I love your BVI videos, but I’m not a big comment writer. But this particular video moved me enough to want to write something. My wife and I went down a similar path, just slightly earlier in my life. We dialed down our alcohol consumption and amped up or exercise several years ago. Stick with it Alan…the best is yet to come! Thank you for posting this video, I hope it helps others make a change before they have to go through your experience or worse.

Thank you for posting this. I am 74 and since my gym shut down during Covid I've been kicking myself for being lazy and worrying I might not be able to enjoy a good bit of my retirement. Lethargy is a bitch . I'm gonna buy that book. I don't want to waste another day of retirement not being able to do the things I love with the people I love. PS - Joan and I have chartered all over the Carribean. Maybe 25 times. Plus we did Scotland in 2016 and havent chartered since. Running into your channel got me excited about going back to the Bahamas or BVIs and I am trying to entice my friends to come for the fun. Please keep it going. God bless.

Amazing, and thanks for sharing. I organized a trip, over a year ago, using YOUR 7-day itinerary video (before we both knew the knew the correct pronunciation for Saba rock, ha!) to pitch the trip to the other couples, because it was the best video out there. (Your videos are wonderfully inspiring- keep it up!) Anyway, during the virtual crew meeting, we all had drinks in hand - alcohol being synonyms with boating and fun in the BVI. Well, two things have happened since that point. The trip fell through for other reasons, and my wife and I quit drinking, for many of the same reasons as you. All of what you said has resonated greatly with me, particularly because of all the added inspiration you've already given me to help realize a life-long dream of chartering in the BVI. But, the first thing I worried about when I made that decision to lay down the drink: what the heck am I going to do when I'm in the BVI on that 46 foot cat with all my drinking friends?? I figured I might step back in, moderately. Well, here I am on vacation in the keys, still deciding to stick to NA beer (and there are a lot of great options!) and feel good about it. I can't thank you enough for your voice on this and so many other things. I hope I get the chance to meet you and thank you in person some day! Thank You.

Great video and a very important message. I'm in the same boat (not literally) at age 67 being retired now. My wife and I do cruise ships and I have found that all the great eating and drinking for a week really added up in pounds. I decided to diet and exercise every day when I'm not cruising so that when I do, I can splurge and not feel guilty. I've lost over 50 pounds now and when I do cruise only gain about 7-10 pounds but can quickly get it off after coming back home. I learned as you now know, that you have to workout in order enjoy the lifestyle you want to live. Thanks for the message. Cheers!

I read an article from a Chinese physician that said the way you live your life from 60 to 70 will dictate how long and healthy you will ultimately live. When your young you can eat and drink excessively because your body can handle it. Once you turn 60 (for some could be earlier or later) you need to eat healthy AND exercise daily. Makes sense to me (now 63). Seems logical and I have now started a new routine. I often would come from work and eat 1/2 a bag or more of Wise potato chips with 2 or 3 beers, no more. Cut back on the junk food and beers (sometimes a double shot of rum with diet coke). Weekends will cheat a little but nothing excessive. And to add one more thing equally important is to not only to take care of yourself physically but spiritually. The latter has helped me in more than words can say. I am a practicing Catholic and I surely need practice but I am heading in the right direction or path. Love your videos and humbleness.

OMG Allen, you are talking to me! Can't tell you how much I needed to hear this today. I am having the same type of health issues as you. I am the same age as you and I own 45' sailboat that is my dream retirement home. We both are from Tx. and I look like you physically. I ordered the book before the video ended! It will be here tomorrow. I saw the title to this video when it came out and thought "here's another Hollywood celeb getting holier than thou." I didn't open it. Until today. I have been working on my pool pump and landscaping and every ten minutes or less, I had to sit and rest. I am heaver than I have ever been and to tell you the truth, I am worried I will die if something does not change. I have had all kinds of test run and each time I hear "everything is normal" when I know it's not. I refuse to write my situation off to "you're getting older and your metabolism is slowing down" Bull! I have zero energy, my knees and back hurt ( could relate to you climbing up the stairs on your boat) and the "pregnant" pictures. Hell, I don't even want to sleep with me, not sure how my wife puts up with it!! Question, since this is KZbin, did I hear you correctly, you started in late January of this year and the video was shot in mid April, correct? Did you use a trainer? And yes, I need a drink and a cigarette when I come back from my urologist also and I don't smoke!! HaHa. So because of your videos, we have planned our first BVI charter for May of '23 with two other couples and because of this video, I hope to be "Younger Next Year". Thanks again for the slap in the face and I hope I can achieve what you have. Thanks for this video Allen. Paul & Linda s/v The Friendly Confines

It could be said that "transparency is the greatest teacher." Well, you taught an invaluable lesson here. Think of the many whose lives you just spoke into. The blessing in life is being a blessing to others. Take a moment and imagine if more were doing what you just did! Turn their life inside out for a couple of minutes, to pull back the layers of honest confession - and become a proactive ambassador for lifestyle changes! Keep blessing the masses, my friend. It's always "obedience is greater than sacrifice." You were obedient to a mighty GOD that called you out of the darkness that most of us fight with daily. This testimony will save lives, I guarantee it! Romans 5:3-5 comes to mind. Thank you. I'm in the middle of the struggle against my own will. But I WILL WIN IN THE END!
