Harmony church graduate here, yes there is something other than sand hill. I capitalize on all the training available while I was still in a line unit. I got to go to NBC school (now called CBRN), and other special duty assignments. I worked in an emergency operation center and also having been in the 3d United States infantry Regiment(TOG) I got exposed to all kinds of opportunities. I capitalized on all of that experience and training so that when I got out I was able to transition to the department of the army civilian position and have been to so much more army training that it has made a great career with all kinds of other opportunities. The most important thing I can say whether or not you been able to go to any additional training is to keep your military bearing, it is the one major thing that employers are looking for when hiring a veteran. We’ve all had good experiences and bad experiences but when you talk openly to POG’s about our experiences it makes us look bad. Keep the crap talk about field time and toxic leadership to your other bravo friends and you’ll be G2G.

As a former Airborne Infantryman, I made it to the corporate world and worked for top investment banking institutions in the US. Naturally the tactical Infantry skills don't translate, but what I can tell all enlisted Infantryman is, it's the persona and character of being an Infantryman is what made me successful. Things we took for granted because it was our job and what was expected of us. Things like: - always volunteering to take on assignments, both easy and challenging - managing people effectively and efficiency through clear, direct instructions - being resourceful and creative with solving problems; - being prepared and ready for meetings and other engagements; - know your job and the tools and systems to become a subject matter expert - not being scared and being professional to speak in front of large audiences and senior leaders - most importantly, our innate strength as Infantryman - which is being able to operate with a clear thought under hard and uncertain conditions and pushing through challenges to complete the mission. I can't stress enough how much those qualities I mentioned above sets you apart from the rest of the civilian world. Interestingly enough, the corporate world is kinda similar to our life in an infantry battalion in a sense of always being on the move and operating on the go. The corporate world and the work that goes along with it is completely manageable because I always reflect on my time in the Infantry know that Excel spreadsheets and compiling data is not as hard as 12 mile ruck march, deployment, or a JRTC rotation. Of course, I used my GI Bill to get to where I'm at, but don't discard your experience and who you are as an Infantryman thinking that it won't translate to anything more than a cop or janitor. Dream big, and pursue everything with the "follow me" mentality. Oh, and use veterati.com to network 12 months to getting out. Hope this helps my fellow grunts out.

GI bill paid me monthly while attending the police academy. Illinois Veterans Grant paid 100% for my MA degree. I was 11B2X, which is airborne.

Not everyone wants to do the same job they did in the military when they get out. I already had a degree before joining the infantry. Even if you don’t have a degree or anything prior to joining, when you get out you can easily go to school and use your benefits like my man on the video did. Don’t let anyone try to tell you that there’s nothing for you after the infantry ! Life is what you make it !! 💯

Dude, so true. I just saw your post after my comment on this video as well. Life after the infantry is truly what you make of it. I hope these grunts who get out don’t discard that inner being of aggressively completing the mission when they get out. Oddly enough, not a lot of civilians possess that. I speak from the corporate world, and received recognition from my bosses and peers for always completing tasks and delivering results regardless of any blockers. As you said, life after the infantry is truly what you make of it. I hope fellow grunts don’t waste their talent

Everyone getting out of the military in your mid to late 20’s. Don’t trip if you work odd jobs. Even us civilians take odd jobs because we have no idea what to do. It takes time before you find something you do like.

Good video, even though I’m commenting at 5min mark. Everyone’s experience is relevant. I’ve been in 20yrs. Signed an indefinite contract to age 60 a few yrs ago. Their are greater experiences to talk about. For example: as an E4 Specialist 11B. We’re you selected to be an RTO(Radio Transmission Operator)? Did you advise a 1LT on what to do as higher HQ was requesting a report? This means that you were a trusted advisor to a leader in charge of 40-50 employees. That’s a billet point on any resume’. There are many things you did but you need to know how to describe them. Example: 11B Grenadier, E3 Private First Class. What was your job? Described in the real world? The Grenadier is Special Missions and Crisis Management for a 10 man squad/team. Your responsibilities involved dealing with specialty assignments beyond the standard work load. Also, when work load (enemy) was overbearing you were called in to solve the issue- blast radius, defilade etc. same goes for gunners etc. you have to know how to sell your experience in the real world. Excellent point on selling your resume, also HR are taught to read your millitary service, we have to gear our resume to the job description, the millitary cross trains you on so many things, ive had Dfac cook buddies get out and become Mechanics for large great companies. Just geared his resume towards the job, got trained on the job and kept it. Many Govt jobs have combat arms working for them. As far as Law Enforcement.

Here's the thing you need to understand about joining the Infantry: If there isn't a war (I was in during Iraq) you're going to be sitting around not doing much. My time in country was very boring 90% of the time. If you think you are going to be shooting and blowing stuff up all the time, you're going to be highly disappointed.

Ben Allen...Infantry can transition into the civilian lifestyle; yet, civilian lifestyle is very boring. My message to those who are approaching ETS, look at switching MOS. With hindsight, I should have started Infantry, then Medic,then Military specialties. Now...what I am wondering, is why other "Services" learn from the U.S. Army, but WE can't learn from them? ...like SEAL training.

I am an infantrymen. So your prior service Navy. Well you are going to be told well you finally did something right going from a semen to a grunt and no POG shit. To get promoted have good PT, try to become more of a leader. But just be on time do your job right and PT is everything. Ever thought about going 75 Ranger battalion or Special forces? That how you get faster promotions. Or if you get recommended for a specialty school like Ranger school. But really as infantry PT is your bred and butter.

Know what you want. If your 1st pick mos isn't there have a 2nd and 3rd pick. I wanted Infantry. It wasn't there. My 2nd pick Combat Engineer wasn't there either. So I went with my 3rd 18x. At MEPs they show you a list of available mos that they don't go over with you (at least for me).

Most Infantry have higher ASVAB scores then other MOSs. Also getting the lowest ASVAB score usually wont have 11B even available as a job mostly 88M and cook will be there.

@Miguel Peña ASVAB score 31 is the lowest accepted into the army in the last 15 years. Scores 50 and higher are considered Alpha's. 32 to to 49 are considered Bravo's for recruiting purposes.

My son is 27, made it 3 years. Getting out soon. His whole platoon is beat up mentally and physically. Don't join they are treated poorly. Especially the pressure to take a jab that is not approved! Many were harmed and it's being covered up.
