video I've ever seen of Liège -- which, in my opinion, really IS the cultural capital of Wallonia (the southern, French speaking half of Belgium)

I personally like Liège. I think it has a lot of potential. Unfortunately they constructed too many ugly 60's buildings near the riverside. My wish is to see more interesting architecture or even some traditional reconstructions of some of its lost buildings. I like the historic city center with it's splendid churches and other historic structures and the unique shops that are often owned by young entrepreneurs with very innovative shop concepts. The only downside especially in summer is the odour of pee and drug addicts that are roaming some of its streets. I think that the city deserves better gouvernance. I am curious how the city will develop after the tram is fully operational.

Very judicious comment. I have been living in Liege approximately 6 years in the 2000's. It's a beautiful historical city indeed but it's very far from being a model in some of its aspects.

Liege is every bit as beautiful as Fanders towns, and Wallonia does have many other fine places to visit. Thanks for your comment.
