My biggest regret is that when I was in my early 20s, older colleagues and even some "friends" used to put me down a lot. The crazy thing is that I actually believed them. I let it get to me and influence my decisions, such as whether or not I would apply to a job or seize an opportunity. I let it affect my behaviour and how I felt about myself. Once I got older and wiser, I cut away those toxic people. I saw what was really out there and realized that I had been very naive. If I had had more confidence early on, I think my 20s wouldn't have felt so miserable.

Rumination! I decided finally one year that I wanted to move past these haunting, embarrassing memories which, honestly, were holding me back in many ways in my life. I did the Centre for Clinical Interventions (CCI) CBT workbooks for building self compassion, and I fouced entirely on rumination. A few weeks of working through the exercises and suddenly I rarely have a rumination at all, and if I do, it's very short lived and far less distressing than before. I would have never thought it would be such quick change. I wish I did it sooner. I hope that helps someone out there.

One of my biggest regrets is not learning to cook earlier. I would eat takeaways and fast food every day and when I stopped and started to make those meals at home I lost 30 pounds. I also save hundreds each month which I use to pay for more travel and investing.

My biggest regret that comes to mind immediately is not having pursued a PhD, although I always wanted to. However, actually, I do not regret any of my life decisions because had I not made them, I would not have experienced all the wonderful things that developed out of those. Regretting thus makes no sense to me (except if a decision I made resulted in hurting someone else. ) Sophie, you may have nothing material to show from your shopping sprees at university, but the joy the cheap dress and the experience of joining your friends on those shopping sprees back then should not be underestimated. Life is about the joy we experience, not about what we have to show. Don't get me wrong - I love luxury (I just bought myself my first Dior bag), but if in a year I don't like it and don't get my investment back, it still gave me pleasure. The pleasure I experience today, noone can take away from me tomorrow.

In some ways, I regret being with my ex, but I do believe if things had panned out differently, I wouldn't have been in the right place, right time, right headspace to have met my husband. So, in other ways, I'm happy we were together if that was what needed to happen for me to be where I am today. My husband feels similarly about his ex - we both feel that we ended up with something so much better, and in fact if I ever met my ex, I'd actually thank him for getting me to the right place at the right time (the sh*t he put me through is another matter!). I agree about experiences being important in life, as you say it's so not about what we have to show. And yes, I do love luxury too (I prefer to call it quality), I just bought a Loewe Puzzle - I love that it's understated, it being below the radar is what gives me pleasure.

Such a great topic. Thank you for sharing. My biggest regret is not traveling more before I had kids. I did travel but I wish I would've done more, maybe even a semester abroad while in college, though I, too, paid 100% of my college tuition. The whole thing about remembering embarrassing things while trying to fall asleep - yep! I can relate. Sometimes I'm like really...I can remember something embarrassing that happened 10 years ago, but I can't seem to ever remember to bring my reusable shopping bags to the grocery store.

I am back in Uni because teaching just was not it anymore and I think a degree is always a valuable asset to have. You can certainly be successful without a college degree however in many industries and for many job roles, a degree is now becoming increasingly popular or essential, so you could potentially find yourself unable to progress in your career without further qualifications. Having said that, the situation here in Malta sounds different because we don’t pay for Uni (we only have 1 university here) and we get a monthly stiped and money for books (which many spend in boutiques). But an education will always give you more leverage if it is financially doable.

I am so glad you are doing well. This is such an important topic. Young people should be aware of the kinds of school they are applying to and what kind of jobs they will be looking for. It does not make sense to get hundreds of thousands to get a job that will pay 35k. What I mostly regretted when I was younger and working, is that, when you are offered a position to climb the ladder take it. It does not matter if they pay increase is smaller than you expected, it's a chance to grow. Also, when lateral opportunities comes up, take that too. Move around in your company to gain experiences in different departments. Also, if you are looking for a higher position, don't be afraid to leave the company you work for and go else where to gain more experiences then, when you are ready reapply to the old company when the position comes up.

I wish I had been more financially responsible at Uni and saved more from my job, made lunches instead of buying them etc. But the degree itself is the most valuable thing I own. FYI a couple of our lecturers used to put tables for reference to texts, showing each edition and the correct page reference. They openly told us the text book makers deliberately rearranged sections every few years to increase profits, and they weren’t having a bar of it!

Great topic Sophie! For me: Taking some parental advice as a young adult. If I had gone with MY gut, life could've been more of an advantage to them in their elder years, and more to me in the here and now. I'm thankful for my accomplishments but, looking back, I know some things would have taken us all further. Just because your parents are older and wiser, they don't have the same experiences in some aspects of your own life. You know how there's that choice between what's in your heart and mind. I loved my parents when they were still in this life but, sometimes following your heart isn't the brightest idea!

I got some interesting ones too. My first one is making a last minute decision to go away from studying econ to studying comp sci. I was 19 at the time, made that decision purely with the expectation of a monetary windfall. Did not pan out, I effectively wasted 3 years of my life. Went to econ after that and got my BA. Next mistake was going into my masters at 25 right after my BA with 0 work experience. Constantly noticed how nobody wanted to give me a shot after that as they'd likely think my salary requirement would be far higher for somebody with 0 work experience. This one doesn't really have a time, but it's being obese most of my life. Think it started at around 12 and stopped at say 27 (I'll turn 29 in April). COVID was the thing that made me get a grip since a big problem with not drinking/going out/socializing is the lack of human contact, and with studies switching online, I effectively had a breakdown. Put hundreds if not thousands of hours into understanding training and nutrition, so much so that I'm at the point where my knowledge on the topic is better than most personal trainers. Overdoing it made me take it more seriously. Outside of that, there's not much else that I feel like I could've changed at that moment, e.g. stock market related choices.

I was never taught good money habits. And I was never allowed to get things as a kid. So when I started working at 14, I started spending. I’m now 30 and it sickens me how much money I have spent and have no clue what on or where it went. I’m finally trying to learn good money habits and I have a bit of bitterness towards my parents for never teaching me. I also am addicted to new stuff and I try so hard to stop and its soooo difficult. But I regret so much all the money I wasted.

I regret going to uni without having any knowledge of the city I was going to, without having gone on a bus by myself ever before, without knowing anyone there or having gone to the city by myself before even for just a day trip... I regret going to uni and thinking I could rely on my family and talk to my mother about difficulties when in reality, she did not care and was just disappointed in me for somehow not magically knowing things I was never shown/taught etc. I regret having taken on too many courses when my body was giving out. I regret being so harsh on myself for the years after. I regret being dependent on family that never cared. I wish I could have gone back but that didn't happen - my mother did not allow me to go back and that was it for me. Although if it was not for the trauma I suffered at uni, I would not have realised how my support system really was 0. It took me a decade after to accept that. It's hard to accept because it's family. Life went on and difficulties did not stop coming.. I want to look back on the past without regrets. I hope I get to that point one day. I did my best. I know that. Years after when I would pick up a book and try to just read, I had major punch-in-the-gut reactions - (vomiting, diarrhea). Tmi, sorry. Working on it but it has been hard and strangely difficult to contain the body's reactions.

The only real regret I have/had was not taking a year in industry in my field all because I didn’t want to fall one year behind my peers. Now I realise everyone is on their own timeline and you should never compare yourself to others. Besides one year doesn’t really make a difference and if anything it would’ve eased my way into finding a job in the pharmaceutical industry. HOWEVER, because I found the job hunting process very difficult I decided to pivot my career and now I work in tech as an engineer and on a really good trajectory in terms of pay - and that’s as a result of my ‘mistakes’ when I was at uni.

Hi Sophie! Great video, as usual :) University is such a sensitive topic to me. Do I entirely regret it? No, I gained some knowledge and skills, but none of it profession related. I followed my parents advice or rather a strong opinion that I need to go to specific uni and have a “serious” profession. But it all brought me only stress, I didn’t enjoy the subjects and I constantly felt enormous pressure to get scholarship. So by the time I graduated I had an allergy for this whole industry and ever since haven’t worked a day according to my degree. I’m doing totally fine now financially, but I never managed to built a career, I had jobs in several different industries, always entry level, then I just re focused to build smth on my own, but again, no career :) this bothers me quiet often, but I prefer to concentrate on positive and believe in my decisions and actions now!

Btw Sophie was likely able to get car finance with no deposit cuz some dealerships complete “soft” credit checks rather than “hard” credit checks. Be aware of which it is when you’re going to finance a car, cuz if you’re rejected for a hard check it’ll be another 3 - 6 months before you can try again, as it’ll harm your credit score!

I don't understand the craze about Goyard bags. If you go to wet markets, the bags used to buy wet goods like fish, crabs, pork, chicken, etc. look similar to the design of the goyard bags. That's why it looks so tacky not to mention the fact that it is flimsy IRL. And my gosh, the price for a bayong-looking bag, so ridiculous! That will never be in my wishlisht.

11:19 This part really taught me a lesson cause I realized how lucky I am to be able to pay my college classes while having a decent paycheck (like 400 bucks a week) and my college tuition not being too expensive since I also have military support. The fashion part also taught me something cause I do realize I'm being hoarder and sometimes I compulsive buy just cause of certain trends that may not really be who I am or true to my personal style (Y2K, coquette style, techwear, etc.) I feel like looking at too much fashion styles of pinterest and twitter may ruin my perception of what my style really is lol.

i regret not learning about merit scholarships and applying to ivy league schools or top schools in the United States...i didn't know that there was so much financial aid out there from private schools and i should have just applied to these schools and put myself out there...i'm glad that i graduated from my college debt free but i'm disappointed in the academics of the university that i went to...but it's ok, because i can always go back to school for my master's and my PhD...i definitely don't regret anything because i really did have some great experiences in my community college and met some great people that i call my friends today

Mine was a Rolex watch. I bought that at the beginning of my career. I couldn't afford it, but I financed it. I used the watch for many, many years, but the face is too small now, and I don't use it at all. I like to sell and buy a larger one.

I said mean things to people and they didn’t deserve it. I still kick myself. I feel like I hurt myself more than I hurt them. I had to mature and grow to really think about the consequences of not only my actions but my words.

Goyard is such an understated, beautiful brand and Saigon is one of my favorite bags!! I love it just as much if not even more than the Chanel Classic Flap. I am so sad it didn’t work out for you:/ The bag is so light, versatile, easy to use, it’s soft on purpose but Goyard makes a structured, heavier version. I have caught in the rain many times with it (and in my other Goyard pieces), the canvas prints never come off. I watched your other videos that you voiced dissatisfaction with Saigon, I think you should take it back to the store and ask what your canvas prints come off, it doesn’t on my Saigon or other Goyard items. I prefer Goyard’s quality over LV, Chanel, etc. The price of Saigon keeps going up and you can sell it with no problem I’m sure. I hope you will give the brand another try in the future, best of luck Sophie! ❤

I want to add that Saigon is indeed hard to get, it took me many trips to Paris and Milan’s Goyard stores over 1.5 years to find the exact color I wanted. I wish I got into the Goyard brand years earlier.

Hmmm biggest regret isn't College per se but not doing enough scholarships for it. I don't have much debt, but I know if I tried a little bit harder to apply for scholarships, I could have gone for free.

My biggest regret is skipping community college and going straight to a four-year school. I would have saved more money if I went to community college first, and then transferred to a 4-year university and commuted.

Some regrets I had in my early 20s. - trying to maintain friendships where we’re only friends because of our shared experience in school. Not because they truly cared about me and my person - spending my hard earned money on fast fashion and cheap jewelry - my Chanel Boy bag. I only bought it because I thought I could resell it. But now I’m stuck with a bag that I don’t really like, and that money could be spent on a vintage classic flap I would’ve loved!

I try not to focus on negative things like regrets. But I wish I would have gotten a regular job after high school. Not like right after but like maybe took a semester off then work. I didn't get a job til I was 25. And no I don't come from a wealthy family. I was just too stubborn and stuck on the Law of attraction. However I have manifested some cool things into my life.

I wouldn’t say regrets but would have made different choices I do value education but in certain roles jobs can be learned and to move up doesn’t necessarily equal your degree- wish someone would have told me that. I also wish I wouldn’t have spent so much money on shopping I have more clothes than I truly need and realize I wear the same ones same for makeup etc. shopping in general lol I ranked more debt during the pandemic than I ever have in my life which is crazy.

I’m 50 this year and doing uni part time / working full time. Degree will cost me $36k AUD. I had children young so I’ve been waiting a long time. I’m half way through but honestly question it all the time 😂 I really want to say or show I’ve got a uni degree. It’s a personal goal. I guess I just have to keep going.

My biggest life regret is that I stressed to much during university. It sounds like a cliche but I should have really enjoyed my time more during university and my first job. Putting too much pressure on yourself to succeed it’s not productive. A lot of people say that you should be doing what you are enjoying the most because you put deliberate practice into it and they are right.

I’m studied undergrad and masters in law and I qualified as a lawyer. But I now work in marketing as a manager. Don’t regret Uni and the debt which I have long since paid off. I wouldn’t be where I am now without having gone through that. Things lead you down a path for a reason. Major regrets.. The usual.. wish I spent more time with my grandparents and my dad. But material wise.. Chloe Paddington bag. Fell into the hype (and debt) was the most heavy and impractical bag ever and ended up selling it for next to nothing. -another regret is wasting all the making the same mistakes over and over buying cheap clothes from H&M. I love them for a wear then realise they’re awful. Sad thing is, I prob go back next week and get something!!!

I did my post grad in law ( cpe and lpc) but couldn't find a training contract. Joined the police instead which is what I wanted to do before my post grad study. I was talked out of the police. So I ended up paying thousands for tuition only to end of doing the job I wanted to. Regret in doing it but also regret not reying harder to get a training contract and qualify. Depending on which side of the bed I wake up

I regret buying so much Abercrombie and Fitch clothing and clubbing. It’s so cringe seeing my pictures from college and high school wearing A&F, although the cotton quality was good haha. Just the label thing got tacky and I wish I stuck to my other looks where I would wear patterns and bold designs. Clubbing/partying was just a waste of time. I would always go home lonely, hung over, and feeling broke in my 20s because I spent buying other people drinks too… waste of money.
