Graduated high school in 2003 - so in just a few weeks, it'll be my 20 year anniversary. With that said, cell phones were rare in the early 2000s, and by the time I was a high school senior maybe only a handful of kids in my class had them. And the few kids that did actually have phones usually always had Nokia "brick" phones with the monochrome green screen and the Snake game. Back in those days you had limited minutes, or sometimes only had service on weekends. I didn't get my first phone until 2005, which was a tiny flip phone that didn't even have internet access nor a camera. My family still had a landline up into the 2010s.

I'm 24 and my parents didn't get rid of our homes land line til 2020 lol I kinda miss it. My parents were more consistent at picking up the landline than they are with their cell phones, especially because once you started to leave a voicemail it'd play over the speakers and the chance of someone at my house picking up when they heard my voice like doubled

oh, big time. I had this bad feeling, around 2019, with the phones, the social media, Greta Thunberg, this huge, random-ass push for vaccinations, the lack of real meaning making suffering with close friends, this on-flight movie look more fun than the holiday I just had, Thailands de-regulations making the place feel simply more chill compared to trips closer to "home"... and the next year proved my gut 1000% right.

Other than that, I DO carry mine around constantly, but not because I feel a need to check it or anything like that. I could give a shit if someone messages me and I actually LOATH talking on the phone...I just carry it around because it's so damn useful! To this day I’m uncomfortable when everyone around me is on their phone, especially at a place like a concert. I’m only 20 but I find it insane that people refuse to speak to each other or sit with their own thoughts for more than a minute now
@bruhdon4748
@bruhdon4748 Жыл бұрын
People can’t be left alone with their thoughts and feelings anymore, it’s too scary for them. Most people genuinely haven’t been left alone with their thoughts since birth, think about how many people cook while listening to a podcast or music, then watch a movie while eating, then when they go to bed have a podcast on or whatever, people are scared of their own thoughts nowadays because they’ve never been alone with them.

same. They just make themselves targets honestly. it used to be common knowledge to pay attention to your surroundings out in the world and especially concert's. But nowadays people can't even go to a grocery store without it. I'll give ya one of the biggest problems when in a public setting on the phone besides the obvious. When out in public with a bunch of people, everyone thinks someone else is paying attention, therefore after a couple minutes zero of them are paying attention. When nobody is paying attention, evil people can do evil things and often take advantage of the opportunity. Nothing says I'm a target quiet like looking at a screen for hours at a time.

Unfortunately, I've become very dependent upon my cell phone. There's no way around it, though. I have health issues, as do many members of my family, and it's too important to my life. Literally a life-saving piece of technology. That said, I have other devices I can use if anything were to happen to the phone, such as my laptop and tablet. And I've recently picked up a portable backup charger/battery for my phone. I'm old enough I lived most of my life before there were cell phones, so I can do without the convenience features, even Google Maps!

Yeah I was in hs when the iPhone came out, flip phones started to become more common the last year or 2 I was in hs but no kids had an iPhone at that time. I think I was 20 or 21 when I got the iPhone 3G. i am glad I grew up without one, but it doesn’t change the fact I am way too attached to my phone nowadays. I guess I have that perspective of living without a smart phone and how it really was a much more healthy lifestyle.

@@bruhdon4748 I had this dream not too long ago. I was in the past, four years before I was born, and the world was more colourful driving around, & this parking lot, it was brighter, had more trees, and was in a different part of the city, but I've seen it before. We pulled over there, about a half hour into my dream or so, I realised "Something", and I just started running and jumping up and down like crazy, full of energy you can feel like a small child would used to have. It's hard to describe the feeling, it was like riding a big rollercoaster for the first time in your life, except that it's you throwing your own body around instead of some train that only follows a set path, and it makes for this ... indescribable Freedom in every fiber of your body. True Freedom, you have to feel it for yourself. It can't really be described. Best I've ever felt, even though I knew in the back of my head I was dreaming... I can at least lay claim to knowing what absolute freedom feels like.
