Having met Martijn when helping him replace the beams on his cabin (Episode #30), I can confidently say I learned a lot from him. Even tough it was only for a day, I had a chance to see someone deeply involved in his project and passionate about his way of life. I'm grateful for his generosity and I'm honoured to have a piece of me in that cabin. Great work and good luck Nathaniel!

This was such a great interview Nathaniel, and bravo for showing us a more personal side of Martijn! I have been following his channel since the beginning of his current project and this is the most I have ever seen him talk and share about his views on things ... and so many wonderful shots of him too! Yep, his channel is mostly focused on his projects which I love, but it was nice to see him laughing and sharing. I also really love how you weaved all the pieces together, great story telling!

THIS! 15:44 "I enjoy the work and if I don't enjoy the work I'll make sure I have a nice lunch, I watch a good movie in the evening. You make your day nice. And if your work is a bit rough then you just slice it up so it's not too much in one go." YES! 💖 I learned from a friend to break up house cleaning like this, and it makes such a difference! 😃 It's also nice to hear #TemptationBundling described in such a civilized way. 😄 Intentionally combining hard things with fun/rewarding things has made a HUGE difference for me with my ADHD, and it simply makes life more enjoyable overall. Win-win!

Well he can fuckin afford to. You can't live like that on a shoestring budget. And despite the "it's more important to be liked than to have money" maybe you dont want to have to make nice to everyone to get housed and fed etc.

@@janebaker966 @soundscape26 no doubt nathaniel is incredibly lucky and privileged but yall just sound salty. there is the original commenter expressing inspiration, having dreams and the will to pursue them - a beautiful thing. And you guys just can't stand that. Have to tear both him and nathaniel down because they are choosing to use whatever they have to build the life they want. The world is unfair- no doubt, but if you're going to be so negative just keep it to yourself, try watching creators you actually identify with, or try expressing your frustration where it actually counts.

Martin is such a wise and amazing human being. I admire his courage and generosity in sharing his experience and learnings with his audience. I love his philosophy of starting a project knowing that it will and should end at some point. And then just move on to the next and the next. Love him.

"Every good thing has to end, at the right time". Something we all know and yet so hard to remember while we're living an experience. I think it takes so much courage to end things "at the right time" because it's exactly when you're living at your best that you should change, before it's too late and you start ruining your experience. So inspiring, thank you guys
@lynettejwhite
@lynettejwhite Күн бұрын
Yes there is truth in that; but also we tend to race forward in life chasing the next thing. So I think that it is also important to sit and celebrate your success in the good times in life. It's a moment to rest from the journey. And wait for the feeling of restlessness to guide you to the next adventure, only after both things have happened is it the right time to end a good thing and start the next. Of course life often has other ideas, and personally things rarely get to 'good' before challenges are thrown in my path and I have to scramble to survive.

I got so excited when I saw Martijn's house at the end of your last video. I've been following him for years ever since I watched his "Two Years on a Bike" series where he biked from Vancouver to Patagonia. It was so inspiring and I loved the way he filmed his videos. So excited to see you two in the same video! ❤

Martijn is as cool as they come, when he was just beginning his YT journey we wrote back and forth about living in the mountains (I live in as remote part of the PNW). It is easy to chat with him being that we have both traveled for extended periods of time and now are both trying to build a new life in places where some think it is hard to build. Find what motivates you and do your best to see it through.

Thanks for doing such a great interview video with my favourite KZbinr. I've watched Martijn's videos since he first bought the mountain property and love his weekly videos so much. They are such beautifully filmed, edited and thoughtful videos and my fave Sunday activity, watching what he's been up to during the week. The thought of him ending the project has been on my mind, wondering what he'll do with himself. What an interesting and thoughtful guy he is. Thanks for sharing your trip to visit the man in the mountains.

I think there is a difference between being afraid, deeply afraid because you don't have the resources for life; and being excited for a new challenge in life where you feel that you have the strength and resources to draw on (a degree of privilege). The former is debilitating and the later is empowering.

Lovely to see Martijn from an outside perspective! Like so many in the comments below, he's easily my favorite KZbinr and I've followed him from the beginning. He spoke more openly with you than he normally does on his channel, where he lets his beautiful cinematography and the work at hand speak for themselves, which is one of the reasons his channel is so popular. There's a quietness, an almost zen quality to his episodes. Thanks for the inside view!

I’ve been watching your show for awhile. Now your dads and moms they are great❤️👍. You have a way of connecting with people. You are a good listener and are sincerely interested in their story, journey and life. Many people are all about talking about their self and not truly listening to others. People open up to you I believe because of that fact. Keep doing what you’re doing. Very interesting and inspirational. Side note I started watching Martijin Doolard awhile back I was very intrigued.

Nathaniel, something very special happens to me around your content and your life choices. Im argentinian and i found your channel when i was daydreaming about moving to paris. A year later, you did. I felt so happy for you, i almost felt like i could experience through your content and be just as pleased, since i wasnt gonna be able to afford it anytime soon. The pandemic took a toll on my mental health for sure, and your videos were a safe space, a breath of fresh air. I scaped the city as soon as i could after the pandemic, being extremely lucky to find love and a home in the heart of cordobas las sierras. I followed your channel and i gotta admit, i was hoping you'd fell in love with the countryside lifestyle... i had the strange calming sense that you'd get out there eventually. I feel lucky to have found your content, your worldview amazes me every time.

I followed Martijn's channel as soon as Kirsten Dirksen show cased his newly bought cabins. Ever since I am hooked. My sunday's are defined by watching a new episode of his life and works. Having said that: I really appreciate you interviewing him... You brought him out in the spotlight. He is kind of stoic, a man with not many words, that is ; in his video's. But in your portrayel you brougth him skin-close. Up and close. I got excited just seeing the thumbnail... hahah. What a caracter. I must admit i have had some prejudice against you (might as wel just confess)... but you really portrayed him well. Very well!!! I have a preference for practical and intelectual at the same time.. not too much woo woo and clumsiness. But I forget not everybody has the inclination or the upbringing to develop such skills. I am happy for you, you have changed your path and seeking to develop these skills to expand your vision on life. I really enjoyed this portrait and the context that ignited this effort. THank you
