For fun, look up southern insults. You might have to tweak the description since you’re not in the US, but they’re pretty hilarious. “You dyed your hair! What color do they call that?” “A new dress? Is that the style now?” “He got his daddy’s looks.” Bless his heart.” 😂

My mama used that look on me. And it worked every time. She also was a genius at disguising a criticism as a compliment, which is a skill more people should learn. Her admonishments were also stellar. As a little child, when I misbehaved, she would warn me that " I'm gonna take you down a buttonhole lower, young lady"! If I got too fidgety, she would say, " Sit still, sugar, you're like a worm in hot ashes"! I miss my mama.

I’m sorry for your loss. My paternal grandma was an Oakie. She would occasionally say to me, “Bless your heart.” It wasn’t until I was much older & she’d been gone 20yrs or so that I heard a pastor on the radio explain it. An older, beloved but respected man who is not related to you is •Mr. John,” but never “John!” I’ve only heard “Ms” in NC and that was reserved for the surname, as in “Ms. Smith.” But even in NC I’ve never heard just plain “Barb!” I’m shocked.
